Horror flick The Webtoon unleashes spine-chilling trailer

So usually I’ll watch a movie trailer and look for things to like about it, sometimes very readily and at other times with effort, in my lifelong goal of hoping for the best. It doesn’t always work out, but it’s a worthy pursuit, I think.
That said, after seeing the trailer for upcoming serial killer movie The Webtoon: Foretold Murder, I am definitely, positively determined never to see this movie. Heebie-jeebies galore. I don’t care if it stars Lee Shi-young (as a horror webtoon artist) and Eom Ki-joon (as a cop investigating a murder copycatting the webtoon storyline), because I’m pretty sure this movie would give me nightmares for days. One month of imagining The Ring’s creepy ghost girl popping out of every monitor I encountered was enough paranoia for a lifetime.
Naturally, my first instinct was to share. Enjoy!
I realize that’s sort of like biting into something awful, exclaiming how very awful it is, and then insisting, “Now YOU try it!” But you know, shared experience can be meaningful and bonding and important, and also I’m taking you down with me.
Now, the story itself doesn’t sound especially novel—it calls to mind American TV show Heroes, with the drawing of ghastly murder scenes before they happen—but it’s got that extra twist of grisliness Asian cinema does so well. And sure, there’s a chance this movie might be awful and fade away and become just one in a sea of B-list horror flicks. Still, the artwork is interesting (in a macabre way) and the movie has taken pains to render the real-life scenes in close imitation of the drawings; they manage to preserve that cartoon feel but in a realistic way. It’s kind of cool. (I’m still not going to watch it.)
The Webtoon: Foretold Murder will release in late June.

lols at your comment... :D the photos sure look scary and upon reading your post, it made me laugh.. i can imagine you screaming and whining at the same time while saying that... but when i scroll up to that last photo... ooohh gave me the creeps too with that bluish scary close-up... i'm so not gonna watch this...

As on all horror movies.
Occasionally I manage psychological terror (like Confessions), but horror, No Thank You.
One film that had a head bouncing like a basketball and one episode of X-files (with a deformed guy living inside the body of his twin brother, who worked at a circus of freaks) scarred me for life.

I love this kind of movies^^ The more macabre the better :D And I totally enjoy the grisliness of Asian movies (which was missing in Park Chan Wook's "Stoker", which I watched yesterday - I liked it but it was way too "Hollywood" for my liking :P).

I'm usually in the minority but i'm gung ho about horror films, esp. horror films that are done really well, as in.. leave me thinking about it for days on end.
This is probably weird to some people. Usually the thrills of watching a horror film is unlike anything else.

I'm with you both :D I don't enjoy bloody massacres but I like asian ghost stories, usually when I'm stressed from real life it helps me free my mind. I've watched countless B-versions of the Ring but sometimes, like you say mangos, some leave you thinking

Definitely like horror films as well, I also love watching the making of horror films, you can see there's so much dedication and thought put into that genre of film that makes me enjoy it all the more.

I'm usually a sucker for bonus material and I'd eat up any special features and commentaries. But I cannot deal with it when it comes to horror films. I'd rather keep the fear and suspense fresh in my mind rather than to see how "normal" it is on set.

Yeah, as sort of stylish and cool as this looks, I'm not going to be watching it.
And the Ring? Officially the scariest movie ever, if only for what happened after we turned off the DVD player. It was in the early hours of the morning, my friends and I were preparing for bed... and the phone rang. My private only-two-people-have-this-number-and-they're-both-right-here phone. So I picked it up and on the other end? Nothing but raspy breathing. Ack!
Needless to say, that phone was unplugged immediately and remained unplugged for about two months afterwards.

I'm totally with you on the The Ring experience. I watched it with a friend on a Saturday evening and the whole week creepy things started to happen (you know somebody (my friend probably :D) drawing circles on the chalkboard, flies, the mandatory telephone call). I thought, don't fret, you're imagining things, BUT Saturday came again and I was happily watching a chick flick on free tv when my screen turned black......I was like okaaaaay.....then the screen started to flimmer......not so okaaaay......THEN a picture of the black haired girl apeared slowly walking towards me (at this point I was frantically clutching my pillow and definitly NOT okay). I was frantically grabbing for the remote control when it came: 22:15 the Ring on Posieben. Worst. Advertisment. EVER!

i love how the ring got into the minds of people...had us hallucinating and made our imaginations go wild..the funny thing is..we viewers were the ones that scared our selves more than the movie did..our crazy imaginations got the best of us...what great fun

oh my good god! i didnt even try to watch the trailer after what u said...
and u even mentioned THE RING!! oooh... that one was a lifetime nightmare! :/ it just messed up with my very first reasoning not to freak out while watching a horror film, that "everything is inside the TV"... it never worked afterwards, because it WALKS OUT!!! oops!

I'm not afraid anymore of Sadako coming out of the TV, but I'm still not looking in the direction of our oval mirror when lights are out or looking outside my bedroom window at 2am.
I'm curious about the trailer but I'm gonna watch it much later when the sun's up. ;)

i am too curious with this link but am too scared to click it... so far i've only seen one of these Korean webtoons that my forever-scared sister has the silliest thinking she could handle watching all alone... after her traumatic experience, she meant to get back by having me watch it myself (i think that's the ghost story that happened on one of the streets in Korea)... too bad when the scariest part is on, she peeked on my screen and screamed even before i did... her scream surely got me there, with its chilling sound that made my skin gone cold... got a good laugh afterwards but i can't forget it... i'm not the scary type when it comes to horror movies but now... i dont know... can't watch it when my workshift starts at 3am and i have to walk alone along the dark streets to work... bad idea!

Maybe I'm just so used to watching horror flicks (the one that really scared me was Kaidan...), this one doesnt look that scary. Then again, it's just the trailer so we'll see. I'm definitely on the lookout for this.
Assumption: I agree with someone from the previous post about this: it's LSY who's the "murderer". Whatever she creates there's some supernatural explanation that's taking place. Then again, that's way too easy. So yeah, I'm definitely excited for the guessing game to happen.

actually doesn't look that scary to me! definitely gory, and the little girl whispers were a little upsetting, but overall doesn't look too intense. I've been getting into horror movies lately - if I hear good things, I might check it out, since the aesthetic looks interesting.

I'm with you! I have a hate/love relationship with horror movies. They can scare me and creep me out, but I can still find them fascinating with the sort of "I cannot stop watching this, but why am I torturing myself!" -feeling.
I'm intrigued with this movie, and executed well it could turn out brilliant. So will probably watch it if I get the chance to do so.

omg... this.... i'm watching it... definitely. maybe i'm desensitized but i think it'll be a good one... hopefully... lately I've been on a horror binge, an I've found that i'm not as easily traumatized as before and my tolerance for gore has gone up...

My love of horror movies is what brought me to Asian horror. Asian Horror is what brought me to KDrama, via a mention of CrunchyRoll for online streaming.
Trying to find out information about my very first KDrama* is what brought me to DramaBeans!
Two years ago next month, me and KDrama. It flew by. I'm thinking we should get couple rings.
*Goong - I marathoned it in 3 days, sobbing and thinking I was crazy and wondering what the HELL 'sa wrong hay' and 'hand bouquet' meant and did every oen really call the Queen Mama, and why did every other word end in 'imnika'.

I have a hate/love relationship with horror movies (Asian or not). I mean they creep me out and can make me paranoid (or make me find them hilarious depending on execution) but I still cannot resist watching them if I find the premise intriguing. So this one is definitively on the list.
Haha funnily enough I was brought to dramabeans cause of "playful kiss". An episode wasn't working so I tried to look for it another place, and stumbled upon dramabeans! Since then I stuck around, admittedly for a silent reader until recently.

Haha, yes! My daughter would come home from wherever and I'd be sobbing and clutching a pillow while gibberish would be coming from both the computer speakers AND my mouth.
My next few dramas included Boys Over Flowers, Playful Kiss, and Full House. From there it was just a short leap on to A Love to Kill and Let's Go to School, Sang Doo. THAT ONE... I'd try to summarize the plot for her and just start crying and...she really thought I was nuts.

okay the warnings creeped me out more than the actual trailer i'm okay with gory that part of horror i can handle that's why i like slashers those psycho killers are my favorite but the whole hooooo lucifer inside the girl i can't handle that not at all but this movie is right up my alley murder mystery that too copycat murder wow i love this premise the trailer looks promising i like it

I personally like Asian horror much more than American horror as Asian horror relies less on going to the local strip club and bribing everyone there into being in your movie and more on hiring real actors, directors and writers.
That's my complicated way of saying I want to see this

I have to say...I was too confused with the Ring until the end when she came out to process the whole scariness, but I can say, that JUON "The Grudge" that piece of @*#& gave me the fright. Slept with my mom for some good 3 nights.

I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to horror/torture/whatever, but I clicked on the trailer. It wasn't THAT scary (because I watched without sound).

The sane part of me vows to never, ever, ever watch this for as long as I live. The more sadistic (and, admittedly, curious) part of me is like, "Do it. DO IIIIIT."
haha, but no. After The Grudge, I'm never watching an Asian horror film again. Couldn't sleep for months afterwards and, sometimes, I still have nightmares.
(God, even looking at the /name/ gives me chills...)

i steer way clear of horror films as well. i've heard about the ring and all those infamous horror flicks, but never watched a single one.
of course... there's a chance i might not be TOO averse to seeing one... if i was seeing it with an lee min-ho to clutch and hide my face into. LOL but man, even so.
i was spooked enough by the jang hyuk/park hee-soon film the client. i really enjoy thrillers, but i made the mistake of watching this at night, alone, and i spook very easily. ***POSSIBLE SPOILER*** in fact, in the flashback, i was too scaredy-cat to re-watch how the wife was actually killed on the bed...

Not really a fan of horror movies in particular but this movie got me by the serial killer tag. I'm just kinda into serial killer movies. ghostly apparitions and the sorts scares me, I won't even touch the ring; the grudge and all those one word titled asian horror flick with a ten foot pole but I can just watch Hannibal fry brains over and over again.

Only because I can't wait for this article to be buried under new recaps.
DB has been freaking me out all day. I hate the photo when you open up this page. I didn't even read the article once the photos came on. Forget about watching the video.
