Joo-won’s dapper photo shoot for Arena

Why hello there, hot stuff. Joo-won is in an upcoming spread for Arena Homme Plus magazine, and he’s looking dashing and debonair. Definitely my preferred version of Joo-won, aegyo adorability notwithstanding. It’s just awkward drooling over a guy who looks 26 and acts 5. At least in these photos, I can pretend he isn’t the guy who freaks out over moths, or bees.
There’s also an interview in the magazine, where he admits to not really paying much attention to fashions. He has read comments online about how he’s perhaps not a good dresser since he’s seen wearing lots of casualwear and sweats (what, like he’s gonna dress up fancy-like for 1N2D?), and said, “If I start thinking about styling and everything, I feel like my head will burst.” Ha. It’s okay, honey. That’s what coordi-noonas are there for.
Joo-won was also asked about his pattern of picking intense characters (as we saw in Gaksital and Baker King Kim Tak-gu). He says he’s “currently in the process of leaving the role of [Gaksital’s] Lee Kang-to behind for my next project,” which will be the rom-com secret-agent series Secret Agent War. That drama should be a hoot as the main couple have a Mr. and Mrs. Smith-like exchange of hiding their spy identities from each other (while on the job on opposing sides). Just… as long as they cast a good heroine. I’m just crossing my fingers they pick someone other than Choi Kang-hee. She’s not bad, but the thought of them together just makes me seize up and reject the idea. Is there some kind of rain dance or deity I can appeal to?
Secret Agent War is in pre-production and is currently casting its female lead. It aims to premiere in January 2013. Joo-won’s interview and photo spread for Arena will be in its November issue.

Haha, I love the term "cordi-noonas". And Joo Won...I think there is this misconception that ALL good looking guys know how to dress...but, they don't really.
I'm with him, I just put on whatever is sticking out the most in my closet that day. It's not like there is much color variety either, so I usually match LOL

Oh thank god I'm not the one who think Choi Kang Hee is an awful choice.
When the news were released I thought of a word "cougar".
He said in the interview that his character will the same age as him, so if they cast CKH we're having another noona... No, not noona, but ajumma romance.

THIS. I will never understand why kdramas constantly cast older actresses with younger dudes, when there are fully capable, age-appropriate actresses out there. I have nothing against CKH - loved her in Protect the Boss. But I think someone like Im Joo Eun would have kicked ass in such a role.
I don't know what is up with new drama casting these days.. so many potentially weird/awesome pairings. I kind of like it hehe

I think part of the reason is due to the mandatory military service that actors need to do. I think JB mentioned it in her previous post about CKH's potential casting.

I actually like the kdrama concept, since it's the total opposite of the American entertainment concept, which is to constantly cast younger actresses with older men when perfectly capable older actresses are available. I sometimes need a reprieve from that. It would be better if it were more balanced out, but until then...

HA! Here in the Philippines, they usually cast a younger actress as a female lead for an older actor (ex. a 40-something actor with a 20-something actress).

remember the days when action movies were the "in" thing? sobrang daming oldies na ang leading lady/ies ay sobrang babata. think of all the leading ladies of FPJ and Manoy. i was actually hoping the series "hello, my teacher" with gong yoo would be shown here untill i realized that our country is not into may-december and worse student-teacher love affair ^___^

Ditto!! I love CKH (she is so quirky and unique) but did not see the chemistry with Joo won.
I duno why, but scratching my head for an actress, I came up with Kim Ah joong, who I believe is older(?) but would have great chemistry with him IMO. For this role, they need to go for more sexy/tall girl to fit the tough character as a spy.

Ooo, I like these photos. Simple and classy is the way to go. And yes, cordi-noonas solve everything.
And I'm really looking forward to his new drama because I really want to see him do romcom. Except....not with Choi Kang-hee, who I've never particularly warmed to and would definitely not in this project where she actually looks like his aunt.
Actually, I was sort of wishing they'd cast Han Hyo-joo. She's been caught up in Chungmuro lately, but I'd love to see her back on the small screen. Especially in something zippy and fun unlike her usual choices (Spring Waltz, Iljimae, Dong Yi, etc.). Also, she's age appropriate.

actually, I much prefer him in 1N2D outfits being pouty and cute. and why haven´t we seen um... never mind. *just imagines the tie being thrown away carelessly.... thats right....keep stripping...*

HCA would be really great but now that she is filming Oohlala Spouses, I think it's not possible anymore :(
Whoever is the lead actress, I just hope the chemistry is there and the script is good.. Let's wait and see :)

And here I thought I was the only one thinking the EXACT SAME THING!! Hahaha!!! I don't dislike Choi Kang Hee personally but as Joo Won's counterpart in a 2-married-to-each-other-spies-in-disguise drama? Absolutely NOT!! Arrrggghhh.... Is there no other worthy female actress in the whole of Korea, who is yummy-looking, can kick ass and is YOUNG in age and looks to compliment Joo Won's youthful looks??

And yes some of your 1N2D outfits were truly bad.I will watch you in any drama but the thought of you kissing Choi Kang Hee is truly a nightmarish thought.Even though I actually like her personality.She is just not possible to imagine as your same age love.

I love Joo Won regardless of what he wears. His closet doesn't depict his acting skills. I am on my knees begging that they switch the lead actress!! i want this drama to be a huge success. it may or may not with the lead.

I also believe that whoever they cast as a female lead, this drama will be a success as long as the story is good. Gaksital has already proven that.

I wouldn't care about CKH's age if she could pull it off. But as it is, I don't think they'd have the chemistry we need. Isn't that like the number 1 thing a rom com needs?
Like Ha Ji Won was older but who even noticed in K2H?
I really really liked the movie version of this and I want to see Joo Won do a good job here. It's going to be tough if your lead actress just isn't up to par.

Can someone who can swashbuckle with so much aggressiveness & kiss & cry with such tenderness in Gaksital really have a 5year old's personality ?
He sleeps like a baby , he squirms like a lil' kid & he's all huggy in his 6-footer glory.
I'm half expecting him to change personas , like some scary multi-personality dude ...like, drag out a ciggy & snarl a little under his breath ,when the director shouts " Cut!" . Sorry , blame it on my other talkin' talkin' brain. But , I am drawn to Joo Won cos I do like him in Gaksital & i'll continue watching him in other dramas. At the same time ,whenever I see him, I'll continue curiously wondering who JW really is.hmmmm.
