New weekend rom-com My Love, Madame Butterfly

Rawr. Well don’t they make a nice pair. Here’s a sneak peek at the new weekend drama My Love, Madame Butterfly set to premiere this Saturday. Yeom Jung-ah (Royal Family) stars as Nam Nabi [nabi = butterfly, hence the puntastic title], a has-been diva actress who still has the ‘tude, but not so much the star power to back it up. The drama starts as she embarks on a new phase of her life after fame, fortune, and anti-fans: marriage. Kim Sung-soo (Suspicious Family, Bad Love) plays her tall dark and handsome husband, and also the source where all her troubles begin.
Nabi’s character is as foul-mouthed and foul-tempered as starlets come, and is more famous for her fashion sense than for her onscreen talent. In fact, she’s known for her particularly bad acting, illustrated by the hilarious collection of stills down below of Nabi playing all sorts of different drama characters all with the exact same facial expression. It’s extra funny because Yeom Jung-ah, of course, is friggin’ amazing. And it’s also just apt meta for a dramaland littered with inverse fame-to-talent ratios. I love the idea of Yeom Jung-ah playing a terrible actress, with a planetary ego to go with.
Kim Sung-soo plays her suave businessman hubby, a character shrouded in some mystery. Either he does something wrong right away, or pulls some kind of con (Or perhaps the marriage itself is one?), because the plot centers around how Nabi’s life starts to go haywire the second she marries him. And then there’s Park Yong-woo (Jejoongwon) who shows up in her life at just the right time, as the white knight. Hm, interesting.
She also has a rival in second lead Yoon Se-ah (A Gentleman’s Dignity), a shoe designer, and also Park Yong-woo’s ex-wife. It sounds like a complicated love square, but it’s definitely in rom-com funny hijinks territory in tone, so I think we’re in for funny twists on the melo setup.
The 50-episode weekend drama will be helmed by PD Lee Chang-min (Bride of the Sun), who was second PD on Midas and Giant, and penned by writer Moon Eun-ah (Smile Donghae). Given the big cast and the length, it looks like they’re trying to inject some rom-com miniseries flair into the longer family weekend drama. The trailer tells me Yeom Jung-ah is ready to mess herself up epically for laughs, which means I have another premiere to add to my ever-growing to-watch list.
My Love, Madame Butterfly premieres this Saturday on SBS.

It took me 5mins to finally click who the actress was, the mum from A Tale Of Two Sisters - no wonder why I was getting bad vibes off from her LOL. Sadly haven't seen her in anything else but from the premise of this drama/the teaser it looks like fun & I adore Kim Sung Soo since Full House as well as a co-host on Win Win. Just might end up checking this out.

Episode 1 already throws in a tired mother-looking-for-long-lost-son plot, and guess who that prodigal son might be? This drama does not seem very promising.
I think 50 episodes are way too many, and it might follow the humiliating fate that befell on another 50-now-cut-down-to-40-episode drama. For the life of me, I can't recall the exact title of it - was it something like Delicious Life?

that guy - I watched as he bounced the STUFFING out of a girl for pretty much an entire movie - the name of which escapes me - hot does not begin to describe the destruction of Pompeii levels of heat he generates

Yep, movie was Sweet Sex and Love. And Kim Sung-soo was amazing, especially the scene in front of the refrigerator. Couldn't tell you a thing about the story though ;-)

Kim Sung-soo and Oh Ji-ho are about as close as you get to physical perfection face-wise (Jin Jin-hee would be close behind).
Jang Don-gun, Lee Byung-heon, etc. - not even close.
Btw, Park Yong-woo starred in a gem of a black comedy ("My Scary Girl").

OMG... the only thing that registered on my mind was Kim Sung Soo... I like him in Full House. All I can remember was how kind he was when we met him at Marina Bay Sands. Eventhough it was midnight (and he may be tired from MAMA) he signed some autographs and he let us photograph him. Nice guy. and I might sneak a peek on this drama because of him. ^^

It really does look fabulous with the cast and set-up and everyone's attitude.
But 50? Weekend? I am afraid nobody will sub this for a long long time.
This is my chart of how interested I am in long dramas over time. It starts out good, weakens a bit, totally numbscull bores me out, but gets better right before it ends.

I just finished watching "You Who Rolled In Unexpectedly" and that was 58 eps. It was a fun, fabulous watch and the subbers kept up with it quite well. Am hoping that subbers will pick this one up, too.
Loved Yoon Se-ah in AGD - she can really play the bitch. She's totally sweet and funny on WGM - you can tell she appreciates her young, hot 'husband'.

Kim Sung Soo and Yeom Jung Ah are pairing up again!!! Yay! They were fantastic in Say You Love Me way back when (2004 apparently). It was the first time I saw those two plus Kim Rae Won and Yoon So Yi.

Park Yong-woo!! I'm so glad you are back in another drama, but why this one? I hope this turns out to be funny and toned down on the makjang and any over the top acting.
I love that I get to see PYW for fifty episodes, so I really hope this is, for the most part, decent. If it isn't, I guess it'll be a good excuse for me to rewatch Jejoongwon. It's already been two years, but the power that word has on my soul... Hwang Jung!!

For some reason Kim Sung Soo really reminds me of Daniel Henney but a much better actor.

PSY... again. I saw a concert vid from SK where he sang for a crowd of 80,000! Thats just nerve racking. But back to the drama lol. So, It looks interesting but I don't know if I could stick around for 50 eps. Guess it'll have to be freaking hilarious premiere to get me hooked.

Am on episode 2. A bit confused - why was the picture of the husband of the female lead being mourned over in Episode 2? And by someone who knows the female lead.

I came to know the lead actor Park yong woo after watching My love Madamme butterfly and fell in love with him he's a good and natural actor. Google and found him acting in historical Joseon drama Jejoongwon and has very good review, just finished watching Jejoongwon his acting is so amazing.
I does not like the lead actress My love Madamme butterfly her whole face is so fake and she's looks so old and overacted. I came to know her from Kdrama Royal family I always considered this actress face very weird.
