Lee Sang-yoon and Yoon Jin-seo’s Santa Barbara romance

I find it an interesting clashing of worlds when my Korean entertainment fix crashes into my real life, i.e., comes Stateside for projects. The stories, language, and handling are all Chungmuro, but look! I recognize that street! That’s a city I’ve been to! And yet it all looks so different through a foreign lens.
Granted, sometimes this leads to painful and cringe-inducing results — Love Story at Harvard makes my insides shrivel — but sometimes the blurring produces an interesting, evocative effect. That’s what I’m hoping for in Santa Barbara, a new romantic melo film that has just cast its leads and is gearing up to start shooting this spring.
Lee Sang-yoon (My Daughter Seo-young) has been tapped to play the male lead, a music director who’s utterly passionate about his work. Yoon Jin-seo (Twelve Men in a Year) is his co-star, and she’ll play a sharp careerwoman, a confident and smart ad exec. The plot unfolds as the two are sent to Santa Barbara in California on a collaborative work project, and they fall in love. Sounds simple and sweet, and the film is classified as a romantic drama, which is in line with the director’s previous films, Second Half and The Winter of the Year was Warm.
Santa Barbara will begin filming at the end of April, and will head to Santa Barbara for location shoots. You know what that means… Stalkers, make your beachside vacation plans now! (Only half-serious! We in no way endorse criminal activity.)

Santa Barbara is soooo beautiful - I spent 4-5 days there for work a few years ago and was just amazed. Especially to realize that when I'd LIVED in Monterey for a year and a half 10-12 years earlier, I'd never even visited and quite frankly did NOT like the West Coast. (Cape Codder here, through and through.)
Thankfully as I left my early 20s and saw more of the world, I realized that so many places have much to offer - but truly, SB stands out among the places I've been.

When we, here in Monterey, get a hankering to get out of town, SB is where we head. It's only a couple of hours away, and it's gorgeous.

Me too me too!!!!! How awesome to know there are kdrama fans in my hometown!! I am so giddy about this and had to post even though I've never posted before...I'm practically hyperventilating here and my husband is giving me weird looks!!! But I'm agonizing because I live in NC now...maybe I could get my mom to do some stalking for me... I just really hope I can watch this movie online somewhere someday!

Lee Sang Yoon did a really nice job as the male lead in MDSY - he has the sweetest smile...
Looking forward to this one and seeing how many 'Beanies' will be in the background shots - maybe they can display a secret hand signal just for us?!

Lee Sang Yoon requires no selling, as far as I am concerned. He will be great for this melo.
It is the choice of leading lady for him that baffles me. Couldn't they have picked an actress matching Lee Sang Yoon's look and age? She looks downright frumpy and old.
Keep in mind that this is a melo film.

Find the students of the Korean Club (of which my son was a member when he was a UCSB student) and create a team approach to finding the filming locations.
For sure, they'll be at the pier and probably the mission. I'm also thinking possibly the Biltmore Hotel, too. Or, they might even go to the ostrich farm near Solvang.

Haha glad I wasn't the only one whose insides shriveled when I recognized some of the sites in Love Story in Harvard. Hopefully there won't be too many Engrish lines in Santa Barbara like in Love Story in Harvard.
