September magazines feature the two faces of Jung Yumi
by javabeans
Jung Yumi recently wrapped her cable drama I Need Romance 2012, and she’s also featured in two fashion magazines sporting vastly disparate styles. You wouldn’t necessarily think her a chameleon at first glance but she’s really got some range, whether we’re talking acting style or just her appearance.
The Nylon shoot taps into the side I associate more with her — quirky, cute, introspective. Who knows if she’s actually like that in person, but the impish oddball is the image I think of first, from roles like Que Sera Sera and The Great Gye Choon-bin. Given that, I was happy to see her change it up a bit with I Need Romance, although it’s her most commercial project and therefore tones down her endearing unpredictableness. But I love her, and commercially successful projects mean we’ll get to see more of her in the future, so it’s a win-win.
Then there’s the Cosmopolitan spread, which glams her up under the concept of “All we need is romance.” Yeah, I don’t get magazine concepts. You try so hard for the title-pun, but so little on the whole relevancy part. The shoot isn’t quite in tune with her image from I Need Romance, but it suits the feel of the modern-careerwoman-rom-com genre.
Both spreads are featured in the magazines’ September issues.

I like the Nylon shoot better too. :)
<3 that yellow jumper thing (I don't know what it is please-don't-kill-me but it's cute)

I love the yellow jumper, too! And the yellow/pink combination works surprisingly well, too. I'm definitely stealing this idea. :D

Cosmopolitan's 2nd last photo looks more like her (or her on-screen persona) must be the red beret. Overall i like Nylon's spread much better

I love the Nylon shoot (or, rather, my inner hipster loves it!) - the make-up is great and makes her look even younger. Not feeling the socks + heels combo, but that pink dress, or whatever it is, is lovely (and I think I've seen these shoes somewhere - Asos?).

Like the cosmo shoots better...because she's not that pretty but they managed to make her look kinda pretty with the makeup and stuff. The 1st cosmo photo doesn't look like her tho.

"not that pretty"?! Really? REALLY? *falls over in shock*
Jumg Yumi is one of the most beautiful human beings I've ever seen. She practically glows from within, even without makeup.
I guess it proves beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The fact that we see beauty differently makes the world more interesting. Also reduces fangirl fighting over oppas (just a bit).

Jung Yumi has what I like to refer as "quiet" beauty.
Her beauty doesn't hit you like say, Kim Ta-hee's, but it really grows on you and it absolutely shines when she smiles.
And the Nylon shots are better; too much heavy make-up in the Cosmo shots, esp. the last shot w/ gobs of mascara.

Quiet beauty is a perfect term for her.
She looks smart, bright, and intelligent. A tad quirky and a bit mischievous. She manages to have a huge presence even though she is tiny.
Her acting style is very natural, very French nouvelle vague, a Korean Audrey Tautou.
I'm not sure she is styled correctly in these shoots: the first shoot is trying to infantilize her, the second one to beauty-mainstream her.

Perfect example, because to me Kim Tae Hee looks a bit cross eyed, and yet to many others she's supposed to be the perfect face.

Don't really see the cross-eyed thing w/ KTH too much; her one flaw may be the way her chin looks when she does that dumbfounded expression.
As of Jung, she is a twig (even for K-actressed).
I know some people are just naturally really thin, but man, she is really thin (listed at not much more than 90 lbs - that's light enough for me to carry w/ one arm).

Totally true!! Her beauty grows on you the more you look at her. On a side note, I have a total girl crush on her personality from I Need Romance 2012. She was soo endearingly cute, in a such refreshing way!!!!

Love Love Love her! And I agree that the Nylon shoot is more fitting with the persona that I have in mind for her. She's just so adorable and cute.

I love her! She's beautiful and such a great actress (one of my faves). With that said, I don't really like either set.

I love her and just hearing her voice is recognizable to me at this point :)
I did like the picture with the roses - that's a very different look for her from what I'm used to. And the one with the bright red lipstick. I hope we see more of her, more often! There are so few women actors that I notice enough to really want to follow, apart from my girl crush Ha Ji Won. I need to remedy that.

I love her and think she's great. Just a big force in this seemingly small person. I think she looks great in both shoots, but, I too like the Nylon shoot more.
I feel like she is quirky in real life, maybe it doesn't stand out as much as with her roles of that nature though, like a quiet quirky-ness where you have to get to know her to see it.
Anyway, loving the modern flapper look. And the yellow sweater! I want it soooo bad D:

I'm glad I saw more of her in other less commercial works because I remain unimpressed with I Need Romance... She kind of ruined it for me.
The red lipstick is absolutely great on her. She's really stunning.

Looove Jung Yumi.
Was glad to see the more quirky/snarky and then the bright side to her in INR2012 as opposed to some of her more quiet roles.
INR2012 and the film "My Dear Desperado"/"My Ganster-type Lover" are my favorite performances by her.

She's got the kind of looks that you won't get tired/sick of. The photo with the balloons looked great, but her feet looked terrible! She should have shown the side (not top) of her feet when doing such poses. Nice photo wasted.

I saw her for the first time in I need romance. The first thought came into my mind was " what a pretty actress with a lovely smile" and wondered why I had never heard of or seen her before.
She has a very expressive face, can carry any look and leave you wanting to see her more. Frankly, I find her lovely in all the pics. Some of them are too small to make out her face or how she looks but just gives the impression of the whole getup. It does not give the feel of modelling but just someone taking pictures randomly. Wasted opportunity to come up with something striking.
