Im Joo-hwan, Kang So-ra’s Watch Out For Fools
by javabeans
Im Joo-hwan (What’s Up) is back on television, and here are the pretty first stills from his new SBS drama starring opposite Kang So-ra (Dream High 2). They look lovely and fresh and ready for spring, but I’ll say it again: daily drama booooo.
The title is Watch Out For Fools, changed from its previous title Bravo My Life. The title isn’t a perfect fit, but it means something like “Warning: Fools Ahead.” According to scriptwriter Jung Ji-woo, writer of heartwarming weekend fare like Wish Upon a Star (Pick the Stars), Gloria, and Family Honor, the title refers to people who devote, sacrifice, and endure for the ones they love with such devotion that others might call them foolish or stupid. This drama will focus on said “fools,” who give so much to the selfish folks of the world, and will give them their own reversal.
The drama kicks off with the second marriages of two parents, with the kids suddenly finding themselves saddled with new siblings. (Um. Please tell me this isn’t our main couple. Haven’t we had enough fauxcest this year? This decade?) Im Joo-hwan finds himself the new head of the household, and through his selfless sacrifice (hello, fool?) we are shown genuine family love and communication.
Director Shin Yoon-sub most recently directed Rooftop Prince, which I actually think is a promising sign on the PD front; while Rooftop was sloppily written, it had a wonderful light air to the romance, and the comedy scenes were some of the funniest laugh-out-loud moments I’ve seen in a recent drama. And while I find writer Jung’s work uneven too, there’s a light-hearted charm there as well.
Too bad this one’s a daily. It’ll air on SBS, Monday through Friday, beginning May 20.

Kang Sora was the only thing holding up dream high 2 imo even though i didn't love her character.
Maybe it was because she was the only non-idol, but the only person who actually sunk into their character was her. I think the gal has alot of potential.
Jin woon wasn't so bad himself.

So... "Noble Idiocy, your daily dose?" And fauxcest on top of that? This is going to be hard to swallow! If I watch, it will be only for IJH.

i like both the actors but noble idiocy plus fauxcest thats just too much..... my first fauxcest was i guess les liasions dangeruses and the remakes like cruel intentions but in a drama i guess i saw it in devil beside you first and i have to say it even if i'm pelted with eggs i hated the drama mostly because i hate the whole concept of fauxcest and even though i liked les liasons it was because the siblings were not the otp....

The OTP are NOT related by any means. The siblings are gonna be Im Ju hwan and the second lead.i.e,Step brothers battling for Sora's affection.I'm cautiously excited cuz this will be my first daily and I heard that the writers insisted that this drama be makjang-free so maybe it could be something fresh..

Makjang free = YES!!! Curious to see how they will handle this though: The leopard can't change his spots. ;)

Mak-jang free?!
That's gonna be one short daily drama script! I can't even imagine what the writer will have to come up with for that number of episodes.
Kang Sora is one of my favorite actresses and after watching "What's Up", Im Joo Hwan will be a terrific pairing with her.
Just hope that this will be subbed.

How can you help the fauxcest though in situations like these, where they are literally strangers? If they don't grow up together, I'm not so squicked. Shrugs.* Boo, about it being a daily, but I'll check it out.

Yeah, as long as they didn't grow up in the same household relating to each other as blood-related sister and brother, I'm not squicked out by this scenario either. My problem with these storylines is that they're seldom handled with nuance/maturity and are instead wrung for every ounce of manipulative makjang angst the writers can get out of them.
But this is a daily, so I won't be watching it regardless.

Why must it be romance(even if not related by blood) and not sibling love? This fauxcest thing is way overdone.
I won't swear off dailies as there are some gems before, like Likeable or Not and Family Honor, but this premise here is a big turn off.

Idt family honor was a daily. Correct me if I'm wrong, I think it's a weekend family drama.
---
I'm probably one of the few who enjoys daily dramas. It's not without flaws, for sure. It can be dragging and filled with annoying characters. But give me two leads that are like able, as well as a few likeable side characters, I'm up for 100+ eps. What I also like about it: miss a few eps and you can still catch up. Heh.

For now I'm just glad that Im Joo Hwan is back on a project. I think being on a daily will be a good move career wise for him.
1.) Good exposure for somebody who has been out for 2 years.
2.) Technically he has been out from the Big 3 stations for more than 2 years given that his last drama aired at a cable channel, which garnered very low ratings.
3.) The daily drama still gives him the "lead actor" title, which he already established he can do and handle before leaving the army, so going back to 2nd lead would mean a slight setback in his career.
I am looking forward to May 20, and my biggest question is: IS THERE ANYBODY WHO WILL SUB THIS DRAMA?
I know, i know. Daily drama = wishful thinking.

What's the problem with daily drama? Haven't even started why say it's booo? Sometimes real actors are needed.
Gonna watch it for Sora and Joo-Hwan - a refreshing pair.
Good for them to appeal to the mature audiences in Korea.

I will watch it, I know it's a daily but I hope it gets subbed. I don't mind watching a longer drama every now and then and I love Im Joo Hwan (I always forget that he is tall! That 1st picture was a reminder, lol) and have missed him and Kang Sora is cool, too.
Plus family drama that may be makjang-free and a sweet romance? Yay!

So, according to this http://www.hancinema.net/kang-so-ra-in-the-new-sbs-drama-ugly-alert-55197.html, it is not fauxcest, but indeed makjang to the core! And what is it with him going to prison for some-one's else and learn to sew??? That's not fool! That's CRAZY!!!
He will also gain a step-sister, will that girl be the third wheel?
Why must this been IJH comeback project? I won't be able to see him on my screen for a longer while, then!
Team Park-kyu <3 <3 -- rewatch is in order...

Latest title is Ugly Warning/Ugly Alert. This is far, far from the synopsis given! Sometimes I wonder who writes them because this one definitely does the drama a disservice! 69 episodes in and I must say this is the best ROMANCE I've seen since QIHM! Probably better because we see more interaction (realistic) between the OTP than I've seen in most of the dramas I've watched. None of the story line has been dragged out, the promise of no-makjang has so far been upheld! The conflicts, so far are appropriate and make TOTAL sense and the acting...well I knew IJH was going to be great but KSR has been phenomenal!! A investment in time, yes but great drama? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY!

I've read this news, but that time I had no idea who Im Joo-hwan is that makes you feel excited when mentioning his comeback but feel disappointed when mentioning his new project is daily drama. Then, I just watch What's up this day and realize, I want What's Up vol 2 start because our director has came back to us.
Ugh, I hope they come together again and start a new season of What's up. They are just awesome.

I am so glad I decided to watch this drama ! This is my first daily and I thought I would give up towards the usual 20 episodes. This was no makjang drama, the writer made every episode matter and knew that the audiences were smart. I applaud the director for making the couples real, I meant -- felt like a real couple. The hugs and kisses were not stiff like the usual kdrama style.
This drama tops my list and the ending is the best I have ever seen. The story was well thought of from beginning to end.... especially the end.

I am currently watching this drama, and I have to say it has me captivated. I have been watching Korean dramas for quite a while now, and whilst I still enjoy them a lot, it is very rare for me these days to find a drama that just I can't stop watching, I always want to see just one more episode. The last drama to enthrall me like this was My Daughter Seo Young, and that is one of my top three all time dramas (in any language). I don't have the disdain that others have for daily dramas. I know the production values are lower, and sometimes the acting of some is not quite as polished as the weekly dramas, but for me, as always, it is the quality of the story that counts. And Ugly Alert for me is top quality.

Wow. As far as daily dramas go, this is a good one. I mean, I'm so happy that I actually took the time. The romance between the leads is lovely and their romance isn't even my favorite in the series. In fact, I love this series the most for showing me how endearing Answer Me 1997's Shin So-Yul can be. Man, I already loved her in that, but in this she's even better and her romance with newbie actor Choi Tae-Joon is so cute and has a lovely progression to it that feels very real. Like any series, I think it does have flaws, but it makes up for them with the characters and their relationships!
