Han Hyo-joo chases Jung Woo-sung in The Watchers

The poster and first teaser are out for the chase action thriller The Watchers (also going by the title Cold Eyes), starring Jung Woo-sung as a mob boss on the run from the law — the super creepy Big Brother Is Watching kind of law. I’m pretty sure Jung Woo-sung is still the bad guy at the end of the day. I think. It’s hard to say with all the spying going on. Other than that, the teaser seems pretty straightforward: badassery-surveillance-chase-chase-chase.
The film is a collaboration between the directors of The World of Silence and Blue Salt, about the network of surveillance used by law enforcement. Leading Team Big Brother is Sol Kyung-gu, the veteran cop to underlings Han Hyo-joo and 2PM idol Lee Junho. The team is tasked with ’round-the-clock surveillance of criminal organizations, and they rely on the ridiculously vast array of CCTV cameras all over the city to track their targets. They finally meet their match in Jung Woo-sung, the head of the crime syndicate they’re after, and a pro at dodging surveillance teams. He leaves no trace, moving through the city like a shadow.
Han Hyo-joo is a rookie to the team, but she has a photographic memory, which proves to be quite useful in the field. It also looks dangerous — the still down below looks like Jung Woo-sung turns the tables on her. So who’s watching whom? I’m looking forward to seeing her do more action flicks, because she’s growing out of her sweet innocent type in a nice way with her more recent projects, and I like the diversity she’s starting to show. And Jung Woo-sung as a baddie should be fun.
The Watchers hits theaters July 4.

Ever since I saw JWS in The Good, the Bad, the Weird, I can't quite recognize him without the stache. Don't like his hair here either. But he knows how to bring the badass, and I like HHJ's new style, I think I've only seen her in Iljimae, she suits the modern style quite well, and whoa does she look young in that hoodie.

Thank goodness Han Hyo-joo's growing out of her Iljimae/Brilliant Legacy image, the whole 'pure bland Candy' thing just did not suit her at all except in terms of her looks (she was completely forgettable there). Good to see she's carving out a career in movies now, I think this might be more her cup of tea.

It's like the "edgier" hairstyle came with "edgier" roles. I'm liking both. And Jung Woo Sung is always worth watching.

Han Hyo Joo is on a roll with these films. I think she's mediocre as an actress but she does seem better in movies than dramas.
oh and Ha Jung Woo is the king of korean cinema right now. Dude is in everything.

i actually thought the one with the long hair was a guy! hahaha when i saw the poster i was like, "who's that?".. i knew from the start that Han Hyo-joo was in the film but because her hair was a lot shorter i did not recognized her. especially on that photo with Junho..
i was searching who that long hair guy was.. cant help but laugh. now that i realized he is she...
anyway, im looking forward to this movie..

I love her look as a traditional "clean"-looking Korean woman (i.e. Gwanghae) but yes. I'm definitely definitely getting tired of her playing candy girls.

hhj has been amazing in everything ive seen her in (iljimae, shining inheritance, always, postman to heaven, and love 911) so ill for sure be watching this I just love her and have all her other series and movies on my too watch list

GF thank you so much. I discovered K-dramas first but I love K-films 100times more and I get all excited when there is an update or review.
I'm not a fan of Han Hyo-joo's acting maybe because she always play the poor and sweet little heroine type of role. So here is hoping that not only she can use her brain here but kick some ass while she's at it.

probably not, but i dont feel to good about that. i am even a fan of 2pm, but i think its become to much of a trend that idols can be pushed into every production because the producers think it can earn some extra bucks.
its a general issue that directors are forced to cast certain people, and without that cannot go ahead with filming.
additionally to that current package casting trend.
those kind of bureaucratics are a huge obstacle to real, artful filmmaking.

JYP is one nasty, powerful dude. He manages sooner or later to get all of those talentless louts in a drama. I am sure all of the fangirls out there are just thrilled, but to me it's just another flareup of the main disease of dramas.
One reason why I moved from jdrama to kdrama was I was tired of all the idol dramas, weedy teens who couldn't act their way out of a paper bag kept front and center. If there was an exception, it would go to someone from SMAP, LOL. So I moved to kdrama, where there was much more variety and much more real acting talent on display. So what happens but Korea gets its very own Johnny's Jimusho in JYP. (I know there are others, like SME, but he seems to be the worst.)
It's a horrible trend that brings down the talent level in nearly every production. It is a totally cynical view of dramas - they are not seen as any sort of art form, but as a commercial vehicle organized to sell as many products as possible, from an overpriced face cream to the overhyped members of an over-the-hill song and dance team.

did you just copy and paste this stereotypical i-hate-idols diatribe from somewhere else? i mean, this post is clearly discussing a film and not a drama. i dunno, maybe you don't even bother to read the main article and you just scan the comments section for positive comments to reply to with your hackneyed rants.
you mean to tell us that money is usually to be the bottom line in mass media? oh no, say it ain't so! it must be pretty awful living in such a black-and-white world where commercial interests automatically ruin everything.
i don't follow 2pm in the slightest, but this dude's minor role isn't going to make or break this movie. and your needlessly bitter ad hominem attack on the group as whole doesn't do much for the credibility of your argument, not that it had much to begin with.
anyway, i'd suggest you be a little more open-minded, but i'm sure you're just itching to copy and paste a list of all the productions idols have totally ruined, as if that would prove your point. toodles~!

No, this is totally my rant, and I am sticking to it. To address your points:
- it doesn't matter if it is a film or a drama, the issues between commercial manipulation and artistic intent are the same. It is true that the problem is more widespread in dramas.
- nowhere did I state that commercial interests ruin everything; please don't simplify the "trend" I am describing to black and white
- This appears to be larger than a minor role - he is one of two cops on the team, and his picture is twice in the article (although that could be just fanservice)
- If an idol surprises and does well, I talk about that, but often they don't - and I don't need to list all of the productions where this has happened, because everybody already knows about them.

The story plot sounds exactly like the cantonese movie "eye in the sky"
Even the leading lady have the same role, the rookie in the team. The target is slightly different though.

The whole CCTV reminds me of the American CBS show Person of Interest. Which is the same premise of watching people through an array of security cameras located in tunnels, in the bathroom.. pretty much everywhere.

i guess a lot of dramafans have rather alternative, diverse tastes.
you might not have heard of it, but there is a game called "watchdogs" out this year, which also has a very similar vibe.
culture and art is a direct consequence of the current societal context, so what kind of ideas are popular tells alot about modern society and current issues.

Am liking how Han Hyo Joo's branching out into other types of roles besides the bland ones. I feel that she has more to offer than that, but maybe it's just me.
I watched Jumong before becoming a BSB fan and lol yes... He has a VERY interesting role in that drama. XD
And nooooo BSB's getting married?! ;______; I need some tissues here too!
