Kim Dong-wook reports for duty
by girlfriday
The army calls and another one goes. 29-year old actor Kim Dong-wook met with the press outside the Nonsan training facility before beginning his military service today. He reports for basic training, after which he’ll serve in non-active duty for the police, mostly in publicity, doing public service work with the elderly and youth. It’s the same unit that actors like Ryu Soo-young and Jo Seung-woo served in. Kim was originally planning to report for duty right after filming The Royal Concubine with Jo Yeo-jung, but got into a car accident and had to wait to fully heal.
Kim Dong-wook began in movies, but made a name for himself after Coffee Prince, which is still to this day the character I see when I look at his face. I know, he’s not that little guy who ran around screaming, “My Chan, My Chan!” But I always just shout it when I see him. He went on to do Partner with Lee Dong-wook, and big family drama Dandelion Family, but overall has been more successful in cinema than he has in dramaland.
His notable films: Take Off, Romantic Heaven, Welcome Murderer, Cafe Seoul, and this year’s The Royal Concubine. He’s also a musical actor and did an album for the music drama Soul Special with Han Hyo-joo. He’s a great character actor, but hasn’t really had his big breakout role as a leading man. Hopefully something we’ll get to see when he’s back.
See you in two years!

It might just be the haircut, but it seems like he's gained a lot of weight since Coffee Prince! I didn't recognize him at all!

You're right! It does look like he bulked up. I dunno, he was cute before (like a puppy). I'll have to see a shower scene to assess the new look. ;)

I didn't recognize him either. And yes, he does look like he has gained some weight since his Coffee Prince days (and Partner days). He looks cute though... Short army hair looks good on him.

I had the same reaction whenever i saw his face, keep thinking of "my chan.. my chan.", then i went and saw The Royal Concubine, and just thought him as this force to be reckoned with, he's scary and good and has this powerful aura.

I, too, look at him from my coffee prince days. I'm not into movies (overall) as much as dramas so I haven't seen any of his work yet. I'll make a note to check out some of his films for a rainy day when I'm on a drama hiatus. :)

Take Off, the movie is great and he's so funny in that channeling part gigolo/casanova characters.

I love this kid.
He was in something I saw recently, but I don't recognize any of the films up there on Dramawiki...It was a detective movie, I thought.
Was I dreaming this?

I saw him first in Coffee Prince but it's for his role in No Regret (starring Kim Nam Gil) that I most remember him. He was such a kid then. He's all grown up now and off to the army!

Whoa he totally beefed up! I remember his hilarious character in Unstoppable Marriage and he's like twice the size now and looking much more manly.

yes his service sound just like the one Kim Jong-kook did, I just saw a youtube thingy with him talking about his army time, that sound just the same, helping the elderly. Celebs well never be put anywhere they may get hurt, by say the odd live firing that going on at times on the borders areas.
I bet it the same company the others served with.
