Name That Drama: Burnt rice, models, and secret laboratories
by javabeans
- Leila asks:
I hope you can help me find this drama…
The girl is married to a man with a traditional Korean family. Her mother-in-law or her husband’s relative asked her to cook because the elders will be coming to their home. But she accidentally overcooked the rice and it was still served to the elders even though it was already black. To save face from the elders, she made up a ridiculous story about eating a burnt rice. Something to do with her grandfather during/after the Korean war.
Thanks!
- fishy2love has a question that isn’t so much Name That Drama, but rather Name The Drama That’s Like That Other Drama:
I’m watching a Hong Kong drama right now and my friend told me that the premise sounds extremely similar to a Korean drama. She said she forgot the name of the drama, when it was released, and who played it, so I have no idea how to look for it. This is the premise/synopsis:
Male lead ‘A’ has a chronic heart disease that only changing his heart could save him from dying. Male lead ‘B’ is A’s doctor. B dies and his heart was given to A. A started to go through a personality change and started to have romantic feelings towards B’s girlfriend. At this time, B’s twin brother comes back for B’s funeral and meets B’s girlfriend for the first time. B’s girlfriend is caught in a love triangle with A and B’s twin brother.
I would greatly appreciate it if you’re able to identify this Korean drama for me! Thank you!
- bee asks:
It’s about this ordinary girl and she’s super pretty but she doesn’t know. She gets recognised and is given a job as a model? There are of course two male leads. The main guy is definitely a model and has always been in love with her. The second one I can’t really remember but I know he was a badass kinda character. She gets with the second guy first, but then they break up. She realises she loves the first guy after all. But in the end he ends up dying.
Its a pretty old drama. I think the title had something to do with “model”? Annnnddd HER HAIR GETS SHORTER AND SHORTER EVERYTIME.
- Fhs has a question that sounds a bit vague but also distinctive:
There was this Korean drama or movie a long time ago that has this girl in some frozen thing, and years later someone unfreezes her and something weird happens. Ah, I can’t remember it in detail because I was so young, but I remember it had lots of dark scenes and laboratory things in it…
- Last but not least, Eve asks:
Hi! So maybe around ten years ago I came across a drama that I really can’t remember much about. I was still a little girl around that time and I wasn’t very interested in dramas (and now I regret it, I feel like kicking away a large chunk of gold I happen to pass in the street). I’m not sure if it was a Korean drama or not, though.
I remember the drama mostly takes place in the seaside. I think it’s about two brothers that was separated when they were kids (I don’t remember the how), but when they meet again as adults they didn’t realize the person next to them was their brother. They fall in love with the same girl, and at some point the older brother realized that the person he disliked because of the love rivalry was his own brother, and he stared the ocean in daze.
I also remember that there is a scene where someone was riding a bicycle through a large tunnel and a girl sat on the back and asked the boy to sing for her. He sang, but stopped midway, and the girl urged him to sing again but he wouldn’t. Later the girl was revealed to work in an office and was eavesdropping her boss’ conversation using a phone, and that’s about all I can remember.
I’m not sure if the drama was one and the same or two different ones. I think they’re different but my memory is too fuzzy to be certain. I hope someone recognizes the drama. Thanks.

Yeah, Sweet 18 for sure. Recognize it anywhere because it's the first K-drama I ever watched. She burns the rice and tells her husband's grandfather that her grandfather used to eat burnt rice all the time to recall the value of food. He knows she's lying, but lets her get away with it.

I've seen Autumn Tale and the two male leads are NOT brothers. The siblings are brother and sister that fall in love. Neither of the male leads even HAVE a brother. I hadn't watched many Korean dramas, but it has to be Winter Sonata where the guys are half brothers maybe? But its not Autumn Tale.

That HK drama is A Change Of Heart, isn't it? When I first read the synopsis, I was WTF?! What a messy love triangle (or square if you count the heart). Sorry cannot help on the kdrama that is similar to it. Anything with twins falling for the same woman is sketchy to me (even if one of them is dead.. seriously? Falling for your dead's brother's gf?)

The factors of falling for the same person actually seem possible to be genetically predisposed. hehehehe
There are stories about long lost twins, getting married to the similar type of person, BUT it is iffy for that same person to fall for BOTH twins.... hmmmm....

It has a high rewatch value, in my opinion, because it's super cute and the OTP has amazing, hilarious, adorable chemistry. (The actors went on to date for years in real life.) Plus the female lead is a juvenile delinquent trying to reform herself, which is refreshing, and her relationship with her super-traditional grandfather-in-law is really heartwarming.

It was definitely adorable. I loved the heroine; she just had a certain spark. Once I managed to get over the (to me) ick factor of an 18-year-old marrying, I loved it! The part where they're trying to consummate their marriage was the sweetest, and not at all for the reasons you might think!

Can i ask about a drama? I think it's korean :
The drama is about a girl who was an obese and because of it, her boyfriend dumped her (?) and i thought i saw that she nearly drove her car into the river. Later on, an obese man also helped her to lose weight. Finally, she succeed and her ex become the one who was obese. The last scene that i saw was her looking at the obese man who helped her, now in a normal state.

I know this is a place for Korean drama, but I am trying to remember the name of a Japanese movie. The premise is that a girl in the present drops her cell phone in a stairwell and it ends up in the hands of a boy 100 years earlier. They have a series of conversations and fall in love. He is a writer. He saves the life of a child. He buys a gift for the girl and has a shop hold on to the gift for 100 years so she can get it. The old lady in the shop turns out to be the little girl he saved.
I remember the memorial plaque by the lake where the boy drown saving the little girl and a visit to the family where his never published manuscript is located. Film ends with book being published.

and i think the not-so-attractive girl throws up on him??

i'm not 100% sure if this is a korean drama, but i think it is. the female lead is a nurse and she has a dream that something gets caught on fire. she tells her mom about it and her mom says that it means she's going to get married soon and tries to convince the female lead to sell the dream to her older sister. the male lead is a doctor, and i think his mother looks down on the female lead for being a nurse and preferred the secondary female lead, who's a doctor. on the side, we have the male lead's younger brother pursuing the female lead's older sister. and that's all i can remember. thanks in advance :)

Hello everyone! (This is my first time commenting on dramabeans, so I hope you'll excuse my mistakes.) The korean drama I'm trying to remember (definitely a 2000s drama): Taking place on a tropical island: A woman in her 30s lives humbly with a guy friend who secretly loves her, in a small, run down room, beds separated by a single curtain. A wealthy man comes to the island and somehow the woman ends up in his large bed and gets bombarded by paparazzi. The man loves the woman, but he's married, and the man and his wife both don't love each other, and they both know it (forced into marriage by parents). Memorable scenes: 1) The woman is eating at a small table with her guy friend, and to get the last banana, the woman jabs the guys hand with a fork.
2) The wealthy man and poor woman end up at a hotel and suddenly the man tells her to get undressed and throws money at her.
Thank you so much! ^_^

I'm not 100% sure but the drama you are talking about sounds like My Lovely Fool aired in 2006. I think I remember the banana scene...the only thing that doesn't match up is that the woman has a kid?????

No 3 I think was Model and was lead by Kim Nam Joo as model turned designer. The 2 male leads were the same actors from All About Eve which I only remember Jang Dong Gun's name and cant put a name to the other guy who was always ended up being the tragic second male lead for dramas during that time... I think that was 10++ years ago. Made me feel old....

I think 2 is Summer Scent. Same premise. It's with Song Seung-heon and Son Ye-jin. I think Song's gf died and Son got the heart.

I don't post very often as much as I should (given my frequent visits here) but I have exhausted all possible resources. The drama I've been looking for is an early 2000 to mid 2000 drama. I'm positive the main actress is Choi Ji Woo, but my memory is fuzzy. What I do remember is it revolved around the designing of shoes. The main actress was friends with the female antagonist. The female antagonist was driving while arguing (I'm not quite sure what but I remember she was clearly distracted) with the main actress and hit the main male actor. The main actress got out of the car and tried to save the main actor, the antagonist female was to shocked to do anything but runaway. The antagonist female was wearing a red/pink dress during this whole hit and run incident.
Later, the male lead turns out to own a shoe designing company and the antagonist female tries to be the main female who saved his life by wearing her red/pink dress while walking by him.
I hope someone could help me find this drama, I clearly remember having a crush on the male actor. I think he might have even been my first celebrity crush.
Anyways, thanks in advance to those who tried!

"It’s about this ordinary girl and she’s super pretty but she doesn’t know. She gets recognised and is given a job as a model? There are of course two male leads. The main guy is definitely a model and has always been in love with her. The second one I can’t really remember but I know he was a badass kinda character. She gets with the second guy first, but then they break up. She realises she loves the first guy after all. But in the end he ends up dying."
Its a pretty old drama. I think the title had something to do with “model”? Annnnddd HER HAIR GETS SHORTER AND SHORTER EVERYTIME.
I think you're of "Model" (SBS 1997). The female lead was Kim Nam-joo, the first guy was Jang Dong Gun, and the second lead was Han Jae-suk.
