High Kick PD courts Ha Yeon-soo, Lee Soon-jae for new sitcom on tvN
by girlfriday
So there’s all this talk of a High Kick 4 floating around, but the title seems to be misleading: PD Kim Byung-wook of the hit sitcom franchise High Kick is launching a new series for tvN, and though it’s going to be a family sitcom in the same vein as the first three seasons of High Kick, it’ll be a new franchise altogether. That makes a lot more sense than High Kick suddenly going to cable, which I’m sure MBC would have a conniption about.
The reason it’s being called High Kick 4 is probably also to do with the PD courting Lee Soon-jae (Grandpas Over Flowers) to star. He was the grandpa in both 2006’s Unstoppable High Kick and 2009’s High Kick Through the Roof. He’s particularly beloved for his Unstoppable High Kick character, a grandpa who had an embarrassing affinity for internet porn that earned him the nickname Yadong [porno] Soon-jae.
This new series is courting both Lee Soon-jae and Monstar’s rookie actress Ha Yeon-soo, who has stated publicly that she’d love to join the sitcom. They’re still both “favorably considering,” so deals aren’t final, but it’d be great for her to do — not only because I like her in Monstar, but because the High Kick franchise is a famous launching pad for young talent (Jung Il-woo, Kim Bum, Park Min-young, Yoon Shi-yoon, Shin Se-kyung, Lee Jong-seok; the list goes on).
I’m a little sad that it’s not a High Kick 4, but I’m sure it’ll be a cute family sitcom with a lot of heart, no matter the new franchise. At least I hope so; that’s really the main reason that I bother to watch High Kick when I don’t normally do daily sitcoms — there’s a heart to them that sticks with you, even when you’ve forgotten all the hijinks. Except for Yadong Soon-jae. Hard to forget that.
The new sitcom, whatever the title, is headed to tvN in September.

oh, this could be awesome if they took the role - I hope Ha Yeon-soo will get to stretch her comedic skills a bit, I'm really enjoying her in Monstar and would much rather see her in a good role in a sitcom than shunted to second/third lead in a major network drama a la Jung Eun-ji (who was really cute with Bummie in TWTWB but had too little to do)

Definitely see some potential in ha yeon soo who gives se-yi the oddity and quirkiness about her character. For a rookie she's doing alright, not groundbreaking but just enough that i find her likeable.
I think this would be great for her to improve on her acting.
Like pogo said, i'd also much rather see her on a sit-com than taking up second leads on prime time before she's actually ready.
High Kick always manages to help give aspiring actors/actresses that little push, so this would definitely be a good choice for her.

I like her in Monstar, very much, don't think anyone can nail Min Seyi, the sheep girl, the Korean Heidi, like she does. It's a plus that she has that hippie look.
I consider her a legitimate actress, way better than a lot of them in the market. Looking forward to see more of her work...

Indeed, this would be awesome. I didn't watch the 2nd High Kick, but I love the first one so much ('cause there begins my my endless love for Jung Il-woo :D ). This would be a great opportunity for Ha Yeon Soo to learn and to grow as an actress. I like her so much as Se Yi in Monstar, so I'll definitely look forward to seeing her in High Kick 4 :)

This sounds like a fun watch and a great opportunity for our resident rookie actress from Monstar to really work on long term on-screen character development. She's a lovely girl and is a definite scene stealer - it's hard to take your eyes off of her.
I just hope that this will be picked up by either Viki or DF - access to Kdramas w/subs is becoming mighty limited these days!

To be honest, this got me excited! I miss watching a daily sitcom with a lot of heart. I enjoyed watching all three High Kick series, although the second one left a bad taste in my mouth. But still, yeay!
Seconding Cynthia's comment, I hope this will get picked up by any of the subbing teams. I've been wanting to watch I Live in Cheongdam Dong for a while, but couldn't find the subbed version :(

Is this the same as Cheongdam Alice?
If so, dramaholics.net has it.

Oh no, it's different. This one is a sitcom from JTBC, but as far as I know it hasn't been picked up by any subbing team.

I just began watching the High Kick series starting from the first episode. I have to admit that I really like it! I've seen other sitcoms before but I never liked them, but for some reason I really like these. :D

ooo looking forward to this because I found the high kick series to be heartwarming and had really cute moments at times even if it did make me mad at times. Plus, I'm loving Se Yi ahem I mean Ha Yeon Soo. She reminds me a little of Kim Ji Won ;D

In times of personality like both can sing, play the guitar, and act natural with quirkiness. They don't look similar though as both have their own charms and beauty C:

Well, I personally did not watch all the episodes of Unstoppable High Kick or High Kick 3 but I gotta say, I love the young actors (and some actresses) that grew out of the show. The end up being my fave actors to date (no pun intended).

I like Min Se-Yi.. Plus its tvN so definitely a yes... Only complaint is let that PD nim just stick all the episodes except the last few... We all know our high kick 1 and 2 endings...
