Leads and rivals added to I Summon You, Gold

After some early struggles, MBC’s I Summon You, Gold is taking shape as it assembles its main cast in preparation for its premiere next month. The two latest additions (who are in the final stages of contract talks) are Lee Tae-sung (Rooftop Prince) and Lee Soo-kyung (Color of Woman), who join heroine Han Ji-hye.

The drama is described broadly as a weekend family series that will poke some satirical fun at the “pretensions and reality of the middle class,” while also exploring the meaning of marriage and family. The two Lees will be playing a married couple, and Lee Soo-kyung takes on the opponent role here as the antagonist to Han Ji-hye, who plays not one but two of the lead roles. (Not twins, but two women who look the same. Le sigh.)

So Han Ji-hye is the woman who dreams of becoming a jewelry designer while operating a small accessories stand, and Lee Soo-kyung is the woman who actually is a successful jewelry designer. She married into a family that owns a jewelry company, and Lee Tae-sung is the second son. (Wait, wait, let me guess: Han Ji-hye gets the first son?)

Lee Soo-kyung has played the second-lead antagonist before, though she has a way of being so charming that you tend to see her as more just a rival and not necessarily a villain. Perhaps she’s got it in her to be a villain, but I prefer the way she finds the appeal of potentially abrasive characters and draws that out. I do find her more compelling than Han, that’s for sure.

I Summon You, Gold will replace MBC’s current weekend drama Rascal Sons and premieres in April.

Sounds rather unexciting to me. It takes a lot to persuade me to watch a weekend drama.

ditto.
I also LOL because Lee Tae Sung...ummmmmmmmm he was maybe horrible in Rooftop prince. Remembering the villian he was, with the visible handshaking and eye twitching and unease...lol. He was NOT a subtle villian. He should take villainry acting from Moo Chul who does the chill and sympathy and is believable as a human being very well..albeit his villian character was not written well, but come onnn. The shaking and fear faces were NOT subtle

How about Kim Ji Suk.

Owh my, I love Han Ji Hye and Kim Ji Suk in KBS's daily drama back in 2007 or 2008... Dang it, I can't remember the title.

In that drama, Han Ji Hye wins the best actress awards for actress in daily drama and Kim Ji Suk wins the best newcomer awards.. They're so cute together and the chemistry is awesome.

I think that's the only daily drama that I religiously followed!!! Hah.

Lee Soo Kyung does have charisma. She might overshadow Han Ji Jye.

I was a bit sad to see that rascal sons wasn't being reviewed on here as i saw a post on it on the Site when it first came out. I am on the 6th ep and really loving it and was wondering if anyone else watches it and your thoughts on it. I was intrguid when i found out the lead from answer me 1997 was in it. I watched 12 eps of Rascal Sons & dropped it: Many good family dramas out there, like Childless Comfort. Rascal Sons was boring (storyline and characters are SO outdated) and even the camera work lacks "shine". Actors are good (and good looking) in it but it's not enough. For once, the ratings agree with me: Rascal Sons (mbc) 7% versus Childless Comfort (jtbc) 10%...

To be honest, iv'e never watched a drama with so many eps but so far i like what i see, unless a few eps on and things get repetitive. I got halfway through nice guy and flower Boy next door , which i started out loving so who knows. Anyway, im glad that i'm not the only one who gave it a shot.

Now i need to rewatch bleak night that refuses to leave me. A must watch, by the way.

Thank god Lee Tae Sung is not the first lead. I'm holding out for a truly swoonworthy ajhusshi.

I don't know Lee Tae Sung enough to judge his acting. I liked him as a baddie in RP: He has a poisonous charm and sure is easy on the eyes.
The synopsis doesn't do anything to me at the moment: Gold, jewels and bling bling are meh. I'm sure it's convenient for PPL tho...

He was the dorky 2nd lead in Playful Kiss.
And also 9 Ins and 2 Outs.

I just finished 9 ends & 2 outs - Definitely underrated and a must watch drama - both Lee Jung Jin and Soo Ae so awesome - their chemistry was one of the kind!

No it's not just you. Korean stars slather on the BB cream and flash photography does not help.

I loved Lee Soo Kyung in Soulmate. She added much to Jin Joo in Colour of a woman that I actually found her endearing rather than pitiable or hateful. [Man! I wanted to like that drama but they didn't even try to help me to like it...]

On a side note, is there any news on Shin Dong Wook? The last I heard was that he was still undergoing therapy but had the intention of returning to Kdrama eventually. Wishing him much happiness!
