Park Ha-sun joins cast of Two Weeks
by javabeans
The cast is shaping up nicely for Two Weeks, the upcoming MBC thriller that has just added Park Ha-sun (High Kick 3) to its cast. The drama stars Lee Jun-ki (Arang and the Magistrate) as its wrongfully accused hero out to clear his name, while Kim So-yeon (IRIS, Athena) plays the prosecutor who thinks he’s guilty.
Park Ha-sun will play the first love Lee Jun-ki can’t forget—is there any other kind in dramaland? And yet, she was the one who raised his daughter alone for eight years. Though we aren’t given the details I’m expecting some extenuating circumstances to account for this, since he didn’t know about his daughter’s existence all that while. So not quite a deadbeat dad, or at least not intentionally. Once he finds out that she has leukemia, he and Park Ha-sun embark on a race against the clock to save the girl’s life, while he also dodges killers and prosecutors and unjust accusations. Sounds fast-moving and tense.
I love Park Ha-sun so this is a welcome addition, and while most “hero’s bygone first love” characters are good for a short stint and then fade into the backdrop, I think we can expect a bit more involvement here since she’ll be helping to save the girl. There’s a great dichotomy to Park’s acting that makes her great for this kind of role, since she possesses a gentle, nurturing outer image while still being able to convey a steeliness underneath. Park explained her decision to take the drama, saying, “When I first read the synopsis, the character touched my heart. She’s a character with a lot of pain, and I want to make viewers able to relate to that.”
Two Weeks, which comes from the writer of 49 Days and Prosecutor Princess, airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning in August.

Don't know her, but she looks like a mix of Han Hyo Joo and Park Shin Hye in the picture. Purty.
Since First Loves are never Fated to Be in dramaland, can we expect a loveline between the prosecutor and the fugitive?

Ehh, not unless they manage to kill Park Ha Sun's character. I don't think Lee Jun Ki will survive this drama either so the point may in fact be moot.

Funny you mention Han Hyo Joo, because I believe she was Queen In-hyeon in Han Hyo Joo's "Dong Yi."

They both have their beauty but PHS is one of those rare actresses whose beauty really shines in Joseon garb/head-dress.
The Joseon hair-styles aren't as flattering on HHJ.

Me too.
Was totally shocked at how young PHS was at the time (played the Queen w/ total presence).
PHS has all the makings of a superstar - something is wrong if she doesn't become one.

My first thought when Queen Inhyeon first appeared in Dong Yi was "Is that the queen? It's the queen! OMG she's gorgeous! Sukjong, what's wrong with you?" :D

LOL!
Yeah, I also thought that JJH's Sukjong was nuts for favoring other women over PHS's Inhyeon.
That was probably the one flaw in casting PHS as Queen Inhyeon - was too difficult to believe that Sukjong basically "dumped" her.

I love her, she was the best thing in Dong Yi to me and she will always be my Queen In-Hyun. Such grace and elegant this girl has, she must have been a princess or queen in her past life.
I'm glad that the romance is going to be in the past because there is just no room for it. On the other hand, they would have made a great pair in a straight up rom.com.

I agree. I become even more certain she was a nation's queen in her past life when as she continues to grace us on the red carpet with hanbok-esque gowns!
She really is a regal woman. I don't know how well I'll be able to see her in rom-coms/anything that is not queenly.

Is it strange that after hearing about her character I wouldn't mind "if" there is to be a love-line that it be between them two. I can only imagine being a single mother and then having to turn to your ex in asking for help to save their child. The back story would be interesting.
As for the actress this is the first time I've ever laid eyes on her but from the picture alone she is gorgeous.

I'm sorry but the idea of the two of them being a couple sounds like something straight out of hundreds, if not thousands, of Harlequins (especially the Harlequin Intrigue imprint). For me it wouldn't be anything I haven't read before.
Granted, Jun-ki's character ending up with the prosecutor is also not a very original idea. I just prefer that over him ending up with the first love.

I know this drama won't be focusing on romance (and I'm totally okay with it), I'm just curious about the love line. 'Coz at first I thought KSY and LJK will develop feelings for each other, but with this latest description and casting I guess they are no longer canon?

They can't possibly be. Especially not over a time period of 2 weeks.
Someone on Soompi said that Park Ha Sun may be the romantic female lead but Kim So Yeon will be an important character who just happens to be female.

I adore Park Ha Sun. Wouldn't she be the female lead though because I think Kim So Yeon really does not match Lee Jun Ki because she has a more older look to her unless its a noona type of love.

I thought I kept up on recent medical advances, but now I've learned that tuberculosis was curable in ye olde Joseon times and apparently leukemia is curable in modern Korea. 'Cause, if they weren't curable, why is everyone rushing around treating a long term and eventually fatal illness like there was a antidote available if only Daddy weren't on the run from the cops?
I appreciate that the physician from Mandate of Heaven wants to be there to deal with his daughter's pain, but, if she's coughing blood now, she's not going to be on this earth more than a few months, and he didn't need access to the royal palace to comfort her in her final days. And what is this modern fugitive rushing around looking for? Doesn't Korea have a national health system and hospices for leukemia victims? Since this isn't science fiction, what miracle cure is out there that might save her life?

To cure leukemia isn't a stem cell or bone marrow transplant necessary? Maybe he's the only match they've found (it's rare but possible for a parent to be histocompatible) and she's far enough along that it's dangerous to delay the transplant.

Currently, for certain types of leukemia, as Elaienar said, a total bone marrow transplant is a cure. There is a rather fast growing form of leukemia that when treated with a certain chemotherapeutic agent also has really good results. My best friend's wife had that form and she's back to normal after just a few years.
So there are quite a few choices out there -- so don't give up hope!

"Kim So Yeon will be an important character who just happens to be female."
Hooray! So Yeon is going to be good no matter what she plays, and she can do a lot more if she isn't stuck being a simpering female romantic lead. Two smart, charismatic characters in a duel of wits is what made the movie version of 'The Fugitive' work.

I love love love Park Ha Sun! She is so natural looking, and she gorgeous as well! Her performances always have a certain amount of layering to them. In high kick it was elegant, with an inner dorkiness. In Dong Yi, graceful beauty and regalness yet with a tremendous amount of inner compassion. And in Ad Man, a hot smart babe yet also a really good and loyal friend. I can't wait to see what she becomes in this drama! :)

I guess Ad Genius was just that unknown and/or forgettable that she's not really cited for it, huh? It was her first leading role too... As a female character that was actually capable of standing up for herself, she did a pretty fine job, so I'm sure she'll be able to deftly balance the gentleness and steeliness this role requires.
And it looks like fugitive-daddy-running-around-desperately-trying-to-save-sick-daughter dramas are this year's time-travel dramas... Well, I gotta say that it's probably a lot easier to connect with viewers with this theme, and really much less difficult for dramaland to mess it up. I think. (My personal bias as a daddy's girl almost makes me fall in love with these dramas just based on description alone. xD)

I only watched her in High Kick and Ad Genius but she has a tendency go get a little annoying as the shows progress. Maybe its her voice..*shrug* and I feel like her acting was very similar in those two dramas, the only difference being that in Ad Genius she wasn't as quirky. Hopefully I get to see more of her acting skills in this drama.
She definitely does possess a gentle quality with a little bit of quirk. :)
