Lee Ki-woo turns cold and chic for fashion spread

Pretty. Lee Ki-woo is a nice-lookin’ man to begin with, but he’s looking sharper than usual in this new photo spread for some fashion magazine I’ve never heard of called The First Class. He’s tailored and chic as a “European style chado-nam [cold city man],” just lounging around and looking fine.
I do sort of want to slap the lighting director, though, in trying for shadowy mystique and giving us a big blob of darkness instead. Concept good, execution not so good. How about we actually SEE the pretty man’s pretty face, huh? Half the shoot makes me want to tilt my computer screen back to catch more light.
Sadly, my affection for Lee Ki-woo is a bit on the wane these days, which I hope is a temporary thing purely due to his Standby character, who’s boring me. Funny how Lee first showed up on my radar as the bland second lead with potential, then shot up to love with his hilariously lazy chef character in Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, and then maintained that charm through the first stretch of Standby… and then took a big nosedive. The perils of going for too perfect, and ending up a Ken doll instead — nothing wrong with him, but he’s kinda stiff. (For more details, we discuss that whole shebang in Podcast #13.)
Still, there are upsides. Such as:
…although admittedly, these days all my Standby love is reserved for Ha Suk-jin. SUCH a great character with so many quirks, who makes Ki-woo (the character, I mean) seem even duller by comparison.

I do agree that the lighting is too dark and I find it interesting how sunken his cheeks look. It makes me wonder if he actually currently looks like that or if that result was achieved with make-up and lighting. In the first picture, I can see them going for the whole Adonis/sculptured face kind of look and I can see that look working as a whole.
I personally prefer him with his cheeks a little fuller.

javabeans, you pointed out the exact thing that I felt for Suk Jin and Ki Woo (the characters)! I cannot help but root for Suk Jin, despite he being the more petty and insecure, but also more humanistic than Ki Woo.

As boring as the drama is, the characterizations kind of remind me of the movie Lost and Found with Jo Han Sun.
Lee Ki Woo didnt impress me in that movie either despite how seemingly perfect the character was supposed to be... :/ Eh. Pretty though!

Oh, Lee Ki-woo, if only I still found you at all interesting...
I think I'm conflating Ki-woo the actor with Ki-woo the character (in Standby) and after 90+ episodes of the show, I... hm, it's not even that I dislike him; it's more that I now feel completely indifferent towards him. In some ways, disliking him would be better, because at least that indicates some level of feeling, even if it is negative.
Anyway, at least he's still pretty. *g*

I loved him in Flower Boy Raymun Shop too! If someone as sexy as Lee Ki-woon appeared at my house saying that he's my husband, instead of freaking out like the girl lead in the show, I would just grab him and rush him to the nearest place where I could make it official!
These pictures are love....but I think I still like him better in the drama rift after the shower scene ;)

Haha the lighting is too dark. Seems like they were trying to focus more on the clothes. Makes sense since it's a fashion magazine, but you could of gotten any model for that. o.o;
Shame about Standby, I think Lee Ki Woo can be really funny when you allow him to be.

i have no problem with the lighting. I think it creates the right amount of mystery. Besides, it emphasizes the chiseled features well with that kind of light.

Also, inadvertently or not, it gives focus to the clothes a.k.a the fashion, which is what I would want the reader to really look at if I were the designer. hehe.
