Name That Drama: Choco pies, buddy cops, and bad attitudes

Time for another edition of Name That Drama! If you’ve got a burning K-drama question that’s been bugging you, email us to get featured in the next round.

  1. Oshumbady2luv asks:

Hi, hope you guys can help me out with this drama although it’s pretty vague. I only remember one scene. It’s probably a ’90s drama. Just curious how it turned out.

This girl has a leg problem and she uses a cane to walk. She has a pretty bad attitude, I think because of her situation. She puts up legs on a coffee table using the cane. She also tried to commit suicide/hurt herself and lost blood. The guy (I’m presuming the lead actor or second lead) donates blood to her. She is ungrateful as she doesn’t want the blood and tries to hurt herself again. Um yeah, that’s it.

  2. Bloom’s question is about a Korean movie:

Hello! I need a little help with identifying this K-movie.

I can’t really remember many details but I know that it is a romance movie about two cops (the female cop was a much tougher cop compared to the male) who fell in love with each other and the movie ended with the the male cop dead (I think he was shot/stabbed by the thief they were chasing).

I know the details I have given are really really vague but I really hope you have the answer! Thanks!

  3. Reina’s question is also about a movie:

There was a Korean movie that was centered around the relationship between a grandmother and a grandson. I remember a specific scene where they were on a bus and he saw another boy eat a choco pie, and he really wanted one and he kind of threw a tantrum about it. So the granny who was dirt poor finally gave in and bought him a choco pie even though she clearly needed that money for something really essential. And then at some point later in the movie I think the boy realized the importance of that. There was a bunch of crying involved lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I remember I watched this movie at least 6 years ago, maybe even 10 years ago.

  4. Christy asks:

Hi! This is probably going to be a really random question, but I’m having a really hard time remembering the name of a drama! I’m trying to show my friend the drama but I totally am blanking on which show it is. One of the first scenes was a guy who dressed up as the main guy from Winter Sonata and took pictures with a tour group? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you so much!

About Bloom's movie (#2) could it be WInstruck? I don't remember if the guy was a cop, but Jeon Ji Hyun's character definitely was.

Yes she was a cop. A hot tempered one at that, and he was a school teacher. He was very shy, he always showed up at her arrest because he was worried about her, and he got accidentally shot during one of her raids. The actor was jang hyuk.

Damn I remember when that movie came out, there was not one single person I knew that didn't cry watching it. Even thinking about it now makes my heart twist painfully. Superb acting tbh.

i was thinking that too. I love "The Way Home", and I cried buckets in that movie. I remember giving away copies of it to my friends so that they can watch it too. What really stuck to my head is the Fried Chicken he ( YSH) requested, but ended up with boiled chicken, since the grandma can't understand the English "Fried Chicken", she just know that it is a chicken coz YSH acted it up.

I heard that the grandma who portrayed the role is a real grandma in said province and has no acting prowess before that movie. I think it was her first and last.

Yes, it is in this movie that I first saw how talented YSH is. Looking forward to his new image when he comes out of the army =)

Yes for me too it's the chicken fried scene that stayed with me because of the way he pronounced it and also because he throw a big temper tautrum because of that but it's mostly because I liked how he pronouced chicken fried.

Reina, this is one of my FAVORITE ALL-TIME Korean movies, EVER! (Besides, My Sassy Girl and Windstruck, lol)

This movie was so touching and it made me cry so much to see how the grandma lives and how ungrateful her daughter was and leaving her son to her VERY elderly mother to look after. I understood the daughter's need for work and money, but when her mother is that old and lonely, you need to take care of her. I always wonder about the actress who played the grandma and. I have a feeling she might be in Heaven now since she was pretty old when they filmed this, but I still think about her.

Anyway, that's just some of my rambling. But, I KNEW right away what movie you were asking about.

Here is what I got on wiki.com for you and it starred Yoo Seung-ho when he was very young:

I remembered that movie getting featured in 1N2D Season 1 as their theme of the trip. They visited three sets of grandparents and Ji-won ended up tricking Ho-dong with their wish ticket. I miss those boys. But I digress... The movie is definitely The Way Home.

I only know the name of Reina's movie. It's called 'the way home'.This boy's mum leaves him in the care of his mute grandmother in a remote village to look for work and he hates his stay. He demands chocopie and Kfc chicken from her. She touches her chest to say she is sorry and only half way down the track he understands what it means and then starts to love and care for her. It's one of my all time favourite Korean movies and it made me love my grandparents even more.

Yesss, The Way Home and there is an article about that here in Dramabeans, that's why I bought the DVD. I love this movie and the grandmother is not an actress. In the end the boy loved his grandmother so much that he taught her how to send him a message if she gets sick so that he could come to her. I love this movie and its little Yoo Seung Ho, the best.

Is #4 Christy's perhaps "Finding Mr. Destiny"/"Finding Kim Jong-wook"? It's not a drama but a Korean movie, and one of the beginning scenes shows Gong Yoo's character dressed up as Yon-sama (dude from Winter Sonata) taking pictures with a group of Japanese tourists.

In Bloom's question the answer is Wind struck, but the guy is not a cop, only the girl and he died because he was accidentally shoot in a shooting rampage.

In Reina’s question the answer is Way back home and the young boy is Yoon seung ho who is 10 years old at that time.

In Christy's question the answer is Finding Mr. Destiny and the leading man is Goong Yoo, he is well known in the character of Arthur in Coffee Prince.

If I remember well it was at the beginning of the movie, when he was in a travel company before starting his own company or being fired, I don't remember. In that company, he was answering the phone and telling poeple that they should be cautious of danger when they travel so he got assigned to do travel tours instead of selling travel over the phone because he was a terrible seller. So then while he was on a travel tour he was taking pictures with Japanese tourists... and it's where comes the winter sonata thing.

I don't know if I am 100% accurate since I saw it a long time ago...

Whenever I see him, no matter what he's in, I always refer to him as Choco Pie Grandfather, and he will forever be known as that. He was also good in 'Ruler of Your Own World'. Lot of good stars in that one, too. Gong Hyo Jin (the mother of the girl in 'Thank You') is in that one, too. She plays kind of a cool *tough* girl in that, which is completely different from her 'Thank You' role. I highly recommend it.

I am always amazed that the db bunch comes up with the answers too. It was an entertaining break while waiting for a gazillion new raw episodes to be subbed today!

#3 The Way Home with baby Yoo Seung Ho. I cried my eyes out watching that movie. It made me so mad how inconsiderate he was towards his grandmother at first, so thank goodness he learned to appreciate her by the end. That last scene where he taught her to send him letters -- gawd, makes me want to cry just thinking about it. T_T
