Here’s a whole slew of character posters and stills from the set of the new Hong sisters horror-romantic-comedy Master’s Sun. I like the look of the show so far — based on the teaser, it’s not just a supernatural premise, but actually going for a spooky and quirky gothic vibe. If it can manage to be funny on top of that (and I mean side-splitting hilarity, not mildly amusing romp, please) then I think we’re in for a good time.
Leads Gong Hyo-jin and So Ji-sub look like they’re having some fun with these costumes (though So Ji-sub’s all-red suit is dangerously veering into Santa-meets-gigolo territory). You’d think the CEO of a shopping mall kingdom would have better taste in clothes. In some of the stills Gong Hyo-jin looks like she IS the ghost, and not just the girl who sees them. I’m actually hoping that the scary parts of this show will really scare the daylights out of me, which frankly isn’t that hard since I’m a big scaredy cat. I just want some true spine-chilling summer horror.
The second leads are played by Seo In-gook, military-trained bodyguard (to the hero, ha) and Kim Yuri, who plays a model/singer and Gong Hyo-jin’s rival ever since high school. Her character is engaged to marry a soccer player (a nice nod to the starlet/athlete marriages that are all the rage these days), hence the wedding gown photos. But I’m guessing that doesn’t go so well, if she’s going to be the heroine’s rival in life AND love.
Master’s Sun follows current Wednesday-Thursday drama I Hear Your Voice. On the plus side, it’s a ratings hit and a genre match (or as close as a supernatural rom-com horror series is going to find in dramaland), so they couldn’t ask for a better lead-in. On the downside, that leaves the premiere date still up in the air, pending Voice’s possible extension, yet to be finalized.
So that puts the premiere of Master’s Sun in late July or early August, on SBS.

His character in drama always dark, so i really want to see his smile (in drama phantom/ghost, i can saw his naughty smile in last episode and i think that sexy)

me too, actor that i see usualy in dark charracter success act in comedy is kim sung so in "more charming by the day" n joo won in level 7 even many people dislike that drama but he still get recognation in his acting

i really like GHJ's multi-colored dress on the first and last group shot. I wish i would be able to pull that kind of dresses some day.

Exactly.. I can think of atleast four dramas in the recent past with that same exact stereotype... IHYV, YTBLSS, Gold appear!, cheongdamdong alice .. Does having short hair symbolise arrogance or something???

That So Ji-Sub picture with the black background is fooking GLORIOUS!!! Also he kinda does make the "Santa-meets-gigolo" suit look sexeh~ in a weird way.

If you are referring to her dress in the second pic from top, I swear I saw SMR wearing something closely similar to it in one of the recent episodes of You're The Best Lee Soon Shin. Wonder if it's from the same label.

Am I the only one who thinks So Ji-sub here looks like an older Kang Haneul (Monstar)? He's even got the exact same hairdo.....
And Gong Hyo-jin is working those cherries and that gothness, she's got such unusual fashion sense irl (for a Korean actress) that it can't be that difficult for her to do what we dare not.

I can see where you might say that. They do not look alike but in these photos there is an enhanced similarity with the long facial ratio and the cheek bones, and the I Shall Never Find Anything Humorous EVER expressions they both possess. With this guy it never goes away. But we know that Kang Haneul can light up the room with a smile.
KH definitely rocks the who wears it better on the hairstyle.

-Gong Hyo-jin's character poster wardrobe AND the font gives me the Tim Burton feels. XD
-So Ji-seop like that makes me miss Yoo Seung-ho.
-Gong Hyo-jin and rival's character outline = "The Greatest Love" much???
-Just a clarification, Han Hye-jin is NOT a starlet and Kim Min-ji is an SBS announcer.

Admittedly, I giggled at the cherries headdress...and the crosses? Well, I guess because it may be taking on a goth vibe.
I'll be tuning in to see how this comes together. I have only ever seen So Ji-Sub in serious roles and I love when actors stretch and grow.

He actually did some light/comedic roles before MISA (his character in Glass Slippers was my first drama crush), so I'm looking forward to this one, just because I miss seeing him in a lighter roles. I hope he still has it!

i like glass slippers too but i found that drama late in Indonesian TV , honestly i don't really remember his charracter yes it's not dark charracter but i think not really comedic too

LOL, me too! I watched it on Trans TV (I think)! And it was like 9 years ago or something. His character is not as comedic as Dok Ko-jin, per se, but he is the comic relief in that drama, at least in the first half, and he was adorable there :)

I seriously hope this drama will erase last year's awful experience with the drama-that-shall-not-be-named.
The teaser and stills look quirky/spooky enough. I also want it to be pee-my-pants funny. I need it to be like that. The Sisters have pulled that humor before, so hopefully, they will be able to learn from last year's mistake.
So... Please be good, Show. Please make me love the Hong Sisters again. Please show me the other side of So Ji Sub. Please be good enough to be my dramacrack of the summer. Please.

SBS has got really huge(popular) projects lined up one after the other it's going to be a crazy summer.
I hear your voice, master's sun, heirs, then man from another star. Looks like SBS will be dominating the wed-thurs timeslot this whole summer going into fall. Of course, high ratings are never guaranteed.

I love Gong Hyo-jin's dresses in those first two shots, especially the second one.
I can't believe the Hong sisters are pulling me back in after last year, but there's no way I can resist. If they burn me again, though, then we are DONE FOREVER. I'm ready to be melodramatic about this, and they won't like me when I'm melodramatic. *glowers*
But omg, I can't believe there's still no final decision about Voice's extension. A 16-ep run is set to finish NEXT WEEK. How could an extension be anything but filler crap to run out the clock, this late in the game? :(

Well, from what I've seen or read, he was a bit chubby when he won Superstar K. And when he finally appeared in last year's "Reply 1997", he was already a bit buff. I think he's working out more since he's gonna be in that swimming movie with Lee Jong-seok.

I love the raspberry suit. We all know that CEOs like to show off but have an awful taste when it comes to clothes (tracksuits anyone?). It's also great to establish the contrast with the GHJ's character who probably will want to be unnoticed at first. I bet she'll get flamboyant at the end (that dress!).

As fun as these photos are, we still really don't know how this drama is really going to look when we watch it. The photos vibes and even the teasers we've seen are really sort of campy but the actually scenes seem fairly normal drama looking. That would probably work well, it's normal life with this underlying paranormal world thing going on versus going too campy or too horror or too melo/gothic.
That red pimp suit on Mr. Grim, oh my, all he needs is a hat and a cane.
Looking forward to GHJ and SIG in a drama again. I know he was in Rascal Sons, but I've not watched it, Too many episodes for me.

I'm hoping for a Haunted House ride with some dark humor. The Hong Sisters have been trying towards the dark humor before. If they bring in a house of mirrors with the whole thing, I'd like that too.
Whether it's fast humor sorta Mel Brooks style, or slow like The Heathers, I don't mind. Just bring in the funny.

I usually skip or try to not watch horror movie or drama since I live alone and plus im a scaredy cat..but so ji sub? Ermm.... I'm in the middle... I'm scared? Yes! But so ji sub?? Yes!!! I don't know.. I try to watch 1st ep first then I'll decide..if too scared so please dramabeans summarize the drama per episode like you always did (thanx for that)... and I will just read not wacth the drama..huhu..

I think I'll watch this. Haven't followed a drama in a long time, but this spiked up my curiosity. I do think that will be a good drama to watch for the summer. Some scifi stuff some comedy a batch of good actors. sounds like some good ingredients to a refreshing summer recipe.

I think I'mthe only one here who can't get connected with the lead actress :(
I gave her two chances on Pasta and Greatest Love, but as much as I pushed myself to finish the whole series, I couldn't get myself to like her.
Too bad, because I'm really curious of SJS doing a romcom.
