Kim Yoon-hye cast in mysterious melo-horror Girl
by javabeans
Kim Yoon-hye only just started on her current show, tvN’s delightful rom-com Flower Boy Next Door (she plays Enrique’s frank-speaking first love), but she’s lining up her next project already. It’s a movie titled Girl that’s described as a “horror melo,” which sounds like an intriguing mix.
(If you’re like me, you may still find yourself accidentally calling Kim Yoon-hye by her former stage name, Woori, but this is now her third project under her new name—which is also her old name, being the one she was born with—so I suppose I’ll just have to get used to it. She was still Woori when she was acting in You’ve Fallen For Me, but reverted to her real name as horror-comedy Fortune Tellers came out.)
Girl is set against the scenic backdrop of Gangwon-do, and in particular a lake; there, a “horrific story” unfolds alongside a touching melo loveline between a boy and girl. The deeper the love grows, the more the boy becomes attacker and the girl becomes a victim, though it seems to hint that there’s more here than just an abusive relationship. Perhaps an element of the surreal or supernatural?
Kim Yoon-hye plays the heroine Hye-won, who “harbors many secrets and possesses a curious aura” as she acts as the sole caregiver for her father, who suffers from mental illness. Playing the boy is Kim Shi-hoo, a relatively new face who was most recently in Love Rain playing one of Jang Geun-seok’s friends. Blaming himself for his friend’s suicide, he takes his parents’ suggestion to remove to a peaceful location, which is how he ends up in Gangwon-do and falls in love with the heroine.
Director Choi Jin-sung previously did Erotic Chaos Boy and Hitchhiking. Both reportedly garnered some positive reviews but weren’t big projects so it’s hard to gauge based on them, but I do like the atmosphere that’s described, both moody and eerie. If the mysterious vibe is well played, it could make for a really interesting movie.
Girl will begin filming this month.

I'm not a fan consider her caracter in Heartstrings and FBND. But I found her refreshing in Lee Ji Hoon and Kim So Roo movie called Fortune Teller aka Ghost Sweeper. She played as fortune teller there, and i thought she kinda oke there. So now I realize that its not her that i dont like but her bratty character that i dont like.
I Guess I'll give a chance for this drama. The idea sounds fresh and the story might be exiting to watch. So why not ^^

I agree with you. I watched Heartstrings again this week and found her bratty-sharp-stares-primadonna character "charming". There's a cene where she was crying in the courtyard (after she won the audition) and thought, "Aww, it's OK don't cry."
Anyways, I still haven't seen any of her latest movies so off I go to check it out.
:D

I don't think she's a good actress. She has a very unique face that unfortunately seems to emote only grumpiness. :/

This is a random question, but I've been dying to watch Fortune Tellers/Ghost Sweepers, but I can't find it anywhere with English subs. T_T Can anyone direct me to somewhere that has it please?

I just wish she'd gain some weight. Each time I see her, all I can think is "that's NOT healthy."

So just because she's skinny you're saying she isn't healthy? I'm skinny too and well i'm healthy. No matter how much you eat you don't gain weight fast ->high metabolism

no, I'm not saying because you're skinny you're not healthy. I'm saying that she, in particular, is so skinny that when I see her I reflexively think that she looks unhealthy. That's all. Perhaps she has a super high metabolism, and is naturally that skinny. Notice that I didn't say "hey! gain weight." Not all my wishes come true anyway :-)

Watch her in Flower Boy Next Door then, she's gained some weight and looks MUCH prettier as a result.
(and to be fair to her, her character in YFFM was supposed to have an eating disorder so at least her look fit the part)

I wish for once she would smile and not act like a b***** and hopefully she would do this on her movie.

haha. i know. She's the only FBND character that i don't love or even like. This new drama sounds good. I like the story. The only other korean horror drama I've seen is White Christmas, (was that horror or suspense?) anyway, I loved that!
