Park Shin-hye cast opposite Lee Min-ho in Heirs

Drumroll please… We have Lee Min-ho’s leading lady for his new drama He Who Wishes To Wear the Crown, Endure Its Weight: Heirs, aka The More Words We Put in A Title It Makes It Better, See: Hamster! Or yunno, just Heirs. Park Shin-hye has been cast as the heroine, fresh off the set of one drama (Flower Boy Next Door), a movie (The Gift of Room 7), and a short. Does the girl not rest?
The new 20-episode buzz project comes from star writer Kim Eun-sook, who most recently wrote A Gentleman’s Dignity and Secret Garden. She’s as polarizing as she is talented — those of you who watched some of her dramas along with us can attest that you rarely come out of the experience with all your hairs intact. But she does know how to make a hit drama. Directing is Kang Shin-hyo (Tazza, Midas) and the show has been picked up for a fall broadcast.
There’s no story info yet, but I don’t expect this drama to flout expectation. The title’s got chaebol-heir-and-Candy written all over it. I’m excited about the pairing though, which you have to admit is pretty damn perfect. It almost doesn’t matter what the story is. Almost.
Park Shin-hye’s been having a stellar year so far, and though Flower Boy Next Door wasn’t without its failings, she was quirky and winning as Go Dok-mi, and it was her performance that grounded the emotion and heart of the show. Please, please let’s give her a character with some depth, and not just pour all our energies into the hero, eh?
Heirs plans to premiere in October on SBS.

I think there are both good looking. Would make a cute pairing. Although Kim Eun-sook is a famous writer, i never like her work most of her work.I like Lovers in Paris the most, but hated the ending.
PSH always had act the same type of character. So i was really looking forward to see her challenge herself when they announced that she will consider to take up the role of the other drama. I know she will not do very badly, but i believe this might not be a memorable role that will challenge her acting.
LMH is very good looking. I tried to watch his dramas but i don't think he is very talented. He has definitely improved a lot but he is still not as good as compared to his peers. So far the roles he has chosen mostly required him to look super good looking and charming. even city hunter. I also hope he can select more interesting projects. To act as a high school student given his age, i really cannot imagine. Perhaps his company really wants him to have a hit drama so they selected the safest choice. A list writer is definitely a safe choice.

I think that the writer creates a character that actors and the director interpret according to their own perceptions and then act on them. They are aided by the setting, costume, music, editing etc to finally produce something that makes an impact on the audience to varying degrees. Again, the preformed expectations of the viewer also affects what each person is taking in. Their judgment follows from that.
Its for this reason I believe that people are adamant about their views too.
For me, I try to minimize the influence of factors not related to the production of the drama but focus on what the whole drama team is trying to convey with an open mind to be able to enjoy it to the fullest extent.
Personally I feel it is a little premature for us to worry when we know so little about the plot. If I had to be concerned about anything right now it would be the script. This cast has enough experience and ability to do justice to any character that is penned under good direction. My hopes for LMH and SH doing well rests on how well their characters are envisioned and developed for them by KES, the genius writer( I believe that's how she is referred to in the articles)

If LMH's character is sketched from the Prince Harry character, it would be a tailor made role. LMH was a bit of a rebel and bad boy when he was in high school. In that sense, art will be imitating life and he should take to the role easily. I've always thought his strongest moments as an actor are when he's being kind of snarky.

I rather he takes a role that's not tailor made for him. Wouldn't that be more awesome? It's good to see LMH on screen again but I would like to see him surprise us. This tailor made thing don't sound promising. Sure LMH will do well then but it will be nothing new. As it is, I see quite a number of actors his age who might or already overtaken him in terms of acting skills and range. This is important because soon when they all come out of MS, they gonna take more mature roles

Yeah, I completely agree with you.
What I've wondered is how much of a hit his confidence took after Faith. We might underestimate that. It took an awfully long time for an actor as bankable as him to accept his next role. I just wonder whether his managers had something very specific in mind; and whether they're in a little bit of a re-building mode with this drama.

First of all City Hall premise was for main leads in much older bracket and as you rightly said I would also cringe to see them in those role that are totally unsuited for them.
but in this particular scenario I believe and expect her to do it well. If only KES would create a strong enough character for her to be able to show her mettle as an actress......and she gets a good director.
The acclaimed director of the movie "Pieta" after watching her in MOR7 said,
".....the recent most glamorous actress and perhaps South Korea's top actress with unshakeable position in near future"

I don't know about PSH though I watched a bit of TBY, not much impression.
I watched LMH's shows except Faith which I struggled and couldn't finish. If he still acts the same in this one, I think he will be known more and more as just a flower boy. He is very easy on the eyes but whenever I see him in drama, I keep seeing only LMH. Please be good in this one

Have you ever watched personal preference? I didn't know him at a time and I thought he is such a good actor with good looking face. Then City Hunter is another image of him, he is perfect for City Hunter. I wish they will make City Hunter 2 with the same pairing again.

Ok now for my calm response lol. I love PSH in any role, she's an amazing actress and i'm just happy that she's doing another drama. As for LMH, I didn't watch Faith but he was pretty good in all his other dramas so i'm looking forward to this one. I also like them as a couple, they look good together and they both emote pretty well. I just hope that they have chemistry and that I feel engaged in their relationship! I will check this one out :)

Nadia : Park Shin Hye has always acted opposite top notch actors since the year 2003. She has experience acting in various roles and has been highly praised by professionals from the Korean Film Industry. Lee Min Ho is a good actor, too. As one woman to another your comments should be expressed in a more respectable way, without hurting one's feelings. I bet she puts in more hours of work than you and me so sure she knows; "there's no such thing as a free lunch"!!! She's an admirable young lady who has worked her way up from the bottom ans has got you and me interested enough to comment on her life. Exercising our freedom of thoughts is fine and when done with respect expresses the kind of person we are. I am not a Korean and think that neither are you. We love and appreciate the Korean dramas and admire the skills of the beautiful actresses and actors. i just read the comment after i posted mine. to me, i didnt think that much. i just think that who will get me to the small screen to watch the show. if it's lee min ho, then very directly that i'd expect a sweet young girl to pair with him. and then it's a good start of a drama that would make me to grab my popcorn, burying myself in my couch, infront of the computer.

Ooh..fresh pairing. I like. Seriously when I first heard the pairing of Kim Hee Sun and Lee Min Ho I didn't quite buy it. But I could imagine them as a couple together after Faith. I believe this will be the same for this pairing too. Hope to hear more about the plot though.....and make it funny!

LMH needs a solid hit and PSH seems to pick hits or create them. Perhaps they will share their knowledge and strengthen each others (alleged) weaknesses.
And PSH did mention that she is ready to take on sexier roles; could this be her "breakout" role?
But as much fun as this new drama will be, more fun will be had by watching the volleys of snark tossed back and forth between the warring Fan Camps.

Before, when the news of FBND came out, some said her career is going down, her acting sucks, no one wants her, blah bald

Hmm Park Shin Hye has done so many dramas but I never have been able to love her in any. I am still wondering why this girl after the impressive amount of dramas she has been in at such a young age still has not make it BIG. I mean, you have actresses like Moon Geum Young who can go 2 years without acting in a thing and the minute her name is thrown into a project, it becomes huge news...
She needs to take more interesting roles! And how about resting some? She has been everywhere and in everything since the beginning of the year!

She's cute, she is okay in acting, but she doesn't have spark. She fades into the background and you hardly hear netizens talking about her. Good or bad, Korean entertainment is propelled by netizens. So PSH being bland just means she is forgotten. She is not overly praised, nor criticized, so she falls between the crack. She is pretty, but not sexy. Her acting is not the best, nor is it the worse. She is just there. Hence, the reason, why she might be popular for casting, but not popular in the general sense.

bland, boring acting and i do not know why she is still around, maybe they do not have any actress at her age. she looks a lot older than her age.....no spark. and how come the baker felt for her, by force of the PD, i guess

lol girl, she is popular alright. if you want to know the popularity of your favorite actors/actresses IN KOREA, all you have to do is check on their daum fancafe which shows how many fans they got.
for female actresses, i think kim tae hee has the most followed by moon geun young, im soo jung, song hye kyo. after that are han ga in, park shin hye and etc. then comes han ji min and ha ji won ... then shin min ah and park bo young.
moon chae won, han hyo joo, yoon eun hye, kim ha neul are pretty low, around 10-20k whereas the ones i mentioned above have 40-100+k, with kth 100+k.
for actors, it's definitely hyun bin and jo in sung (and lee seung gi).
lee minho and park shin hye have about the same # of fans on daum with LMH having around 3k more.

She tends to play safe in my opinion and the way she picks her role isn't very good. She purposely takes it slow in development or changing between the roles.
She want to learn and grow up from each role she has
It limit her choice of role and ability
But she is capable
BTW, she was in a cable drama, which isn't well-known as the Big 3 's one. Her role is movie is a small role but she still managed to impress people. She has been everywhere because people want her to participate in their project after her impressive short performance in her movie.
I don't really think she is really everywhere to be honest. But people wants her NOW, so you see more of her news

PSH and MGY are 2 of a very few child actresses that made it in the industry out of MANY. It's not easy for them to get through the transition and get appreciated as real actors.
I personally think MGY is a great actress ( she is the youngest Daeksang award winner and the most popular child actor for their generation after all) but she doesn't get me at heart the way PSH does.
I don't think it's fair to compare them either. Their backgrounds and motivations are very different. PSH wasn't not intended to become an actress but just happened to be one. That's what she had been lacking- passion for acting - even she has the talent . though it's hard to blame her with her musical family, close friends and even her mentor is a singer... The girl really doesn't have anyone to motivate her to act. It's like her job and she was working hard for it...
But it seems like her perceptive has been changing this year as she said she love acting ( first time I think) and she wants to act until she grows old.
You are right she isn't as popular as MGY but you can't find a person as talented all around, who has high popularity ( enough) in both Korea and International market at the age of 23, like PSH either
MGY and JGS are both 3 years older than her
They all are child actors
At least PSH is in the right direction and is blossoming with each and every single role she has.

Okay. I might not like PSH on screen (I think she is just there, though I think she improved on flower boy Next door soon, I was tired of the same sad/depressed face)
But because I don't think PSH is a great actress means I'm a LMH fan? LOL Please.
TBH LMH is also as bland as PSH on screen.
It is funny - I lite them better off screen on interviews and bts - they are very cuute. But on screen? It seems they disappear and I think their acting is boring.
LMH had some good moments on City Hunter but that is it.
In Faith he didn't improve he took one step back and it was boooring.
PSH on a melo = please no. I still can hear her scream ''OPPA OPPA OPPA'' and running on the snow (always running, while crying and screaming OPPA!!)
Though she had the best chemistry with Lee Wan !

Cuz great dramas don't happen when you are not living through the character.
City hunter was so damn memorable because I lived with lee min ho. He smiled I smiled. He hurt I hurt.

But still this is a star pairing and since it's all established, all I can hope is to cross fingers and hope for the best!
Lee min ho, just cuz you had one less successful drama doesn't mean you have to compromise and settle for something on your image! Please fight truth and nail with the writer if your character is compromised!!

There is only so much you can do with a character if there is nothing to build on. I wish for a lot from the writer so that both LMH and Shinhye can do their part in making this a memorable drama for us and themselves too.

Am glad it's PSH and not some idol as rumoured. On the other hand, like a lot of commentators here have said, I'm also getting the PSH fatigue, nothing to do with her talent.
There surely must be a dozen of good actresses that can be entrusted with the role....
Hope the director is a good one to capitalise on LMH's strong points (like in City Hunter) and not some rookie director (like in Faith) that shoot from all angles except the right ones. He's definitely a good actor (not the greatest) and he surely can be better so yeah, I'm hoping for a good one from him, whether he plays a student or an old soul like Choi Young, I'm in.
Speaking of which, I feel he played Choi Young character well as CY in Faith is a simple & charismatic man on top of being chauvinistic (as most men were during that period) & protective. My only gripe is the director should angle him better to capture the emotions from his eyes (which really is his greatest asset), so it's not entirely his capability, it's the failure of teamwork in that drama.

I like Faith and LMH's performance as Choi Young. Probably my favorite role of his after Gu Jun Pyo.
I hear ya about 400+ comments on this particular topic. I'm not exactly sure what to make of these comments.
Looking forward to seeing this show. I might check out Tazza and Midas to see more about the directing because I'm scarred for life after seeing the directing of Faith.

I hope this director is a good one. LMH doesn't seem to get a director who can get the best out of his talents. He was phenomenal and charismatic as Goo Jun Pyo in BOF but after that nothing seems to surpass except maybe City Hunter. I hope this drama is not just to please fans but an important one for LMH to grow in his acting. He has too much charisma to waste.

I still don't get it people saying they are tired of Park Shinhye. The girl is into school and had been doing like 1 movie and 1 drama per year, and this is a fact. She has lots of CF and had been very active in TV shows and news interview. It's not like she'd been all over dramas last year. She had been in the business for ten years stating as a child actress.Now that she's getting recognized and I think she deserves it cos she worked her way through to be where she is right now.

Park Shin Hye is so OVERRATED. They should've at least use a new fresh face actress who is as good as she is. Now, I've never watched her act so maybe sh'e good but she's OVERRATED. At least use someone whose as good as her and can get some spotlight. She's had enough! I don't hate her, I just don't like the fact that directors use her because she's got a lot of fans. She's only successful because of Lee Hong Ki, Jang Geun Suk and Yonghwa. I bet if she hadn't filmed any drama with these guys, she never would've been this popular.

Well,talk about overrated...I think Lee Minho is wayyyyy overrated,he has one facial expression and one acting preset, which can't really be classed as acting if he does the same thing all the time. he is a wooden still actor, we can easily tell he is all famous because of his looks.

It's because
1. it's a Kim Eun-Sook drama, who is the queen of the rom-com drama. She has several hits (including Secret Garden, which was popular enough to generate parodies and to get other celebrities talking about tuning in). But her dramas also tend to be divisive. There is a lot of love form the audience. There is also a lot of hate. And then there is also the love-hate relationship.
2. Park Shin Hye is also being cast opposite Lee Min Ho, who tends to generate a lot of posts. That guy is a magnet, even off-screen!
3. Whether they are good actors or not is also a debate. Both are talented for sure, but both have also done some less-than-stellar work that don't reflect well on their actiing.

Yeah, that's what I've suspected too...
I've never seen PSH receiving these many criticisms. I am kinda amazed by it all.
I also kinda of feel bad for Lee Min-ho to have attracted these many comments relating to him and his co-star, when there is so little information about this show that we know of.
Let's just leave them alone; wait until we receive the synopsis, character descriptions, etc...

Excited to see Park Shin Hye in a new project soon, but I am worried about her talent being wasted here. FBND really showed her acting skills and moved her a step forward. And as addictive and fun Kim Eun Sook dramas usually are, except for City Hall, her female characters tend to be an afterthought to the heroes' roles and to be mere objects of affections. These characters could have been played by someone with little range.

Now I can easily understand how lee min ho felt and what he meant in his speech at "2012 sbs drama awards"!
It was crystal clear that he felt lonely! he felt lonely as some may have blamed him,he did his best while some say the drama was not satisfying!!

He is a good actor, even in Faith, he is trying to act out but then it is not to his full potential and there are many scences that he can't express well, almost blank out so people caught those. May be because he has to act against a very profesional actress or may be because of the age gap.
Same to PSH, she is a good actress but then she didn't act good in FBND. Someone take a kiss scene as an example since it is very obvious that she fells to act in that scene because she didn't express it correctly. It can be director/editor's fault as well.
