Goddess of Fire’s teaser and couple posters

Here’s a peek at Moon Geun-young and Lee Sang-yoon in their new MBC sageuk Goddess of Fire Jung-yi, set to premiere in two weeks. I never thought I’d say this, but the more cutesy stuff I see for this show, the less I’m interested in it. Either Moon Geun-young has outgrown the cutesy, or this just wasn’t the tone I was expecting for this drama. But on the upside, I’ve been led astray by drama promo before (or, okay — almost always) so I suppose it’s no reason to write a show off entirely.
It’s just going to take something more than this teaser to get me to watch a 32-episode series, that’s for sure. I can’t figure out why they chose a tone so juvenile for a historical drama, even if it is a love story first. If your hero is King Gwanghae, shouldn’t there be a little more pomp and a little less lovesick puppy?
The posters are cute and I can see potential in their pairing (though it’s not the kind with explosive fireworks, to say the least), but that teaser just feels like it’s aimed at the child actress’s fan base more than the leading pair’s. At least Jin Ji-hee (Aging Family), who plays the young Jung-yi, looks like she’s having fun.
The Monday-Tuesday drama comes from the PD of Heading to the Ground and the writer of Warrior Baek Dong-soo, and will follow the life and love of the heroine who grows up to be the first female potter in Joseon, and shares a classic Love That Cannot Be with the king. That can’t possibly end well, but hey, she’s got Kim Bum waiting in the wings, so how bad could it be? Let’s just hope the show is better than it looks right now. If the goal was to set our expectations really low so that you could surprise us on premiere day, you’re halfway there, Show.
Goddess of Fire Jung-yi follows Gu Family Book and premieres July 1 on MBC.

Thank you for the update, I saw the second teaser and he looks not bad , It is better, but I think that the first one to teaser hints at the progress of the history. At the moment I love and I really look forward to being there on July 1st

The second teaser is a bit better but I'm still wary. Anything associated with Heading to the Ground needs to be buried and contained in the ground.

I will always see Shin Yun Bok when I see MGY in sageuk attire... It's just so weird/good - I don't know. But I know for sure I will stay away from this... whatever it is.

Im not gonna lie that I cringe with that teaser! But in the bts videos, its nothing related to the story itself... So thank god... The second teaser is out and it looks sooo much better!

That teaser is awful. I don't know that actor who will be the male lead but I find him not charismatic. Let's hope for the viewers that he is a good actor... As MGY, I must have some kind of allergy.

Moon Geun Young is a good actress but the fact that she looks perpetually 12 is disconcerting. Far be it from me to harp on an actress' face but I really cannot imagine her in an adult role - which is quite a pity.

I think it was the haircut that fit her well and made her mature.

I was just thinking the same thing! She didn't look nearly as young in Cinderella's Sister as she does here. I couldn't quite figure out why, though, but I think you're right--the haircut did make her look more mature. Also, it looks like her face is a bit rounder in these stills compared to the photos from Cinderella's Sister, which also make her look more baby-faced, or at least to me.

Jin Ji-hee has a very promising career ahead of her.
Right now, if I were casting for the role of a "smart-alec" tweener, she'd be my 1st choice.
As for the "beef" - normally I'm not that all impressed by the physiques of actors or idols, but darn, these guys are huge and cut; even Spartakooks would look like the "runt" in the litter.

I really don't think that we can draw any conclusions from the promos. But,judging from the photo of the guys with the abs, the peasants of that time period must have had time for lots of crunches!

The teaser don't sell anything to me, but both look cute.
I love LSY, and I do love MGY.. Am in, and hoping that this would be good, way better than Horse Healer that made me doze off from 28+ eps.. *solemnly praying*

Sounds like it will be a great first 10 eps like WBDS. I love Jin Ji-hee, her part seems more lively and fun to watch.
I'm not feeling the 2 leads although I love them both. MGY looks like child beside LSY.

MGY's young face is her biggest disadvantage cos she ends up looking like a child instead of a woman hence i don't feel any kind of connection between the leads....It's more of an Uncle and Niece relationship...I don't think i'll be watching past the children's arch......

I don't even know what to think. Nothing really jumps out at all at all. But I have been burned many many times by decent trailers and horrible actual drama. So I won't be fooled just yet. I am must harder to please nowadays so I doubt that I will follow this when it's airing live.
But I really want it to be good. I do! MGY - fighting! I think the main lead can act. So I just hope it will be good.

For me I'm really interested in this saguek mainly because of the history. The Immortal Lee Soon Shin touched a bit of this part of history in that drama, so I'm excited to see more (even though it's not exactly the same period...but potters being kidnapped!funfunfun) I'm definitely going to give this drama a chance.

I was really surprised by the tone of the teaser; it didn't mesh at all with what I was expecting from the bits of synopsis I'd read so far. It kind of reminds me of the tone of MTETS, essentially a Disney-esque teen show masquerading as a historical drama. Then again, as GF pointed out, teasers can be misleading, so I may be completely wrong.

Reasons Not to Watch-
-Sageuk
-I generally never like MGY dramas
-The guys in the wood and the little girl scream Snow White and the & Trolls and kind of wigs me out
-The lead actor is not my cup of tea
-I'm willing to bet all the good stuff happens with the child actress and we spend the rest of the time watching MGY be conflicted and not sell the pottery making and watching the lead actor be conflicted as he watches MGY not sell the pottery making.
Reasons to Watch-
Kim Bum
Sooooo....yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to just have to look for pretty recap pictures of that pretty boy on the net and PASS.

I loved MGY in cinderella's sister and thought she portrayed the adult role well. But I'm not sure if it's the makeup, hair, costume but she looks like a teen with a man that could be old enough to be her uncle. Also does she has two leading man?

And by the way , girlfriday ,you are absolutely right ! it will be quite difficult to tell its a good saguek drama .. with 32 episodes, lovesick puppies, juvenile tone ?!
but it would be interesting to check out 2-3 episodes., u can't tell how it would turn out !

Finally. It's been a while they've had a saeguek where the lead lady doesn't look like the lead guy's mother or aunt.
(Specifically talking about Han Ga-In in Moon Embracing the Sun and Kim Tae Hee in her current historical piece. The lead women were fine, but they should have gotten men their age, not babies when compared to them. Just sayin'.)

@ anais. By the way, could you post a picture of your own caterpillars for us to take a look? If you do, let us do the comparisons and be the judge of it. Until then, I think you should take a good hard look at yours before passing such tasteless remarks.
If you find Moonie's caterpillars such distraction, pray do not watch her drama then. You might just get blinded when it turns into a butterfly.

MGY is a very capable actress. The problem is that actresses in Korea basically cannot get roles that do not revolve around or prominently feature lovelines, and MGY's primary deficiency as an actor is the difficulty she has in creating chemistry/sparks with her male leads.
I wish she could snag a role that didn't center around romance.

Definitely hope Kim Bum gets his first really leading role after the Tsui Hark´s film, at last. This waiting in the wigs, well ... Definitely would want to watch him in something interesting, and this, frankly, doesn´t look very appeasing so far.

I had no plans to follow this drama at all, but now.... yeah, still won't follow it. I'm really getting tired of all the sageuk this year. Gu Family Book I love because Lee Seung-gi is in it, and the story is compelling. But this Goddess of Fire just looks so childish. It doesn't help that the female lead looks like she should still be in school. Don't get me wrong, I love Moon Geun-young, but I just can't see her in a sageuk as the lead. I can see her as the lead's younger sister. That's all. It doesn't matter that Kim Bum is also in this. I most likely will not watch it.
I also think it's about time Kim Bum was a lead in a drama. He plays the loyal best friend very well. Let's see him play the hero for once with a loyal best friend of his own.

IM DISSAPOINTED!!! MGY she still have a baby face... and yet she always pair up with man much older...
it will be wonderful if they could pair up mgy n kimbum...
seem like kimbum yet again!! can't get the heroine this time!!
most probably I won't be following this drama
1st it's too long ...
2nd I don't like the pairing.. it's painful to watch 2nd lead being the perfect match with the heroine while can't never get it...
3rd I dunno the male lead!
