May Queen’s nautical-themed posters

Lots of new posters are out for May Queen, the new MBC weekend series that premieres this weekend in Dr. Jin’s newly vacated timeslot.
I still don’t quite get the story of this drama (they’ve been so vague about the actual plot), but the posters convey the tone I expected: large-scale, straight-up dramatic tension. The taglines fit that schema; the top poster reads, “A woman born through ambition, blossoming through dreams, embracing the sea.” Apt for a show following a woman’s success story in the shipping industry.
They sure aren’t skimping on the oceanic wordplay; another poster reads, “Crossing the sea of hardship, an incredible voyage begins, heading toward a dream.”
Another! “Fished out and raised up from of the end of ambition, the legend of a miraculous dream…”
And also: “Dreams, unfolding into the world, create success!” It’s practically fortune-cookie-ville.
Seriously, it’s like Taglines By Yoda. They sound sage and thoughtful, but you’re not quite sure what they mean. Basically: There are dreams, and successes, and watery metaphors galore.
I do appreciate how the poster above includes the drama’s child actors, who will have a good chunk of screentime in the early weeks. So often in dramas of this sort — the epic shows that cover generations, and use the childhood years as important establishing moments for the adult characters — the young cast carries the show and it’s nice to see that acknowledged up-front. It’s their emotions and struggles that engage our hearts to stick around for the adult storylines, so it’s only fair they get some serious recognition, right? (That isn’t to say they aren’t acknowledged by viewers; often they get heaped with lots of praise, as well they should. But they aren’t usually — or ever? — so prominently featured in promotional materials.)
The adult cast is headed by Han Ji-hye, Kim Jae-won, and Jae Hee (with a bevy of veterans making up the supporting cast). The younger counterparts are played by: Park Gun-tae as young Jae Hee (above left, aka young Jae-kang in The King 2 Hearts); Kim Yoo-jung, fast making a name for herself as a top child actress and playing young Han Ji-hye (The Moon That Embraces the Sun); and Park Ji-bin as young Kim Jae-won (Wish Upon a Star).
May Queen will air for 32 episodes and premieres on August 18.

All I understood from the promotional stills is that we'll be seeing a lot of Jae Hee glowering and an affable Kim Jae-won

and that tells me that since Jae won is smiling, he will get his heart broken and that the main lead man will actually be Jae Hee becuase they like to be not obvious but obvious in these promos.
NOOOOOOOOO (to my prediction that I hope won't be correct but feel it will be...)

Then you should give this drama a go. :D lots of surprises. I usually don't bother watching these type of dramas, but I really liked the main heroine's character. She's spunky, stands up for herself throughout the whole series, and never backs down. Girl can even fight, build ships, and has got a fiery spirit. And jae won's character can melt stone cold hearts. *sigh. :D But bring those tissues, especially for the first 10 episodes or so. The children cast will leave your heart yearning for more. :D

I don't know why but each time I see pictures about this drama, or read about this drama I feel bored to tears. I will wait for all the episodes to air before trying to watch it.

I don't care about anything else here: I see boats! Big, rusty and in ugly pics, but still: Boats!!! I want to see more about that industry and about ocean freight. I feel like a conquistador arriving in a new land. Ships builders are powerful chaebols in SK (with electronics and car companies). Nice to see something new.

OK, well. I like boats. I like harbors. They are very pretty at sunset.
I say this project sinks or swims depending on how much we like Han Ji-hye. Referring to the DB theorum of drama success, if we don't like the heroine, it will be a wreck.
She isn't warm and fuzzy. Her persona tends to be weighty. I don't know if all of these fine actresses are trying to repeat what Ko Hyun Jung did in Sandglass. You know - strong, driven and vulnerable at the same time. Someone who can stop you with a look, but you still want to put a jacket on her shoulders when she's sitting on a swing...
(Even if we like the heroine, it could stilll be a wreck, just one we enjoy watching as it sinks below our expectations.)

MAy Queen--- about Sea --depth of hardship,Fortunes of coral enclosed pearl,Wideview of ocean depicts Freedom or endless voyage towards dream..Also abrubt tribulations by ocean sea waves shows unstability of life And these character thriving foreward like the still but also running or moving with waves of choices they have to make..etc.Any ways it shows Comparision Between HuMan life And The Ocean..I think along with Romances,Archrival,frenship,heartbreaks,family ritual interferences,class-society difference,And more OceaN scenes with boats and all.Lets lay our eyes for couple of an episodes....

I have to say, I'm not at all impressed by these posters. It seems as if someone just took photos of the lead actors and pasted it over (low quality) pictures of some boats. Disappointed - especially as a graphic designer myself.
Well, the trailers look decent so far and I'm a bit sad that we'll have to wait 9 whole episodes before we see the adult cast in action. Last time, when I watched Can You Hear My Heart, we had to wait 5 episodes and I thought THAT was long, but 9 episodes...sigh...Kim Jae Won, I'm doing this all for you!

The drama - My Woman which is also about ship building conglomerate. The actor - go joo won.
I hope the storyline is not similar.

Very strange posters. The two male leads are glorified dramatically, but the female lead looks like a kindergarten teacher who got photo-shopped in by accident.
"Do we have a shot of our lead actress for the poster?"
"Not yet. Until we get one, use this picture of Miss Park from my kid's pre-school. She's kinda cute, isn't she?"

Let's just say an evil rich man, a poor innocent girl who blossoms while receiving the wrath of wrong doings but still pursues her dreams, and a love triangle that will leave you with puddles of tears. Oh yeah lots of idiotic family members and brainless people that work for the evil man. LD But, it's a fun, if not painful ride.

I think I'm gonna love this drama. I believe on drama that lack promo will kick high up. Rather than crazy promo and went down hill once it air.
People critic a drama based on poster or what so ever. But I will give my critics after 5-8 episode of a drama. A story will start to its core and plot development usually went crazy (in bad or good way) during this period. That's why I always give a chance to any drama that aired *lol ... well, exception is given if I hate the cast, Its a big no no from the beginning.

Aww, I just finished watching the first episode!! It was really good! I have trouble distinguishing some of the child actors lol they look soo similar except the boy with the really thick eyebrows... Hopefully, it will have a happy ending and not too much drama!!! Cant stand watching watching revenge drama where the avenger end up getting hurt !!!! HOPEFULLY THE RATINGS WILL BEAT FIVE FINGERS!!!

I watched this for Jae Won and Jae Hee, though the lead won me over; Han Ji Hye had terrific chemistry with them both, especially with adorable Jae Won. Such a cute couple, and I found the setting refreshing and interesting, and even with the extension (to 38 episodes) it didn't seem to drag overly much. And the last episode was perfection.
Plus, any drama that can cover that many episodes without resorting to faux!incest and terminal illnesses is a success in my book. I miss these characters already!
