Dramabeans Podcast #17, Part 1
by javabeans
You guys sure asked a ton of questions when we opened up our podcast request line, and we did our darnedest to get through as many as we could. (If by darnedest we mean got drunk and rambled, which, obviously, we do.) It’s a two-parter this time around, so stay tuned for the wrap-up in a few days!
(Apologies for the music in one or two places where I didn’t lower the volume enough. It’s not too terrible but in retrospect, it should have been lowered more. I’ll be paying closer attention to the levels in the next one.)
Podcast #17, Part 1
Running time: 61:05
The questions we address:
- Why are you so mysterious?
- Do the people in your real life know about your online identities? Has fame changed the way they treat you?
- Why did you start making recaps, of all things? Why recaps and not just commentary?
- What colleges did you graduate from? (8:10)
- What are common things javabeans and girlfriday disagree about when it comes to their tastes in dramas?
- What are your favorite/ideal actor types? Character types? (10:38)
- How accurate are the drama depictions of Korean culture? (20:20)
- What are your favorite actors in terms of acting ability? (23:37)
- And actresses? (28:13)
- How do you maintain your enthusiasm for the subject matter? (31:44)
- How hot is Lee Sang-woo? (34:08)
- What was the first time you guys met face to face?
- Will you have a meetup in LA?
- Will you have a meetup outside the U.S., say the Philippines?
- On a tropical island: Pick your favorite drama hunk, two dramas, favorite food, and an object. (36:00)
- What exactly is the drama trifecta of having good acting, directing, and writing? (40:20)
- Whatever happened to Samsooki and would you consider having a male writer on staff?
- What dramas have foreigners as significant characters? (48:54)
- How much time does it take you to do these recaps? What’s your schedule like?
- Do you think Korea’s really experiencing a golden age, or is this just a product of the workaholic mentality?
- What do you think of the crackdown on all the streaming and downloading websites? (52:08)
- Where do you see the future of this blog going? (56:36)
- Why is there a lack of rom-coms these days in dramaland? Why don’t we have hugely popular crack dramas like You’re Beautiful, Boys Before Flowers, etc?
- How many hits does Dramabeans get?

“Oh My Goddess” by Sung Shi-kyung
“Cappuccino, Mocha & Cafe Latte” from the My Sweet Seoul OST

This is the first podcast that compelled me to listen; thanks for making it so interesting!
I never had a favorite actor until I watched Lee Je-Hoon in Bleak Night. He's so good. I love him.
Regarding acting and delivery, I've always wondered about Moon Chae-Won's enunciation. I can only understand basic words in Korean, but her delivery never sounded clear to me, but a native speaker will know better than me. Maybe it's her pitch?

Hi guys,
I am a drama fan and maybe even more a Dramabeans fan. I am a French in Asia since a long time and although I can speak Mandarin and have started Korean, when you speak about some of your favorite actors I need to see their names written. Could you, please, go back to the last podcast where you are speaking about your favorite actors and mentioned their names? I know it is extra work so I won't be disappointed if I don't see them. Anyway thanks a lot, you are great and you're making my days.

Thank you for the podcast. I was saving it for a quiet eveing. You ladies were hysterical. I can't comment much because you covered too many topics. However I just loved listening to your answers.
Oh yes, Sung Shi Kyung? That was totally gushing. It's so funny seeing you guys DB :-)
But who am I to comment, I don't even know how come I am so into his singing and even have 7 of his CDs. And this is all before his 1N2D stint. His voice is to die for and he can cook. But I am sure I read somewhere he likes a woman who can drink. Not that I know you but since you guys drink during your podcast? Plus he's cerebral and you're intellectual. Match made in heaven. He'll serenade you while you're having a drink. And even makes you snacks. Plus he is clean and dependable and has such tall broad shoulders.
:-) :-) Are you sure you can't date him?

Yeah! Love you ladies & hearing your thoughts to our FAQs (plus proper pronunciation of Korean names), thank you!! Got to say the alpha-beta male square of LMH/JIW and KWB/LJS had me laughing like a maniac...mind blown :D And I'm with you Girlfriday, I don't care how many times I see it, I'm a sucker for a Noona romance ;)

I personally am very pissed with the situation in dramas now. Because I would pay for something, or watch some commercials, but I can't. I loved wiki and worked for it, I subbed a lot of things hoping to raise interest in my country, but apparently no one in Europe is interested in dramas so there aren't good streaming sites anymore, and no legal sites either for me. That is very sad :(

The success and strength of this site is the community, which could not be possible without your humor and personalities shining through your written posts.
