Lee Min-ho headlines Joseon teen rom-com
by girlfriday
This sounds like a fun project. Lee Min-ho (the younger, aka Rooftop Prince and The Moon That Embraces the Sun’s child-star-turned-young-man Lee Min-ho) has been cast to star in a teen sageuk romantic comedy film called School of Youth. After playing everybody’s younger counterpart in so many historical dramas, it’s nice to see Lee hit his first romantic lead milestone as he turns twenty. (So young, I know.)
Bae Seul-gi (of Night Hospital and Best Love, also in the upcoming Kkang-chulie) has been cast as his leading lady. Lee Min-ho plays a young nobleman’s son, a scholar particularly gifted in math. He’s smart and well-liked, but his interests lie in humble crafts and technologies — things that a nobleman shouldn’t concern himself with — and it raises the ire of his parents, who obviously want him to pursue more stately endeavors.
While he’s clashing with his parents over his future, he meets Bae Seul-gi, who plays a tough, unladylike girl who’s thought to be ugly (by that era’s standards, the story dictates). She’s everything a young refined noblewoman ought not to be, but when she meets the hero she’ll show a bashful side for the first time in her life.
It’s described as a youth romance set in a Joseon-era school, with a comedic bent to the first discovery of feelings between a boy and a girl. There’s also a darker incident (a young woman gets assaulted), but it seems peripheral to the main characters and something the hero will take on in a detective-esque role, as he sets out to find the culprit. Go teen detective scholar, go. It doesn’t sound like the most cohesive story, but I think Joseon teen romance pretty much says it all.
School of Youth starts shooting in October for a release next year.

I like that kid. For some reason, I have flashbacks of Sungkyunkwan Scandal: Must be because of the rebellious characters.
I wonder what channel will air this. Seems like a premise for a short series on cable.

me too, but the other older Lee Min Ho may still not the hot cake in movie industry eventhough he sold well for dramas or doesn't has good connection with movie PD...

This kind of role is well suited for him. I am glad he is venturing into movies because this young man has acting talents. I'm not surprise that he is already headlining a film at his age.

Yay! New project for him. Excited to see it.
Since Yoo Seungho's in the army, his contemporaries like younger Lee Minho and Lee Hyunwoo should go for the drama/movie roles and beef up their already impressively long resumes in his absence. :)

I'd watch it.
Fwiw, I thought that it was this Lee Min-ho that was going to be in Heirs. A 20 year old guy playing a high schooler vs a 26 year old.

FYI, The younger Lee Min Ho debuted first, he was a child actor when the other Lee Min Ho got famous in BOF.. it's not his fault that he has the same name.. and it's not like they we're the only one who has the same case of having the same name in k.ent industry..

But, let's be honest, the amount of talent doesn't always have something to do with who's more famour/popular...
(I haven't this Lee Min Ho in anything yet, so I can't say anything about how good he is, but I'll confess that the older one is my second favourite korean actor :D)

I don't watch dramas/movies because the actors are famous/popular. In fact I avoid them like the plague. While there are plenty of famous/popular actors with very little to no talent, there are also plenty of great veteran and talented actors to follow.

Why should he change his name when he debuted first?! 93 Lee Minho has had a stable and prolific career as a child/teen actor. He's made a name for himself. It's no one's fault another older actor with the same name propelled to crazy stardom from nowhere.
It's a different case unlike then newbie Kim Woobin, whose real name is Kim Hyunjoong and changed it because Kim Hyunjoong of SS501 and BOF is too popular and pretty much the same age range as he is.

Hey when LMH Sr goes off to the army LMH Jr will get full use of the name for two years. He's definitely got the chops and he ain't at all bad on the eyes. Maybe he'll make us forget aaaaall about LMH Sr.
The description got me excited! Love the nerdy nobleman and especially nice to see what I hope is a strong, bold heroine. Yay!

Glad he picked up this project! He's always been playing secondary characters and now, it's his chance to play the main lead. I would prefer to see this as a mini-drama of some sort but I don't see the drama execs giving him a lead role in drama yet.

She kinda disappeared from the K-entertainment scene for a while.
Nice to see her acting career starting to take off (prior to that, she had some success as a singer/dancer and was a staple of variety shows - including the restarting the whole bokgo dance thing).
Can't believe she's only 26, seems like she's been in the industry forever.
