Ji Jin-hee considers new drama
by girlfriday
Another new show to add to that ever-growing list: SBS’s fall Monday-Tuesday drama looks like it might be A Warm Word, a drama full of mystery and scandal set among the lives of average couples. It’s evoking Desperate Housewives as a comparison (on purpose?) and is courting Ji Jin-hee (The Great Seer) to star. And as an adulterous husband, no less. Boo, I like him as the dorky guy who can’t get a date, even if he’s way too handsome for that.
The new melo? comedy? (What DO you call Desperate Housewives?) will be brought to you by writer Ha Myung-hee of JTBC’s Can We Get Married, and PD Choi Young-hoon of Five Fingers. It’s being described as the “divorce version” of Can We Get Married, which doesn’t sound nearly as pleasant, but should be juicy and rife with scandalous potential.
It’ll be a drama about families (not to be confused with “family drama”) and a “dangerous love between a man and a woman.” If he signs on, Ji Jin-hee will headline as a man who outwardly seems to have the perfect life — happy family, success, and the perfect marriage. But one day he meets another woman and has a mid-life crisis and an affair. The drama will purportedly draw him in a sympathetic light, which is an uphill battle if I’ve ever heard of one.
A Warm Word is angling for a September broadcast following Empire of Gold on SBS.

"Dorky guy who can't get a date." haha
I thought you were referring to He Who Can't Get Married :) That was a low key drama I really liked. I loved the laid back tone. Neurosis at its comedic best!
This drama though sounds weird. A Warm Word does not sound like a title to a drama about mystery and scandal, but like the title of a family drama...I don't want Ji Jin Hee to play a ("sympathetic") cheater, ugh :( Uphill battle? More like upcliff war.

In "He Who Can’t Get Married", JJH's character had women fawning over him (why not? he was handsome and a successful architect) but he had zero interest in personal relationships of any kind due to his eccentricities - which is something much more believable for a man of JJH's looks than a “Dorky guy who can’t get a date.”
Totally agree that HWCGM was a enjoyable, easy going romcom with very solid writing and a great cast (one of my favorites, in fact as romcoms go).
Just to bad that it flew under the radar while crappily written/acted romcoms of late have gotten much more buzz/ratings.

I thought "He Who Cannot Marry" was one of the most delightful dramas I've seen, and had some of the best LOL moments (proctology exam!) ever. He was so perfect in that role, and I loved the lady doctor who could see right through it all.

The writer of Can We Get Married = I'm in even if the premise sounds strangely similar to She IS WOW... "Dramas about families" and scandals are getting trendy. My only fear is: It's on SBS, which means tamed drama.

Love this guy in straight drama roles, but I am not a fan of how he attempts comedy. I think he would be great in this role, and let's hope the subject matter is not as repulsive as it first sounds. Mystisith's reference to She is Wow! got me thinking his character could gain our sympathies, or at least our understanding. Not making excuses, but disparate people do desperate things. And hey, that's drama.

While not really a comedic role in the normal sense, JJH did a really good job as he eccentric in the romcom “He Who Can’t Get Married."

i feel theres too much chracter-relationships based stuff as opposed to plot oriented these days.
a 20 episodes format gives you such nice opportunities to have an "epic" plot from start to finish, there should be more of that kind of thing.

Yay Ji Jin-hee <3. Only reason why I was able to finish watching that mess called Great Seer was because of him.
I think his wife will have the last word on this lol. Its a different role for him so it might be a good thing.

The Great Seer - I hung in there because of him, also.
I still think they need to make a spin-off of that sageuk where all he does is play drinking games with the monk. Most entertaining aspect of that drama!

SBS must be gunning for some seriously low ratings. I'd imagine the specter of an adulterous husband would hit a little too close to home for the target demographic.

Why can't we all get better looking with age? What is his secret?
Anyway, I know that some people might immediately not want to watch this because of the plot. However, A Wife's Credentials was excellent, and they proved that marriage (and thus adultery) is much more complicated than most dramas care to portray. SOme of the people having affiars needed to be smacked, and others . . . I had great sympathy and hope for. My concern is that this is on a major broadcast network and won't be allowed to mine the depths of character development to make any of this work.

Loooooveedd him in Dong Yi and Jewel, but haven't managed to finish He Who Can't or the other recent one..
And I don't know if I can take a cheating husband :/ too bad. He's mighty fine!! I'll give it a try. As long as they don't make him an asshole a la ohlala couple, I could probably stomach it long enough to feel sympathy for him.

I always had issues with adultery whether reel or real. Then I watched Crazy Love. The wife not only makes me justify adultery but her own murder too. Anyway, so I might check this one out. Unless they suddenly change the premises like When A Man Loves. I mean the original synopsis stated that he was married then cheating on his wife with that block of wood female lead, but that never happened. They made her the most hated one instead lol

Agreed. I don't care how desperate you are or how terrible your married life, just get a divorce/mutually separate first before you go off with other men/women.
I like Ji Jin Hee, but I don't think I can watch this drama just for him.

Sometimes it is because you're accused of it but not that you are in one. It all depends on the details of the script. Both parties in the wife's credential did leave their spouses first before they commence their relationship but the separation may not be mutual or on friendly terms. You can be accused of adultery by just sitting with an opposite sex. It depends on how crazy the other spouse is.

i LOVED the writing and almost everything about can we get married even as it drove me nuts. it was well written and pretty believable in its characterisation even if dramatised.
am looking forward to another slice of real life drama from this writer!

I know the title is Korean and all, but Warm Word, if you say it out loud comes out Worm Word, and that is funny.
So much gets lost in translation when it comes to titles.
Still scratching my head over The Green Scalpel as it doesn't sound very sanitary.

Well it sounds interesting, but I can never feel sympathetic for a cheating husband. That's basically what scandal is all about, and I can't stand that pairing.

Such a script is not JJH. I hope he passes it up. Even in that mess in which he plays a pilot was a debacle. I couldn't get over of how seriously bad his female co-star was, and then I think after Epi 1, they fell asleep at the wheel hoping that the script would drive itself. His talents were soo wasted on that waste of celluloid time.
Nope, not this. He's got too many good ones to settle for the substandard. Someone fire his agent or whoever is feeding him scripts. Find another superb sageuk script, big screen or telly, and get him in front of the camera. He's too classically handsome to be only appreciated by one woman!! LOL!
