Han Chae-ah signs on to Oohlala Spouses
by javabeans
From deadly spy in love with the enemy to light-hearted rom-com? I suppose that’s one way for Han Chae-ah to leave her tragically conflicted character behind once her current drama Gaksital ends; she’s the newest addition to Oohlala Spouses, the upcoming KBS miniseries that stars Kim Jung-eun and Shin Hyun-joon as a body-swapped husband and wife pair.
That gives Han hardly any time to rest between the two projects, but striking while the iron’s hot is the name of the dramaland game, isn’t it? Thirty-year-old Han has been acting for about six years (past credits include Style, Neighbor Enemies, and OCN’s Hero), but Gaksital is the project that put her on the map, so she’ll be wanting to keep busy while she’s got the audience’s attention.
Han has already begun work on Oohlala Spouses, attending a script reading on August 27. It’s definitely not as tight a schedule as her co-star Jin Sae-yeon, who started filming Five Fingers (replacing Eunjung) while concurrently filming Gaksital, but that agenda still looks packed.
In Oohlala Spouses, Han Chae-ah plays Victoria Kim, a character who grew up abroad after being adopted to Sweden. She’s a woman harboring a “deep inner hurt” and a sad secret. Looks like she’ll have a romantic entanglement with Shin Hyun-joon… which gets confused once the spouses swap bodies. Hee.
Not much else is given about the role, other than that Victoria is a woman “shrouded in mystery.” Yeah, I can see Han fitting right in with that, given what she’s done with Rie/Lala/Hong-joo. I do think part of my Han Chae-ah appreciation is due to the way Rie is written in Gaksital — there’s something about her identity crisis, her deep insecurity, and her selfless love for Kang-to that completely wins me over — although I give her credit for standing up to what the role has asked of her. She’s not brilliant, but she probably is the most solid female actress in the cast (aside from guest appearances like comrade wife), and it’s enough to make me want to see more of her. Let’s hope she can keep improving from here.
Oohlala Spouses will follow Haeundae Lovers, KBS’s current Monday-Tuesday series. It premieres in October.

Well the female actresses are keeping busy.
I hope Joo Won takes a rest.
Am going to be watching this if only to see the husband separating the whites from the colours during laundry. Unless he's doing it the handwashing way... in the Korean winter :-)

I wanna see the husband playing the traditional daughter-in-law / wife / mother role. Then maybe he'll start appreciating what a lot of them have to put up with.
Of course, I'm expecting the wife post-body switch to learn to appreciate the husband too. =]
I know society's changed quite a bit, but a lot of "customs" and "traditions" regarding family life and the sexes still happen in many households. I wanna see married couples learn to appreciate each other by standing in each other's shoes is all I'm sayin'.

Awwww Ck10z,
You just made my day :-)! Thank you for your concern, I appreciate it. I am fine, thank you for asking. I have been up late since last week every night, not always functioning on many hours of sleep (sometimes 2 or 3) and having to take care of other things as well. I have also been communicating with both of my sisters (one of whom lives in Davis in Northern CA and the other one lives in France), so I had to give them my attention.
And then there this thing called life, you know... (I am sure you do :-)). I was actually up around 5am (my time and DB time) (I am usually up at that time) but I chose to not get to my computer right away. So I posted a message in that recap, but I posted it right under you, hope that is OK with you :-).
When this post came up, I was actually watching "Faith" raw on Viki and I just so happen to check DB around 11:00am (DB time) and saw your post and message to me. As weird (or bizarre :-)) as it might seem, I will not always be the first one to post. I wasn't the first one a month or so ago, and this will not last forever, I am sure :-). I think other people should be first as well, it just depends on when I happen to check the DB site, really.
I can understand what you meant, however. On OT for a while, there were two OTers who were regulars at posting first. It did feel funny the first time I was the first one to post on OT. That being said, I appreciate that you cared, and that you cared enough to ask if I was OK. This is the internet and so I don't expect people to care too much, I know we all have busy lives. It was good to hear from you (in spite of what brought it up) and I hope that you had a good night :-)
@ Mary:
"Haha… True. You kinda start wondering if Ivoire is sick when someone else is first. :/"
I hope I didn't make you worry. I do love your site, good stuff. Keep those laws coming :-)...

Thank you for the news, Javabeans. It is nice to see how in demand these actors and actresses become, when they do well in successful or popular (or both) dramas. I do wish her much success and improvement in her career.

Finally I get to see her again once Bridal Mask ends... Really curious with what she will bring in the future. I've only watched her in Bridal Mask and she got me there. Gonna try watching Hero, but not too sure, is it worth to watch?
off topic but I do like her with Joowon! sadly, they won't end up together...

her character's incompetence in 'hero' annoyed me to no end. not her fault. just another incompetent police officer in a k-drama. ha. 'hero' could've been all kinds of cool, but it didn't really reach the awesome it should've. still, you might enjoy it.

I disagree about her incompetence. she surprised me with her adding ( making 2 and so on) compared to many, many cops. She definitely wasn't a badass turned damsel in distress.

I loved her in bridal mask, she character was stronger and more badass than the lead actress. I'm pretty sure She'll hv the writers of BM to thank for her success!! It's one thing to be a good actress then another to be a good actress with a sucky role!!(mokdan) I hope she redeems herself with her new project five fingers!!! I love the BM cast and I wish them Sucess in their future endeavors!!

Bridal Mask is soo awesome that I'm having a hard time adjusting to all the new August dramas. Arang: probably the best
Faith: luv Lmh but it's just not doing it for me
HanaKimi: No solid storyline. Watching for the beautiful idolicious cast.
Panda: More bearable than Hanakim.
Five Fingers: no ones really subbing it. So I can't watch.
Haeundae Lovers: doesn't look interesting.
MayQueen: It's the only one doing it for me at the moment. Great premise and nice pacing!!
But none of them compare to Bridal Mask!!!!

I might watch this just for the fact that she was adopted to Sweden.
If she tries to speak Swedish I'll cry with laughter. Then again, it's probably a better way to go than making them all speak English — most of the world won't know you've completely mangled the language xD
Then again it'll be interesting to see how they do it, because Victoria is pronounced differently in Swedish. .. come to think of it, did they choose that name because they know for a fact one Swedish person has it — the crown princess?

The old Gaksital, the new Gaksital, Jin SeYeon and now even Han Chae Ah all have been offered new roles.
My only Q is...
WHERE THE HECK ARE PARK KI WOONG'S OFFERS?!!
:) :) :)
Oh, maybe he is getting some offers and is just keeping mum about them. He definitely deserves a vacation after all Gaksital, but I'd at least like to know that producers are recognizing his talents and offering him new parts at least....
Does he need to win some accolades and awards in the winter to start getting new roles? :( I hope not...
Best to you, PKW. And congrats to Miss Han Chae Ah!!

Park Ki Woong may end up turning down drama roles since Full House 2 has yet to air in Korea. It would avoid over-exposure.

U know what's most exciting about this drama? That the character grew up in Sweden! Finally! Somebody figured out abroad does not automatically equal America-well done! I'd give the writer(s) a daesang just for that 'crucial' fact lolz
