Doctor serves up more summer horror
by javabeans
Shudder. You know summer’s approaching when the movie industry starts churning out horror flicks and thrillers like they’re candy. Terrible, nightmare-inducing candy. So far this season we’ve had The Webtoon, Monster, and Scary Story 2; here’s the latest entry, Doctor.
The stills from this one are enough to keep me far, far away—so fair warning if you’re a wuss about horror like me. Don’t blame me when your imagination gets stuck picturing all the terrible bloody possibilities of your doctor tying you up and taking out his psychopathic instincts on your person.
It’s worse because it’s Kim Chang-wan playing the part of our crazed plastic surgeon, since I know him from a career of playing warm and/or quirky ajusshi characters (see: Coffee Prince, Triple, Queen of Reversals, End of the World). It’s always the nice ones who give you the most creeps when they turn evil.
The plot kicks off when our doctor villain witnesses his beautiful young wife cheating on him, which unleashes his dormant killer instinct and starts him on an “elaborately beautiful” (?) revenge plan. Um… I’ll give him elaborate. I’m not so sure I’m there on the beautiful part. So if B-list horror movies are your thing, have at it. I’ll… be standing over here with the less grisly titles.
Bae So-eun, a 24-year-old rookie actress whom I thought for a second was Lee Chung-ah, plays the cheating wife who shatters the doc’s illusion that his life was perfect. Message: Don’t cheat? Though I guess the message could also be: Don’t turn into a raving lunatic psycho killer.
Doctor comes from the director of The Hole and Disappearance, Kim Sung-hong, who seems to specialize in the horror-thriller genre. The movie releases June 20; watch the trailer below.

Yea! Me 2 too! :) At first, I thought, like, 'Oo, it's Lee Chung Ah!!' but I was wrong about her. So, obviously, she's new as a 'rookie' actress, ofc.

on the up side, it looks not too dialogue heavy, so i could go watch it when im in korea in a few weeks.
a little off-topic, does anyone know how they handle ticket sales there, so i wont make a fool out of myself?
do you say "pyo han gae chom putakhamnida" or does that sound ridiculous.

Personally, I think it's a little too... formal? I think~ n__n; It's not something I would personally say if I was only looking to buy a ticket.

Head over to an Arirang Radio show and ask on the message board. Or ask/take a look at TalkToMeInKorean, maybe they'll answer in time or have the sentence already.
If you don't have an itinerary planned yet, check the Travel Itinerary corner on Arirang's Travel Bug. They have their own travel agent that can even create a travel itinerary based on your needs if you email/message them what kind of budget you have/where you want to go. check it out and have fun in Korea!

You can merely say the name of the movie and the time they will understand you better that way. You can always just speak English they may not understand you completely but you will get there. Be very wary of travel phrase books it can make you look a bit odd haha.

thanks for all the responses, i actually do speak korean at an intermediate level, but completely self taught with books so i feel a bit lost with whats appropriate in normal conversation at times.
i suppose i will try to not make it exaggeratedly polite. but i do think i should try to not use english too much, since i am actually going there for a language course.

For a moment I thought it was Ha Ji Won in the 7th picture (the one where the wife is wearing an apron). I don't know why, but I always find my Asian horror movies creepier than the Western one :/

Okay, so the 'look at all this blood on my face' still.
There's blood on his face. All over his face, the front, the sides, some in his hair. And I think that's blood on his tie.
Why isn't there blood on his shirt? I mean, if he's ears and the side of his face got coated with blood, how does he avoid getting as little as a droplet on his shirt?

Meh, horror films about people killing people don't really scare me. It's the ones with supernatural elements like vengeful ghosts that scare me(although I still watch them). It's ironic that I'm more scared of an impossible thing like ghosts rather than something possible like getting murdered by another person.

Sorry to disappoint you, but ghosts are not "an impossible thing". They are living beings, devoid of gross bodies, but still possessing subtle bodies.
