Jang Hyuk and Su Ae battle deadly virus

Okay, now this is my worst nightmare. But deadly contagious viruses do make good movie fodder, don’t they? Here’s the first teaser for this summer’s epidemic disaster movie The Flu, starring Jang Hyuk (IRIS 2) and Su Ae (Queen of Ambition). I really wish they’d come up with a cooler title, ’cause this one conjures up images of being in bed with a thermometer in my mouth and an ice pack on my head, but title aside, the images are pretty gripping.
The film is the latest project from director Kim Sung-soo, who hasn’t done a new movie since 2004’s Back. He’s still most famous for his 1997 teen angst movie Beat, which was everyone’s favorite movie for like a decade, and made Jung Woo-sung an overnight sensation.
Flu is about a deadly strain of H5N1 (avian influenza, aka bird flu) which spreads throughout the urban population, at an outbreak rate of 2000 new cases each hour, and death occurring within 36 hours of infection. As the virus spreads, those who are infected get quarantined in an abandoned city, and the movie will be about the struggle to survive within those walls.
Jang Hyuk stars as a firefighter, and Su Ae plays a doctor racing to find a cure. And if they’re both inside that deserted city, it can only mean they’re both infected, right? The teaser looks promising, you know, in a frightening mass terror way. Why are viruses all the rage in dramaland and Chungmuro lately? *resists urge to make bad contagion joke*
The Flu hits theaters in August.

N7N9 is the latest birdie spreading from China (PRC) just across the water from S. Korea. It would concern Koreans but not Americans.
Also, from Middle East, spreading into Europe and India is the CoronaVirus, a SARS like virus SARS2?

There is a new and deadly threat making its round in Saudi Arabia. It is the Mers, or the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus and what makes this virus an ominous threat is that the majority of those who had contracted the disease died from it.

I was wondering the exact question! Maybe durin the outbreak people started dying during their jobs, like while driving and such, which caused accidents???

Wait, now that I've rewatched the trailer it seems like the non-infected people get violent as the place the infected in quarantine.
This reminds me of the novel "Blindness" by Saramago in that everything hits the fan as the pandemic spreads.

Exactly what I was going to say! I loved the book, and though the movie didn't execute it perfectly, it was still worth watching to see the concept played out visually.

Liking the trailer and will watch it once it becomes available on netflix or DVD whichever is first. It does seems similar to Outbreak and its Ebola epidemic story w/ early death and quarantine. But I love Su Ae.
Recently though I have been reading rumors that Su Ae is bitchy, hard to get along with and a total diva on the film/drama sets. Not that it effects me or I really care (but I really really like her especially as an actress). But the rumors mentioned that she has been that way for a while. Can anyone here clarify the rumors a bit to their best ability?

I know, those rumors surprised me because I had never heard anything about her offscreen life/personality (and personally, as long as she's talented and gets her job done I don't really care...there's plenty of Hollywood actors I enjoy whose offscreen personalities are not to my taste).
But I can't tell whether this reputed bitchiness and lack of professionalism is an open secret/common knowledge within the industry or based on just a couple of dubious secondhand accounts netizens heard, latched onto and automatically accepted as fact (as they are wont to do, especially when it comes to female actresses/idols).
I'd like to be enlightened about this as well.

Hope those rumors aren't true, tho, ultimately, it doesn't matter since I generally like Su Ae's acting (and she makes for a pretty doc here - messy hair and all).
Also like Jang Hyuk but he does have a tendency to overact.

I read on netizenbuzz that she was dating Jang Dong Gun who was in the same agency with her and she cheated on him with the company president in order to get special treatment.
And last year there was a rumor about her daitng CEO Jung Tae Won.

I love her too! She kind of was the best character in Queen of Ambition xD I guess I will give the movie a chance just because she's in it^^

Nooooooo...... not JH too! It wasn't enough to put flower boys in Virus (I am embarrassed to admit thaIt I actually watched 7 eps but when they killed off fb, did they really think there was chance in hell that anyone would continue watching?) JH said he really wants to break into Hollywood (he keeps up a super hot bod and practices his English which is just ok-ish, not great, from the little I've heard), but I don't think The Flu is going to give him any great breaks into that world. Although I will admit I have a weakness for firemen in action~

It looks great except that it seems like the movie Deranged with the flu instead.
I don't really know if I am excited for this lol. I have tons of korean movies which I'm dying waiting to watch with the subs.
Really, the story sounds so unappealing --'
But I do love Jang Hyuk and it makes me laugh that he worked for Iris 2 and Soo Ae worked on Athena which was some kind of sequel/remake/new version of Iris 1 but anyway, we will see.

Not to impressive title aside... I guess that fear is real with the world struggling to recover from SARS a decade ago and with all this strain of bird flu these days...
Why is there always a broody hero and a female doctor in these movies... hmmm...
And can we talk about Contagion... weirdest thing was after a long while it premiered and my friend caught it on dvd when he was working in HK and he is like... "I am in HK now..." and started getting worried...coz in the movie things start from HK. and it just strikes me as very surreal... but also me wanting tell him, dun be a worrywort its ok!
I guess that's movies... they strike the fear in you!

Hmmm... The story kind of reminds me of Contagion (I only remember Marion Cotillard in it, don't ask me why)... And it wasn't a great movie. Great cast, bleh movie. Flu just looks the same.

Reminds me of Contagion as well. I wonder if that's the film that sparked this recent infectious epidemic trend (see: Deranged, The Virus & The End of the World).
It wasn't great but it did the job for me. I like how it was more subdued and less sensationalistic than what you'd expect from a Hollywood film about a highly contagious virus, but some parts of it seemed cheesy (the affair aspect) and the characters weren't fleshed out enough to really engage with them.
Plus, the Marion Cotillard storyline just went nowhere - it's like they had no idea what to do with her.
However, I was happy to see Jennifer Ehle and Kate Winslet. Ehle needs to do more work.

Actually I love the title. So many people never take the flu seriously. Proof is in the number of deaths every year. People seem to have this idea about it as if it was equivalent to the common cold. It's not. It's an amazing adaptable virus that mutates all the time. I love that the title is simplistic and non threatening because it's how people view it.

i hate those kind of premises, its the same as disaster stuff, its just never good. it may be ok, but its never the outstanding, exceptional sort of good.
...aaaaand i will watch this for sure, because jang hyuk. i wish he could make better role choices, he tends to do alot of "meh" projects.

Bad combo.
This two need to start a lighter drama or movie. I'm tired seeing this two playing badass and act cool whatsoever. Soo Ae So good when she played in 9 in 10 out. And JH so funny when hehe played in succesful story of bright girl. I want those old day to be back again.

Bird flu & SARS drama/films are boring to USAers but not to South Koreans. Just across the water from Korea is the coastal region of the latest bird flu out break, the H7N9 birdie.
Unlike H5N1 the birds have no symptoms of this new virus. They just fly around spreading it. It has reach Saudi Arabia.
How long before the birds fly to Korea?
Meanwhile spreading form Middle East, a Corona Virus (SARS2) has spread to Europe and to India. A man in France just killed himself because he had this. I wonder if the Afgahn and Iraq vests are going to bring it to their homeland...
