Kim Rae-won in My Little Hero

This movie has feel-good written all over it. I’m in. Kim Rae-won (Thousand Day Promise) stars in the new film My Little Hero, as a third-rate music director who’s all but washed up, when he meets a young boy so talented it turns both their lives around. You just can’t go wrong with an underdog story like this, can you? And well, if it’s not up to snuff, I’ll just re-watch Billy Elliot and call it a day.

It’ll be Kim Rae-won’s first movie since Insadong Scandal and army duty, and a great chance for us to see him at his best — warm, good-hearted — even if it’s under a layer of loser. The little boy is newcomer Ji Dae-han, a bright young face who stood out in nationwide open auditions for the role.

Kim Rae-won’s character will be an all-talk, no-action musical director who enters a reality audition program as a final means to get his career out of the gutter. It’s a show that pairs a director with a child talent, and the selection process is blind. He gets partnered with a boy who doesn’t have the looks, the training, or anything that would make him a star, and the two embark on the uphill battle to win, changing both their lives in the process. Cue inspirational music here.

Directing is newcomer Kim Sung-hoon, and the supporting cast includes Lee Sung-min (Golden Time) and Lee Kwang-soo (Nice Guy) for Team Underdog (complete with matching team shirts, aw). I love it — a little odd family band of musical brothers. What could be cuter?

My Little Hero hits theaters in January 2013.

Hmm.. I can't see the child actor in any of the pictures. Was just hoping to get a glance at a future star. I'm always super impressed by newcomers who beat the odds in a nationwide audition. Hopefully I'll remember to check it out when it comes out with subtitles.

the boy's name is ji daehan. his dad is korean and his mom is sri lankan.

he will be playing a korean-filipino boy in the movie .

Looks good! I like under dog stories and Kim Rae won. It is hard to see child actor's face.

How good it will be to see KRW again? I have a feeling he is going to show lots of warmth in this role, which nobody does better. Also, I am optimistic about his interactions with the child-actor.

No, it isn't. His superpower isn't hotness, there are actors hotter than him. But still, whenever he's on screen, one can't help but believe him. And that is his ultra-hyper-super-duper-power. That is NOT to say, he isn't attractive in his own way. He totally is :)

I guess a blind person would have trouble being a musical director, who cares not only for the music part but also movement on stage. I don't want to discriminate against blind people, they are often wonderful musicians, but they couldn't manage the visuals on their own.

I've seen an article, were the word "blind" was used in a different context: the child actor was chosen in a "blind" audition: where the jury didn't know who he were (background, etc) or what he looked like, they only judged his musical talent. That would make more sense than the first version, wouldn't it?

Yes, I like the new 'blind' much better. It was just awhile ago when they announced the movie with a different name and a slightly different plot. The thought that this the SECOND movie with KRW in just a year is awesome. LOL

Has anyone notice cute Kwangsoo is bombarded with acting offers lately!!
I've been liking Kim Rae Won ever since I saw Which Start Did You Come From. I don't know why but I like his acting style as well as Lee Seo Kyun's. I notice acting style similarities between KRW and LSK, I just can't figure out what it is.

Lately am getting attached to the likes of Lee Kwang Soo and Song Joong Gi and its scaring me cuz i know millitary duty awaits! Running Man without giraffe? Unthinkable :( Hopefully it runs for a loong time so he can rejoin like Haha did for IC...
