8th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival

It’s been four years (eep!) since the last time I wrote about Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, mostly because it’s not the most exciting of events. But the inclusion of Yoon Eun-hye into any red carpet automatically kicks it up a notch on the scale of interesting, no?

The festival’s now in its 8th year, and held its opening red carpet on August 9 in the city of Jecheon, which is located not far from Seoul in northern Chungcheongbuk province. It’s unique in that the festival celebrates both film and music; there are separate programs for both, as well as music-themed films, and live music stages.

Frankly I’m more into the live performances: Divided into themed nights (hip-hop night, acoustic night, etc.) the various stages feature artists like DJ Clazzi of Clazziquai, rock-electronic band Handsome People, rock band Yellow Monsters, hip-hoppers Dynamic Duo, now-solo artist Jay Park, singer-songwriter Lee Juck, rock band The Koxx, fusion gukak-classical-pop musicians Second Moon, melodic rockers Monni, indie band Zitten, and Top Band competitive-reality-show winners Toxic. Damn damn damn. *Jealous of anyone who can go.*

Lee Yoon-ji emceed the event, having been its promotional rep last year. The opening film was Searching from Sugar Man (a Swedish/UK project by director Malik Bendjelloul); the festival includes films from the U.S., U.K, Europe, Argentina, and other countries. JIMFF closes on August 15.

 
Yoon Eun-hye (Lie To Me) hasn’t been out and about much since her last project, and she always causes a stir when she shows up to red carpets. I’m not sure I quite understand the fit of her futuristic-asymmetrical-structured top (that pointy end makes me think of a fishtail pinned to her hem), but the overall effect is chic and elegant. Classic Yoon Eun-hye.

 
Gah, so glam and perfect. Even without the tan, Lee Yoon-ji (The King 2 Hearts) glows and the look is definite golden goddess. I almost wish she’d gone full-on whimsical with braided hair and a flower coronet (you know, to scream, I’m a frolicking goddess!), even if that might’ve skewed too literal.

Kim Dong-wook (Partner) and Kang Ye-won (Quick) are the official promotional representatives for this year’s festival so the first photo is the promo still.

Kim So-eun (A Thousand Kisses) is too adorable to be real. She’s like a tiny kitten. Whose best friend is a unicorn that sprays rainbows from its horn. Love the casual pink dress, and the hair that’s sort of hard to see from these photos, which is braided in a circular pattern on top. She’s all pint-sized charm and bubbly energy and should really, really choose better dramas.

 
Gu Hye-sun (Take Care of Us, Captain) came with her director’s hat on (er, figuratively), since her film Peach Tree is screening; she came with child actors from her project.

 
I feel like I want to nag Jung Eui-chul (Shut Up: Flower Boy Band) to neaten up his ensemble or get a better fit, but then that brought to mind the image of a guy wasting away from recent illness and coming back to the public eye with his old clothes, which now hang lifelessly. And you can’t scold a guy who hypothetically came back from the brink, even if that’s only in your imagination, can you? In other news: He looks more and more like Jo Hyun-jae by the day.

 
Aw, Kim Woo-bin (Vampire Idol). Since I’m constructing fictional narratives in my head, why do I feel like nobody bothered to tell the newbie that this wasn’t a formal affair and that he could leave his black tie at home? And so he put on his best threads, and didn’t realize he was overdressed till he got to the party? Still, nobody’s going to complain when you show up to anything wearing a sharp tux. Even if it’s just to do your grocery shopping. Or maybe especially then.

 
Yoo In-young (You’re Here, You’re Here, You’re Really Here) and Choi Woo-shik (Rooftop Prince). He’s so cute. I had to look up his age and was shocked that he was a 1990-er, even though yes, he has the babiest baby face ever. Boy’s just happy to be on the arm of sexy noona, yeah?

 
Veteran actor Ahn Sung-ki (Pace Maker, Broken Arrow), he of the hundred-plus credits on his filmography, always a welcome face.

 
How cute is Jo Sung-ha (Romance Town, Bleak Night)? He’s known as a “flower-man ajusshi” (er, the ajusshi version of the flower boy), which does sound ever-so-slightly less terrible in Korean, though sometimes he gets boyish and kid-like. Cute.

 
This is the most polished I’ve ever seen film actress Ji Sung-won (Bedevilled) look at a red carpet: she’s had a run of interesting looks at awards shows. Perchance she finally got herself a new stylist?
