JTBC’s Her Legend taps Choi Jung-won as leading lady
by javabeans
And now JTBC’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama Her Legend has a heroine, after having just cast Kim Jung-hoon to play the leading man.
All we’d been told earlier was that this drama would feature two women with “swapped” fates and a chaebol prince who has everything (Kim being that prince). Now we have the description of the main female character as a woman who came from nothing—no money, no grand education, no big family ties—who nevertheless has a bright and plucky personality despite her difficult circumstances. The drama will follow her success story in the luxury handbag world, where she makes a name for herself on nothing more than her talent. So… sort of like Cinderella Man and Ad Genius and Fashion King and Me Too, Flower?
So on one hand, a big fat meh. Another Candy and Prince Charming romance, set in the world of fashion? I don’t care if it’s JTBC, this is a setup that has been done to death (and then beat with a stick even in death, because surely that dead horse has more to give).
On the other hand, as a small sliver of consolation, at least Choi Jung-won is cute in this type of role. She’s the kind of actress who can bore me to sleep in plodding dramatic roles, and in fact I’d sort of written her off as just another pretty face until Wish Upon a Star came along and she was bright and bubbly and pretty adorable as the hard-working big-sister-turned-mother-of-five.
As another upside, the drama is directed by PD Lee Seung-ryul, whose credits include the seminal 1992 trendy drama Jealousy, which basically MADE the Korean rom-com drama genre we know today. A catch: His last drama was in 2005; has his style kept up with the times? Producing is Logos Film, which produced KBS’s hit weekender You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly.
Her Legend follows Heartless City and premieres in July.

Ah but I really can't stand Kim Jung Hoon's acting! He's always so robotic/emotionless. He was boring in Witch Yoo Hee, Dummy Mommy, and I Need Romance. He is sooo blah.

This. I would go so far as to call her as one of the prettiest actresses in the industry.
Groan @ the plot description.

I like Choi Jung Won. I think she is plucky & cute but there is also a cool side to her too. Like people who are good at what they do/ intelligent & capable but are at the same time kind of ditzy. Lol, I like those people--nice to be around.
I like this kind of story, actually. I guess it's because I haven't watched every drama dealing with it, so I'm not bored yet. I think as long as there are smart characters or something in the dialogue I like & a cute romance it's worth a watch.

A big fat meh......they just change the bakground: fashion industry, shipping industry, cosmetics industry, jewelry making and now hand bags!!
On a side note...PD stands for producer director or something else?? Because producers are different..so why the director is also called producer??

Kim Jung Hoon grew on me with I Need Romance. Choi Jung Won I still link back to Seven Chil Princesses - she managed to make a flighty character quite winning, with a proper 'redemption' arc (definitely not thinking of how soon shin is doing the direct opposite .........). So for them I guess I'll be dropping in to watch it, even though this plot is my most hated of drama tropes.

Yeah Jealousy! That is my first drama and where my drama addiction started! I like Choi Jung Won and though I don't think she is terrific actress, she sure is pretty. And she reminds me of the drama 'Infamous 7 princesses' where there was this character who was opposite duplicate of her - named 'AnGongJu/no princess' -who cracked me up.

I feel like Kim Jung Hoon really needs to play an intense, villainous role - like a mad serial killer or something! He's cute and it does seem like he tries, but he's ever so bland.
I really like Choi Jung Won - not the strongest of actresses, but I really liked her in Wish Upon a Star.
Sadly, I'm not feeling the story here at all, even though it is a JTBC drama. Besides the cliche character types, it's another "one man/woman's journey to success in X industry despite disadvantages" story that I'm not into.
