Lee Soo-kyung’s new image and magazine spread
by javabeans
Lee Soo-kyung has a new drama and a new image to go with it; she goes bold and fierce for this InStyle magazine shoot, which plays off her image as a villainess character in her current drama, I Summon You Gold. It’s not a look I would have chosen for her, but she pulls it off with aplomb, I’d say, looking strong and striking.
I was a bit surprised when Lee Soo-kyung took on a second lead role in I Summon You, Gold, and that it was an antagonist’s role, then again when she chopped off all her hair to transform her look. Because while she has experimented with different kinds of projects before (which I like about her), she’s always been so likable that I’m not sure I want to see her being hateful or bitchy. Even when her characters are deeply flawed, she’s always managed to find some way to make them engaging, like she did in last year’s Color of Woman (her character was materialistic and frivolous, but bubbly and fun all the same).
But I suppose after playing a lot of cheery leads (and okay, a few not-so-cheery ones), one starts to want a challenge. And her show is actually performing decently in the ratings, a bit surprisingly. (I use the word “surprisingly” because of the drama’s production issues, not because the idea seems bad. Although yeah, Han Ji-hye playing two women who look identical who BOTH get to marry Yeon Jung-hoon? And another Candy-chaebol setup? Ehh.) The numbers aren’t outstanding, but the mid-teens ratings are a modest showing and it seems there’s general favor for the show.
I Summon You, Gold airs on Saturdays and Sundays on MBC.

She does look fierce and striking, and I don't recognize the LSK I love from Soulmate. What a change!

He is very ill; he even had to leave the army early, because of it. Here is the DB article:
http://www.dramabeans.com/2011/07/shin-dong-wook-contracts-rare-illness-discharged-from-army/
Very sad. Since this article, he has sent some messages to his fans, thanking them for their support, but no word about a renewal of his career. He looks very different now; you can't live with a lot of pain without it changing your appearance.

I think that he's been sick. I know that he was discharged from the military early with some rare pain disorder. I don't think he's been working much since.

I did not recognize her, either, and I have watched Soulmate several times and struggled with several horrible installments of The Drama That Must Not Be Named. Her face looks a lot thinner, but I don't know if it is the traditional Actress Starvation Diet (tm) or plastic surgery. I think she looked better before, much more unique, now she looks like every other actress out there. I have the same complaint about Kim Sun Ah.

more like she hit the big 30 mark. soooo many Korean ladies once they hit 30 seem to go for the crazy thin look.

I'm enjoying I Summon You, Gold. :) Han Ji-hye and Yeon Jung-hoon have great chemistry. I hope there's more 'wife-husband' interactions between Lee Soo-kyung and Lee Tae-sung's characters, instead of being all work and serious.

Ohhh. She looks like a jewel thief in the 2nd one, like a sophisticated, not creepy, Catwoman. The 2nd picture's my favorite. Nice.

Didn't she do second lead, an antagonist also, in Daemul? I stopped watching it very early, so I don't know whether she remained antagonistic. I almost did not recognize her in that role. So different from Soulmate.

Yup! She is such a b**** as the chaebol daughter in law, actually worse than the snobby lookalike cuz atleast with her she's straight out rude and what not and doesn't flash you a smile whilst insulting you! Plus I can't get used to Vampire Prosecutor playing sad, mistreated puppy-so weird!

If she's supposed to be the villainess in ISYG then she needs to really pick up the pace. Except for a little bit of attitude towards the store manager, she's been doing nothing but taking up space.

I think ISYG is pretty good so far. The lead couple have great chemistry, they're so adorable together. The second lead may seem useless right now, but i suppose the wirter will pick up the pace soon and than we'll se how evil they are. And the third couple is cute, they make the show more interesting.
