Aw, Uhmforce and puppy love? How can I walk away from that? Here’s a batch of stills for yet another drama premiering this week: KBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday Goguryeo-era sageuk Sword and Flower, starring Kim Ok-bin as a strong-willed princess and Uhm Tae-woong as the bodyguard who secretly loves her, who also happens to be the son of her father’s mortal enemy. It’s great — he’s the tragically star-crossed Romeo AND the silent broody moony second lead, all rolled into one.

I love the stills of him pining secretly while standing behind her. It’s very Lee Jung-jae in Sandglass, just… with more hair. And the bodyguard setup admittedly has me more interested than the straight-up son-of-my-father’s-killer thing, which tends to get a lot of play in dramaland. Of course, with royalty and real history backing up this particular father’s war, there’s more to bolster the actual conflict than just as a means to tear the lovers apart.

And not that this drama was lacking for eye candy or anything, but the entire royal family’s full of lookers. Lee Min-ho (the younger one from Rooftop Prince) plays Kim Ok-bin’s little brother, and Ohn Joo-wan plays her cousin. One has a direct line to the throne and the other has the enemy backing him, but I’ll tell you right now — I’m gonna have a hard time hating a prince that pretty, even if he is the backstabby kind.

Sword and Flower premieres July 3 on KBS.

Yay uhmforce! I love the man, but still on the fence about the wig. Maybe they trying to go for the shock factor, like he's a grubby and then BAM! Makeover. Total hotness. How can the princess resist?

That wig makes him look like a guy who is losing hair. I get it that they r going for the wispy look, but a warrior should have a full head of hair IMO. Whether the wig makes him look hot is a separate matter.

Sigh... this will be the only way I can get my weekly dose of Uhm Taewoong.. considering that I've dropped the-show-that-will-not-be-named :(

You don't need to FF much, Ann.. It's in the beginning, the opening part. Thus you just can stop watching once he mentioned about his cute baby, blushing proudly then get annoyed at KJM untactful-yet-funny comment.. ^^

Does anyone know which site will be subbing this when it comes out? I do not think that viki has the license yet. I really want to see it. I also want to see Goddess of Fire (I think that dramacrazy will be subbing it, but it will be a little while before I can actually watch the first episode).

I don't understand why people talk about Joo Won everywhere and all the time. This post is not about him. I don't want to see comments about him when he is not the main topic. That guy is really overrated. He is not funny on 1N2D (the show wouldn't miss anything without him) and his acting is not really good. I don't understand why and how people like him.

I promised myself I would give the historical shows a rest after finishing Mandate of Heaven, but....I'm so gonna watch this. Not for the uhmforce or the pretty but for Choi Min Soo. That guy has cool like no one else. It'll be my first time seeing him act beside his cameo in Faith.

Choi Min Soo is too badass to pass up. I don't know if he's always been like that but watching him for the first time in warrior baek dong soo I had an ahjussi crush on him.
Sword and Flower is surely going to be gorgeous and epic, can't wait!

Why don't you try Warrior Baek Dong Soo. There are a lots lots of Chi Min Soo there.
Very very good movie. If you like Yoo Seung Ho, he is in there as well.
I love love the fighting scene. Although, will not say much about the female lead.

Warrior Baek Dong Soo is on my list. I have to parcel out my historical dramas especially if they are based on real events. I am that obsessive busy body who has to know everything about a period in history before she can properly enjoy a movie/show/whatever. This often spells heartache since events don't always end happily for the hero. So I space them out. The next historical drama on my list is the Princess' Man and then comes Warrior Baek Dong Soo. Anyway, I'm putting my list aside to (hopefully) enjoy this drama.

Princess's Man gets a huge recommendation for me. It's simply my favorite sageuk, even if it's not the best of its genre.
It had an excellent blend of romance, action, and drama, pretty much the whole package. Had a little bit of everything that was satisfying for all viewers. The ost was compelling and the cinematography was captivating. The acting was all around stellar. It's on my very short list of k-dramas to rewatch.
Anyone that appreciates a good historical sageuk but dying for some much needed emotional beats that make you care for its characters, watch princess's man. I watched it while it was airing and died waiting each week. That's how much it kept me on edge!

His first appearance makes my top 10 favorite list for RM episodes, maybe even top 5. I saw him on RM, then on Strong Heart, but never had the chance to see him act until Faith.

Kim OkBin looks gorgeous. I love the vibrant colors of her hanbok. Uhm TaeWoong is a sexy man. Choi MinSoo is also a sexy man. I'm definitely tuning in for all the pretties. Hopefully the story will be good. :D

Sad truth. This lee min ho has more projects and years in the acting business but is simply not as popular as the other lee min ho, who is recognizable around the whole world.
I'm going to admit, the other popular lee min ho was always more of a hoot to watch, but it's unfair to this lee min ho to say that he needs to be the one to change it just because there another it actor with the same name who debuted later than he did.
On the other hand, i understand that it's not an ideal situation to have two stars with the same name in the acting business cause that causes confusion for people.

I think I saw the trailer at KBSW or is it another drama but UhmForce really looks different. I also can't tell Oh Joo Won in this too. He sure looks different with the saguek wear.

Anyway, I will watch this. I kinda like saguek drama WBDS and not the fusion saguek what so ever

I just finished Mandate of Heaven, which was the only drama I watched while it was still airing.

I wanna wait and read some recaps and get an idea if this new drama is worth checking out.

This really confuses me as I am not a big fan of Uhm Tae Woong and I really don't like the guy playing his dad in this drama (watching that man attempting to drink wine in Warrior Baek Dong-soo and instead just constantly dribbling liquid all over his beard EVERY SINGLE TIME actually nearly killed me...) which makes me so not want to watch this drama at all......

Except that I cannot help but admit that this drama looks and sounds really REALLY good!

Lovelorn bodyguard? I am sooooo into that!
And the poster is actually really beautiful and very romantic / tragic. (Romagic? Tragantic? why isn't there a word for that genre...)

Anyway, I feel I am going to need to check this one out.....

Okay..so far I'm suckered in. I do like moony bodyguards. Generally, I like sajeuk that deals with the non-royals more than the royals so I'll be hoping there'll be a whole lotta guards, wol da chis, and generals for me to be interested in. Royal machinations get tiring after a while, but the suffering of the palace retinue always seems more interesting. Am hoping the princess is fun.
