Choi Jin-hyuk confirmed to reappear in Gu Family Book
by girlfriday
Well while Choi Jin-hyuk ponders over whether or not he’ll be joining Lee Min-ho and Park Shin-hye in Heirs this fall, he’s got one gig lined up for sure in the meantime. He’s been confirmed to make a reappearance in current MBC drama Gu Family Book as Wol-ryung, aka Papa Gumiho. Time for a happy dance. It’s a good week for Choi Jin-hyuk fans.
The door was always left open for Choi Jin-hyuk to return, given that pesky gumiho immortality and all, and the production has confirmed that he’s poised to pop up in the story around Episode 12 or 13, based on the latest scripts. That has to be somewhat influenced by the actor’s popularity — he’s been praised left and right for his short but memorable two-episode stint that opened the show. He played a sweet lovestruck gumiho who was betrayed by his one true love, and as a result of failing his quest to become human, he’s been cursed to live as an evil spirit for a thousand years.
When we last left him he was killed by Dam Pyung-joon and laid to rest on the mountain that he had guarded for a thousand years. Twenty years later his son Kang-chi (Lee Seung-gi) has just discovered that he is half-gumiho, and has set out on his own quest to be human. Here’s where the news gets less happy, given what we know: Our abandoned half-gumiho hero has lived his whole life loving a human surrogate father, and hates his newly unleashed beast half. When he finally encounters his birth father, Dad will be pure raging evil. Talk about needing years of therapy.
So it’s more likely father and son will fight to the death than say, sit down for tea and crackers, but I’ll hold out hope that Wol-ryung can be saved. Because the guy who brought his beloved a sackful of butterflies just to see her smile deserves one good day.
Gu Family Book airs Mondays/Tuesdays on MBC.

This is not a new news for me, it's planned before but I'm so amused seeing his agency used media play to make as if he comes back because his sudden popularity, smh. Anyway, good luck.

This Gumiho father/son dynamic is shaping up to be rather Star Warsian. Anakin starts out pure and innocent, ends up on the dark side, and ultimately battles his son, who is the firmly ensconced on the light side. However, before Darth Vader/Anakin bites it in the end, he is redeemed by the teeny tiny ember of love that still resides in his shriveled little heart, the love for his son, and the woman whom he loved and lost. It's Epic, and a trope worth reconfiguring for this drama...
However, in doing so, Papa Gumiho must also die in the end. Waaaahhh! Snif, snif...

what's sad is his one true love is dead so he won't be able to know that she regretted her decision and still loves him.

Hate to say this but he was the best thing about GFB so far. I'm still floundering about the rest of the story. Love LSG, not a fan of Suzy.

How about this, Wol-ryung...papa, is all dark and such and at first fights his son HOWEVER, whom would he hate more then his beloved son? I say they find common ground and attack the one who is the main source of true evil:
Jo Gwan-woong, the evil nobleman that started all of this and that is continuing the viscous cycle of getting good people killed by just his word and trying to sleep with their daughters.

I thought this was already known from the very beginning since one of the posters showed him among the main characters looking dark and evil.

Isnt it in the plot that he will come back, lol, the news make it sounds like viewers demanding him to come back or sth, :)). His company really knows how to do media play.
Hes cute, but doesnt have the beastly manliness somehow, I didnt see the wilderness in him much, he looked like a nerdy student more than a god to me, may be if he changes to not-so-neat styles, it might help. I really hope the confrontation between him & KC would be epic, the fighting scenes in the drama let me down recently, it was so slooow, I even want to jump in and fight for them, haizz. How can it claim to be a martial art drama, they should hire better martial art instructor!! They begining fight scenes between KC and the thugs was good, but then after that, it seems like they're getting lazy or in a rush of live shooting or sth :((, if they dont concern much about the plot, at least get the scenes & the action look great. I feel bad for Seung Gi really, he's the only reason that keep me going with this show. I couldnt finish any dramas after watching TK2H, even the phenomenon "TWT,TWB". Nine is promising but I dont have the mood for it yet, may be later.

Oh that's FABULOUS news! That just made my day! He was perfect as the mythical creature protecting Jiri Mountain, so sweet and cute. The best episodes were actually the first two. Can't wait for him to reappear heehee...
I usually love what Lee Seung Gi does (I've watched all of his dramas from Brilliant Legacy to the King 2 Hearts) but historical drama doesn't suit him... He is too 21st-century I guess ;p.
Suzy is not that good either, but again, I've never found her very good in any of her dramas. She's very cute though, I must admit.
The veterans actors however, are awesome and the drama is actually very good and I hope the rest of it will be likewise :).

Yeah so happy he will be back. But I don't want all demon and no love! He did a really good job and was sorry his story ended that early in the show.
As for Seung Gi and Suzy's part, well the story moved on nicely. Whenever the two have a rare important/ romantic/serious moment together, I find myself touched and even shedding a tear or two.
Not the best show this year but definitely watchable.
