Gender-bendy hijinks from Oohlala Spouses

Okay, this drama’s already got a laugh from me, and it hasn’t even begun. If this is the result of a husband and wife swapping bodies, I’m all for the shenanigans. A peek at the poster shoot for new romantic comedy Oohlala Spouses shows wife-in-husband’s-body getting a smooch from another man. Either that, or the bromance on this show’s gonna be off the charts.
The drama stars Shin Hyun-joon (Gaksital) as a straight-laced traditional hubby and hotelier, and Kim Jung-eun (Hanbando, I Am Legend) as his perfect wife. Through the miracle of rom-com fairy dust, they end up in each other’s bodies, which you have to admit, should be a requirement for all couples. It might save tons in therapy bills.
The shoot features second lead Han Jae-seok (Merchant Kim Man-deok) laying a big kiss on Shin Hyun-joon. Shin tweeted the picture with the adorable message: “I thought doing Oohlala Spouses was going to be love love with Kim Jung-eun-sshi, but what is this. And Han Jae-seok-sshi, on days when we’re shooting scenes like this, please shave.” Han Jae-seok plays Shin Hyun-joon’s right-hand man at the hotel… who also happens to be Kim Jung-eun’s first love. Of course. If the poster is indication that he’ll know about the body swap but want to romance her anyway? That would crack me up.
Given the premise, the more traditional the couple is at the outset, the more fun we’ll have when things go belly-up, gender-wise. Both these actors are great at the comedy and the pathos, so I foresee a healthy dose of hilarity with heart. That is, if the writing capitalizes on the potential of the body swap premise. You’d think it’d be a gimme in Drama Writing 101, but as it turns out, body swaps (or perhaps all high-concept setups) can be a writer’s kryptonite. This drama will be penned by Choi Soon-shik, of Bad Couple and Please Come Back, Miss Soon-ae. Directing is PD Lee Jung-sub, of Baker King fame. It also stars Han Chae-ah (Gaksital reunion!), veteran actor Byun Hee-bong, Brown Eyed Girls’ Narsha, and Juni (I Am Legend reunion!).
Oohlala Spouses follows Haeundae Lovers and premieres in October on KBS.

Drama Writing 101 - If you use body swapping as a premise, go all the way and re-swap at the end. Viewers come and sign for this. :)

Actually I disagree. I would rather have a Secret Garden than BIG.
Having them periodically switch back would provide more comedy than repeating the same jokes by having them change at the end.

At first, I thought, "what has the Tom Hanks film got to do with this?" It took me a while to remember the recent catastrophe; it was so bad that I just erased it from my mind...
But THIS. This I'm looking forward to! I've hardly seen much of his works, but judging from everyone else's words, Shin Hyun-joon is going to be a real treat. Gaksital was sad. Stairway to Heaven was sad. I think he was even in this sad (and rather ridiculous) MV where he was blind? Bring on the laughter!

I am soooo looking forward to this. And I agree with Mysti's comment above. Please come full circle with the swap, the viewers are not stupid and would like something that makes sense, please (I would even say "pretty please" if that would make a difference).

Agreed, I hope they don't hold anything back. I want them to keep it real (although body swapping can never happen, but you know what i mean ^^)
I've though of so many scenarios this writer can write about with a theme like this. Lets hope we get some "A" list writing from start to finish!!

You are my twin when it comes to KJE! Can't stand her in Lovers in Paris, but love her in Lovers. Or is it the effect of the chemistry between KJE - Lee Seo Jin? Whatever, I just know I have goodwill towards her. On another note, I genuinely think she gets better with age.

agree w/ you. kje is the culprit of all the korean addiction im into now. though she's not remarkable in acting but there's something w/ her "x-factor" that attracts viewers unknowingly. i just simply love her.

Oh Shin Hyun-joon, you make me laugh so much. I'm really looking forward to this and hope the writing doesn't stink like last week's leftovers. The premise has so much potential as long as they focus on he right things instead of just using the body swap magic for a little bit of laughs and toss it out. Fingers crossed!

While I don't really like Kim Jung Eun (she tends to over acting, IMO ) but the male leads are love. I definitely will watch.

I can't WAIT!!!!!!!!!! I've been at Hancinema ever since the news break. I didn't really like SC or BIG so I'm hoping to finally get my fix of a body swapping drama. I hope the writers goes all out on this one, they are adults and married, honestly there should be no holding back. We have some "A" list actors and actresses we definitely need some "A" list writing!
I'm sooooooo excited for this!! This years seems to be a year full of comedy for me. hahaha ^^
premieres in October? WOW could this be my early B-Day gift? HOPE SO!!! ><

Nope... they never did. She mentioned that in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. In fact she was joking in that same interview, asking him to come and pay a visit on set, and she can give him a slap :)

*Signs* Another drama to add to my list. Does anyone know where I can buy some restaurant size Earl Gray tea leaves? A time-turner would be appreciated also, if you can get in touch with Hermione. If you find out, tell me: I'll be the Human Panda in the back of the room, fighting off sleep and rambling off names of shows I have to finish.
In all seriousness, I can't wait to see where they go with this drama. It's nice to see the actors having fun while doing the script-reading. Hopefully, I'll end up judging this drama on a scale of 1 to I Love Lee Tae-Ri, not little to BIG disappointment.
