Choi Siwon joins King of Dramas

Upcoming showbiz drama King of Dramas starring Kim Myung-min and Jung Ryeo-won has rounded out the main cast with Choi Siwon (Poseidon, Athena), who will be playing a Hallyu star. So… himself? Also, hasn’t he done that role before? Well if the character calls for prickly top star, I hope it’ll at least be a fun and funny over-the-top one, Dokko Jin style.
The drama from the PD behind Take Care of Us Captain and a writer from Korea’s Got Talent is a comedy about drama production, and of course has a drama-within-a-drama setup. Kim Myung-min plays the midas-touch producer who makes hits and cares only about money. Jung Ryeo-won is the idealistic writer who wants her dramas to say something. They already have a contentious past and hate each other, but have to put that aside to work on making a new hit show.
Enter troublemaker top star played by Choi Siwon, who’s been acknowledged for his good looks and even his acting skills, but is more famous for his assy behind-the-scenes personality. Apparently he’s so unable to compromise with anyone on anything that he turns every drama set into a maelstrom. Oh man, he sounds like a nightmare. I hope they go completely outlandish with the diva behavior; the more the merrier with a character like this. Wouldn’t it be funny if every character he ever played ended up dead as a petty revenge, but he always just believed it was because he was especially good at melodramatic death scenes? Now I wonder if that’s true of any actor in real life…
Oh Ji-eun (Smile Donghae) plays his co-star in the drama within the drama, and her character is also a top star, but not quite such a diva. She’s got a love story with Kim Myung-min, as she sticks by the drama production that goes through some rough patches. Their relationship is described as a cute push-pull, hot-and-cold playful one. So Kim Myung-min and Jung Ryeo-won as the producer and writer who hate each other and bicker all day, and then the two stars who make their lives hell while also competing for their affections? Sounds like fairly standard rom-com stuff, so I hope that their take on the world of showbiz will be a fresh and interesting one.
King of Dramas follows Faith and premieres in November on SBS.

I actually agree with you on that one.. I didnt think about it till you mentioned it now.. based on this picture in this post, with the nice shiny outfit and hair all brought to the top, makes him A LOT like a real life Ken doll.

Praise Shisus for his new drama! Siwon is so easy on the eyes. :D Seeing him shirtless in real life (twice) just 5 feet away from me is seriously the highlights of my fangirl life.
I hope his role here is reminiscent of his role in "Oh My Lady" because his very expressive derpy faces is just so perfect for rom-coms.

Yep, sounds like he's playing himself (more or less) and he's already done that before. I actually find Siwon fairly decent (certainly better than some of his compadres) in acting, so I wish they (meaning writers and producers) would really dare to step out of their comfort zones and give him a meatier character but I suspect they would rather play it safe. Still, the man's easy on the eyes, and I can watch a lot of things with Jung Ryeo Won in it so...guess we will just have to see how this goes?

I thought the Great Seer was going to be following Faith ?. As for this drama, I want to check it out just finished re-watching MNIKSS a couple of days ago and thought to myself I want to see what other dramas JRW has acted in so this shall be added to my list.

That's what I thought too when I first heard this piece of news. Maybe it will air on Weds/Thurs instead or an earlier time slot? I don't know how the 8:55PM time slot works because the last drama to air on that time slot was last year. I just hope it isn't delayed because I was really looking forward to The Great Seer.

I haven't seen much growth in his acting abilities since his debut drama. Interesting, how some idol-turned-actors seem to continue to remain unscathed when they don't show any growth unlike others such as KHJ & LSG (i cringed reading many of the comments when he was cast opposite HJW).

I hope to see tons of ebhind the scenes by Jung Ryeo won and Siwon are extremely close. This is gonnabe great. I see my future self shipping siwon and ryeo won and not care about kim myung min tho i know how awesome he is.

Yey, Shibrows over the top, he won't have any problem there... Love Jung Ryeo Won in whatever she's in--great in rom com and drama. Oh Ji Eon was great in Three Brothers compared to Smile Donghae.. And the King !!! Can't wait to see this... Sounds like a lot of fun !!! Thanks

Well, Skip Beat WAS based on the anime (based on the manga PARTLY), so that was that. Unless Taiwan would want the sequel to follow the manga thread AFTER the anime.
Kind of like what would've happened if Goong 2 happened. There's the Queen having a baby, Shin & Chae-gyeon's divorce (it actually happened) and their post-divorce life, and Yool having a rabid girl following him.

Oh please, drama gods let this be a good drama for our Siwon-ie. The last 3 have been really awful (Athena, Poseidon, Skip Beat) and I've been waiting for a decent one, one that I could watch past episode 2, since OML.

**Sigh** I know that I am in the total minority here, but something about Siwon just irks me to no end. Just something about him, that when I see him, I want to punch him in the face. What's sad is that I can not figure out what the reason is. I watched him in Skip Beat (which I though he was pretty good in mainly because I think the character fit him well) and Oh My Lady, but usually, when I see him with SUJU in variety shows, I really want to reach through the screen and hit him.

uncornsgalaxy-You are not alone. I look at him and think, okay, he's not ugly, and I have no reason to think he's sketchy, but he makes me feel like I need to punch him in the throat and go wash my hands with bleach.
I'd like to clarify I am not a hater psycho who would actually do that lol.
That said, if the show seems funny or promising, I might watch, but I can't say the cast is my incentive.
