The Thousandth Man sets its table for August premiere
by javabeans
For a drama starring a hero trying to escape being eaten by the heroine (literally—she’s a gumiho), I find the inclusion of a chef character dryly funny. And the setup makes it even cheekier.
So here’s a look at The Thousandth Man, the upcoming show starring Lee Chun-hee as the man in danger of becoming a gumiho’s ticket to humanity. The conflict: If she eats a thousand men’s livers, she becomes a person. Unfortunately for Chunderella, he meets Kang Ye-won just after she’s scored Number 999.
In these stills, Lee Chun-hee acts with host/comedian Seok Kyung-seok; they play a sunbae-hoobae pair who studied at the same French cooking school. (Apparently this calls for some French dialogue scenes between the two, but Seo Kyung-seok was a French language and literature major at Seoul National University, which, whoa. Impressed.)
The two play the owner and chef of a specialized type of restaurant named Last, where there’s only one dining table—the cooking caters specifically to that diner’s tastes. (Ha! Now I’m imagining gumiho Kang Ye-won strolling in and requesting a nice liver dinner, all while sizing up her organ donor. Now that would be dark and hilarious. Can we have some black humor, please?)
The show will have have more than one gumiho character, it seems, since it also includes the household and lifestyle of Kang Ye-won’s family, and tells their stories in omnibus format. Hmm… so is this going to be Hello Franceska: Gumiho version? That could be tons of fun.
Pictured at bottom are a few shots including Kang Ye-won—and lest you get overexcited, yes, while that IS Lee Min-ki with the cast, he isn’t in this show. Bummer, I know. The reason for his presence on set was to pay a visit to Kang, who was his Quick co-star. Aw, man, and you can’t even put in a wee, tiny, little cameo appearance? And as we know, if anybody can rock a cameo appearance, it’s Lee Min-ki.
The show is doing something a little different format-wise by airing in a different (from the usual prime-time drama) timeslot, Friday evenings, with eight episodes. That makes it a quick, hopefully zippy watch playing to one of summertime’s trademark genres, fantasy-horror. This drama isn’t a horror show in the vein of Hon or Hometown of Legends, but it riffs on the horror motif of man-eating supernatural foxes and gives it a comic bent; it’s described as a “fantasy sitcom.” (Though I think sitcom may be loosely applied, given its short running length.)
The Thousandth Man premieres on Friday, August 10.

I watched that in the Spring for the first time ever...loved every bit of their interaction but was frustrated with the 'if fate wills it' plot point. Fate done willed it, girl. Or you would never have met. So get back to kissing that boy, fast!
ER..that's how my mind kept talking to the tv, I mean.

I'm looking foward to seeing Lee Chun Hee again. Saw him for the first time in the disappointing Take Care of Us Captain, where he was the second male lead. He was IMO the best actor in that drama (up against Ji Jin Hee) - boy can he cry! Had me in tears, too! Has he been in anything else that I should have seen?
I too hope it is subbed somewhere.

Agree with you: What a stinker that TCUC drama! Even LCH's character was butchered: He couldn't do much to save the ship. Or the plane...

Smile, You was a great drama altho Chundy's character there was pretty much really close to his real character HAHA. His wifey stars in it too - actually they fell in love on that set I think :P
You should just watch him in old reruns of Family Outing. The boy is HILARIOUS there - side-splittingly so!

I know, right!?!?!?
He keeps on having little appearances here and there, but nothing like an upcoming drama or movie of just him! (TT~TT)
He's such a tease. When I saw him in the above pictures, I just wanted to grab him and scream, "Why won't you star in anything! I want at least 16 whole hours to stare at you! Go get a job instead of doing part-timers like cameos!"

He does have a movie that he signed on to recently. I prefer him in dramas but I also read that he has health problems, so that may keep him from committing to a drama. We all know the kind of toll that dramas have on their leading actors.

Ahhh... the sweetness that is Chundarella! Maybe the Gumiho should just gobble him up - he would be dessert.
I loved him in FO - he put up with so much and was always so good-tempered.
I'll look forward to watching him in this.

Aw Lee Min Ki could totally rock it as man number 999. It would be hilarious! Please show, please!
I can totally see it too. We open on a scene where he's preparing to propose and everything is all romantic with flowers and candles and she says she's hungry he says what would you like she says you he thinks she means it all sexily but then she fox's out and eats him. Of coarse LMK will sell it with his awesome facial expressions.
OH MAN i start school the 9th. NOOOOOOOOOOO!
