Ad Genius assembles cast for poster shoot

I’m still on the fence about KBS’s new Monday-Tuesday drama Ad Genius Lee Tae-baek, not sure I’m completely onboard the success-story drama about a hard-working country fellow who comes to the big city and makes it, but for now it does have an appealing cast.

Here are the main leads in the poster shoots, shot this week in Seoul: Jin Gu (26 Years) as our titular hero, Park Ha-sun (High Kick 3) as his primary love interest and aspiring copywriter, Jo Hyun-jae as a cool-headed “elite” ad executive, and Han Chae-young as an ambitious businesswoman who threw away her past in her pursuit to become a top ad exec. With terrible taste in pants. Yeah, I know, it’s “chic.” It’s also pretty fugly.

This sort of sounds like it’s Baker King with a cast of their unnis and hyungs, but it sounds like Ad Genius is aiming for a brighter mood. Hopefully less birth secrets and angst, and a little more feel-good moments. Hey, happy times can be dramatically interesting too!

The drama has also lined up a pretty solid group of veteran supporting actors, pictured at bottom: Bang Eun-hee (Life Is Beautiful, All My Love), Hong Ji-min (Golden Time), Go Chang-seok (Gone With the Wind), Shin Seung-hwan (Jeon Woo-chi), and Kwak Hee-sung (Hanbando).

I’ve seen most of them in action and they’ve got comic chops, so I can see how they’ll fit in. Hong Ji-min has a big personality and a dynamic presence, so she ought to be memorable as the creative director of an ad company whose current creative block has driven her to hysterics. Then there’s the ad producer played by Shin Seung-hwan, who has learned the art of covering up for his lack of skill with a glib tongue.

Go Chang-seok, who’s such a big teddy bear of an ajusshi, plays the president of a tiny shop and is named Ma Jin-ga. HA, are we going to get a bunch of Mazinger puns? He’s the father to Kwak Hee-sung, whose character is named Ma Yi-chan… and I dearly hope we get some My Chan jokes in there too. They’re right there! It’s practically mandatory.

Last but not least, Bang Eun-hee plays Park Ha-sun’s aunt, who’s hot-tempered and devoted to her niece, ready to do anything for her if necessary.

Ad Genius Lee Tae-baek replaces KBS’s current Monday-Tuesday show, School 2013, in February.

yeah! i miss them jaehee and chaeyoung being on screen together (and of course the police daddd), one of the best drama couples ever!!!

and wow, look at all those intriguing shoes! i hope to see more of them in the show, so i'll probably watch it even only for the sake of seeing the shoes collection.

Hi, pipit! Maybe they'll do what Queen of Reversals did and elevate the second lead to main lead. I remember everyone was rooting for PSH back then and who knows, our Kang-ah may become so popular he'd go from Top Dog to Underdog, and take over the lead.....well, I can dream, can't I?

Jo Hyun Jae not getting the leading role is already strange, but now they are going to make him an antagonist one too?

Personally, I think by putting bigger names as second leads Ad Genius will give equal screen time, interesting stories and characters to both the leads and second leads. I also think that in this drama all the main characters will be likable (we won't be having an urge to kill both second leads).

If they are going to make Jo Hyun Jae an antagonis character I'm hoping that he would be an undercover fairy god father to the male lead. Showing his polish calculating facade to the world but once he sees this genius young struggling up-start with his idealistic views instead of pulling him under water he'll smooth the path for the male lead to the climb up the ladder without none the wiser. Thus we could still go ga ga at our Kang Ah.

Ikr!! That's frustrating!! Isn't he the obvious bigger star here?? maybe I don't know about that Jin gu guy or his movie/drama/whatever. But he must in the level of Lee Byung Hun or WonBin to make JHJ the second lead.....

I think it is just the promotional strategy to make the drama get more attention. you know,making the bigger names play second leads .
At first,I'm confused when Han Chae Young is cast as second lead next to Park Ha sun. I mean,I wouldn't be ok in a normal way even if HCY is cast as second to Song-Hye-Gyo,Kim-Tae-Hee or Jeon-do-yeon. But,I thought that it's just the special guest star cameo-ish thing like HCY in Boys over flower or Lee Minki in Shut up,flower boy band.
Then,BAM!! Jo Hyun Jae is the second male lead!! I'm like "ok,that's it! it's the obvious attention-inducing style of position-casting".

I have nothing against HCY. I don't think she is plastic or whatever, but i do think the way she is styled here she comes off as too sophisticated for my Kang ah, even if Kang ah is looking sharp in that suit.

there seems to be a hard glitter in HCY in those photos even when she is smiling. maybe that is how her character is supposed to be?

I have to agree with you, Kang ah and Park Ha Sun look good together.

Maybe there will be some musical chairs later?
