Yeo Jin-gu offered starring role in film

Aw, is someone growing up before our very eyes? Fifteen-year old child actor Yeo Jin-gu (I Miss You, The Moon That Embraces the Sun) has made quite the name for himself playing the younger versions of dramaland’s hottest stars (seriously, he’s been the young counterpart to seemingly every leading man out there). But it looks like he might be graduating into a headliner — he’s been offered the title role in a new action thriller movie called Hwa-yi.

He’s still considering the role, so apparently graduating to starring roles comes with press-tease “considering favorably” announcements as well. He’s up for the titular character Hwa-yi, opposite the fantastic Kim Yoon-seok (Thieves, Wandeuki, pictured below). Also considering is Jo Jin-woong (Suspect X).

It’s the latest project from director Jang Joon-hwan, of Hair, Save the Green Planet!, When Winter Screams, and it takes place in the underground, and will be the story of a young man’s revenge against the “fathers” who raised him. The quotes aren’t mine, so I can only guess they mean mobster father-figure types. Kim Yoon-seok and Jo Jin-woong will play the “dads” against whom Hwa-yi will exact his revenge, uncovering a twisted conspiracy behind it all.

All quite vague, but it’s an great lineup. I just hope there isn’t an older version of the hero to pop up suddenly, because Yeo Jin-gu has certainly earned his chance in the spotlight. He’s so expressive and talented that he (and his cohorts like Kim So-hyun and Kim Yoo-jung) are threatening to outshine their adult counterparts, and some would argue they already did in Moon/Sun. I’m excited to start seeing this new generation of talent take to the big screen and stretch their wings.

Hwa-yi is planning for a 2013 release.

Yeo Jin-gu is an amazing young talent. I''ve been saying that the only reason he is not taking a lead role yet is because of his age.

It will be a good movie for him to learn from respected sunbaes.
I really like him ( and Kim Yoo jung, I hope they'll cast together again one day ), and wish him all the best. He has real talents!

He is a bonafide prodigy. Kinda like Dakota Fanning at a young age. Many a sunbae can't hold a candle to his acting.
So glad he is offered his own film. Hope he headlines a drama soon.

I'm just so happy to see that the sweet little boy in "Sad Movie," from what seems like many years ago, is growing up to be an actor with immense potential. I feel like a proud mama lol

It's not everyday that a child star can transition so well to the next stage of their acting careers. The last few young actors who were able to pull that off were Jang Geunsuk (pre-Hallyu fame) and Yoo Seungho.

I'm excited to see Yeo Jingu grow up and improve even more as an actor. :)

aish, as much as I love him (and God knows how much I adore him!! my beloved devil-may-care little Gangmo-ya!!), this news have me feeling nervous. although I love him in moon sun, i think since moonsun he just overdid himself. I just scared that he'd destroy himself in the premature fame & pressure.
please, please, jin gu ya, please consider your project very carefully. only if the project make a good for your growth as an actor, should you accept it. dont rush things, please take your time and mature your acting naturally to reach your fullest potential. hollywood has lost too many great potential teens actor, who cant survive because they rushed things. you got so much on your pocket kid, dont destroy that.

I agree that he should be careful and choose wisely.
I think this project falls into the smart choice category.
Good director, good script - very very dark - and great cast.
Plus, films usually are less rigorous than dramas that could last months.

He needs a director that can work on his restraint.
The Moon/Sun role was really well done.
WBDS, he had to play over the top.

I see him struggling a little in Missing You, especially since his female costar is UNBELIEVABLY fantastic. He doesn't seem to know what to do with his face.

He is beautiful.

I know, I love him and the praise he is getting for IMY is fully deserved, but Kim So-hyun is even younger (THIRTEEN! And hopefully going to graduate someday to a long and successful career as a leading lady in her own right) and so good.

She has done a lot of younger versions, too. There are 14 (!) dramas on her dwiki resume. I just noticed I watched most of them, too.
It pays to play the "bad guy," as she did in Moon/Sun.
It won't get you all the photoshoots, but it wins the respect of the players in the industry. Long term, that is what matters.

OMG!!!
I'm so happy for him!!! And he deserves it!!!!
I'm sorry to say, but in my opinion he outshined Kim Soo Hyun. Moon and Sun was amazing coz of the child actors that they were the only episodes I replayed.
Someone mention JGS, I'm not hating, but he seriously only got famous coz of his looks. His acting is so-so. Jin Goo and Seung Ho, and not to forget Lee Hyun Woo all have so much potential. And of course Kim Yoo Jung!

I have to agree. He was the best thing about Moon Sun. KSH did well , I cant deny that but Yeo Jin-gu made Hwon memorable.

They so outshined their adult counterparts in Moon & Sun. The only one that was great despite the absolute boringness of the thing was Kim Soo Hyun. It very simple, first 6 episodes : you think Moon&Sun is the future best drama ever. after the 7, you just can't believe it's the same drama... and at the episode 19, you're really wondering if you're gonna continue the torture until the end or stop before it's too late.
They were incredible in it, I really feel they earned their new fame.
But Yeo Jin Gu and Kim Yoo Jun are gold. This guy is SO expressive, he is like my next Yoo Seung Ho ^^ Seriously, wa have these last years new really great actors but he is a new kind because he is SO young !

I hope he'll accept. I already regret the parting in I Miss You, and it the first time since Will It Snow for Christmas? with a teen Kim Soo Hyun, and Moon&Sun ...

Lol, Kim Soo Hyun's acting was far, far from 'boring' in TMTETS. He was tremendous in the breakdowns he had to navigate his character through, and was a huge factor in the ratings that continued to be high even after the child actors left.

Yeo Jin Gu will be a powerhouse, but let's calm down people, he still has lots of subtlety to learn in his acting.

Hopefully, if he takes the role, it'll let him grow and expand more as an actor. Kim Yoon-seok (I lub you!) is awesome and seems to be churning out hits after hits, so if Yeo accepts, he'll at least be expanding his networks and working with a fantastic senior. Plus, if Jo Jin-woong (so amazing) says yes, then the cast sounds pretty awesome.

He is truly gifted. I think it's going to be obvious to all of us that in 10 years time he's going to be the actor of our generation along with Yoo Seung Ho.
But as of now, I'm just loving how he's all these dramas he's being paired up with co-stars he's already worked with. Hopefully they all become a close-knit powerhouse in the future.
But he should take this role, while he's so young he should absorb all the experience from his sunbaes.

Yeo Jing Gu can totally weep and cry and make the audience feel for him. But in other scenes which doesn't require him to cry, I feel like he doesn't quite grab your attention or emote as well as the praises he's getting. But he's young and he's got lots of years more to learn.

Also, director Jang Joon Hwan is amazing in his own right and gained alot of favorable reviews for Save the Green Planet but he does miss the mark in his directing sometimes. Eg. Camelia (omnibus film).

Anyhow, starring alongside Kim Yoon Seok is a marvelous opportunity by itself so yeah, this is a good chance for YJG to learn from his sunbae and shine. And i'm always up for a thriller/revenge film!

Have you seen ep 2 of Missing You, where he is with his new friend girl, where his expression changes every 2 seconds? Each one reflects the changing thoughts and confusing new feelings of the boy on the threshold of the gateway peering into adulthood.

I hope that he will definitely confirm this movie, of course. ;)

You can watch Yeo Jing Gu and Kim Soo Hyun in Giant together as brothers during the childhood part ep1-?, and they are BOTH GREAT, but Yeo Jing Gu is just pure awesomeness, that is where I fell for this little boy.

Yeo Jin Gu (gulp. 1997??) is very expressive, and has good potential. Heck, I was planning on avoiding I Miss You from all the melodrama until I jumped into episode 2 from curiosity. I ended up watching just for the kids. I love the adult leads but this is one drama I want to set aside, as I'm not feeling tragedy at the moment.
