Stills for action drama City Conquest

Principal photography is well underway for noir action manhwa adaptation City Conquest, though interestingly, the drama has yet to find a slot on the broadcast schedule, or a network to call home. The drama from Media Baek and PD Yang Yoon-ho of IRIS has begun shooting, in hopes of finding a home to air sometime this year. It’d be a scary thing to blow your budget on an action blockbuster without a guaranteed slot, but it seems they’re banking on the combined star power of leading man Kim Hyun-joong (Playful Kiss) and PD Yang.
Meanwhile the production has been shooting on location overseas, and remained pretty tight-lipped about the story. So far we know that Kim Hyun-joong is taking on numerous action sequences for the role of revenge-driven PI Baek Miru, in a pretty City Hunter-esque setup. Though in this story, the bad daddy is more of an outright baddie from the get-go. (To the hero, I mean–I’m pretty sure we all knew City Hunter’s Daddy was evil.) Kim Seung-woo has been cast to play the father who betrays the hero, and sets him on the path to vengeance.
Jung Yumi (Rooftop Prince) plays the heroine, Lee Dan-bi, a jewelry designer. Which… seems to have nothing to do with anything, based on the plot. Couldn’t she be a cop or a mobster or a code-cracker or even a jewelry thief? For her character’s sake, can we make her a designer for contraband knockoffs or a jewelry designer by day, diamond smuggler by night — something with a darker twist, to keep her interesting?
I hope for the production’s sake that it manages to secure a timeslot before having all its episodes in the can. In the live-shoot system, that’s a dramaland purgatory no one wants to go to. The action-packed City Conquest hopes to air sometime this year, TBD.

FYI -he lost 7% fat through diet and training and besides HJ is already 26.There should be some muscles and body fat adjustments.Since you don't know,I'm telling you that he is the very busy Hallyu star for his FM's,CF's,prromotion of new singe in Japan and also having showcases.
But Girlfriday shoudn't worry about the drama's budget -Asian countries already bought the rights. The drama already earned money even without shooting a single scene. In fact,it might be a good idea to premiere this drama elsewhere. They just do it by habit and tradition to show it first in SK. KE is a progressive company, with their aggressive launching of KE stars in China who knows what they are planning. Japan has already schedule to show this drma is in a a local station.

really?..well just because your idols got their jawline carved out, eyes slit up to look bigger ,cheeks sucked out ,nose done and walk around like they were born and came out having to look like that naturally when they really aren't, does not mean that everyone out there is. maybe he got his nose done after he broke it but that is just about it,and his nose perfectly look good before he broke it ,if you even have seen his picture. and oh! your a** must be pretty jealous from all of that sh*t that is coming out from your mouth.

most of action drama lack of story and good acting, even big budget drama, this drama looks like city hunter from the sinopsis, i only watch two episode of city hunter and i didn't enjoy it so i think i'm not gonna watch it,the only action drama that i like is gaksital

Ameeeeen! I still can't get enough of his smiles no matter how often I see them. He's one of the few actors with the greatest smiles ever grace the small screen.
Will have a look at his one although I have no liking for the female lead. My love for Kim Hyung Jun is likely enough to overcome anything.

i just did a double take going "i don't remember commenting yet.." :)
love KHJ too. :) thankfully, I saw PK first and then watched his eps of WGM at the same time I found BOF or I might not have!
I'll definitely give this a shot to see if his acting has improved and hope the lessons worked! So I do have some other reservations as well (the Lie to Me writer?!?) but not enough to keep this out of my queue!

A drama with lot of actions like (parkour)chases, lot of martial art fights, hot evil girls, ... hmmm maybe showerscenes... . That would be nice. IRIS was an action-drama which deserves that name - so I will give it a try too.

Haha me too.. Hopefully this time they will leave out more image and put in more REAL acting n action. Really think they take a bit too much care of his image - hair, looks, bla bla.. in all his dramas. I mean, I love him alot too - he's my ultimate bias but, this is after all a DRAMA, not a beauty contest :P

Pretty hard to defend something you haven't even seen teaser from. At least with with Kim Hyun-Joong they can fangirl like crazy.
No offense, but I think that it will suck pretty bad. At least in the acting department. I can't imagine that he can improve, because he just has no talent to work with.

I think 'the City' is Gotham - it gets the hunters and conquerors it deserves...you get the drift. I'm still holding onto my idea of City Fashion, an haute couture drama (or comedy, depending on your taste) starring JGS as the tortured male model escaping the wrath of evil fashion designers.

Why not pick other actors? But oh well ill give it a try. It would be a waste tho if the drama gonna fail. Cuz the motorbike the revenge thing and the action.. Me like. Tho they could make the girls charcter basdass too. Why is one always bad and the other pure? Well not always, but mostly it is.

I really want KHJ to have improved, and I really want him to beat expectations, but something evil in me wants this to turn into a Jin-like Snark fest and have Heads recap it.
Although, prolly by the time Jin is finally done, Heads will roll into the sunset searching for a vacation from the snark.

That isn't just a simple nose job, there must have been done some other things to his face. I'm not an expert, but you can't even recognize him on most new pictures. He's 26 years old, a face can't change like that by itself.
Why fix something, when it wasn't even broken to begin with?
I was never really into him looks wise or anything other, but he appealed to his fans with his old look, so why change it so much? Does he really think that people wouldn't notice?

I wonder what perpetual side kick actors like:
Park Hyo Joon, (City Conquest; Harvest Villa; Lie to Me) or Shin Seung Hwan (I Do, I Do; Fashion King;Tree with Deep Roots, etc) or Kim Sang Ho (City Hunter, Sparkling, a million films)
think about the hype surrounding the stars in their shows?
They prolly more look to Lee Won Jong (in everything) who does 4 - 5 dramas a year, delivering a reliable, credible performance no matter what script is before them.

Why so mean to my cyber-hubby?!
Never mind. I get it, even if I disagree.
I can't even envision this not getting a time slot/network. It's already been sold overseas for more than $10 million (USD) just with Hyun Joong's name alone.
As I mentioned in a prior post, I'm hoping that he'll surprise his Negative Nellies by turning in a decent acting job. This time around, he's motivated by taking on a role that he's always said he's wanted to do - bad-ass biker type in an action setting. Motivated enough to take both action and acting classes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his enthusiasm for the role will translate to the screen for a successful performance.
I can also see Yumi being his love interest - light against the dark kind of thing. She can play sweet (1,000 Day Promise) and she's a good actress.

I'm with you, Cynthia. I hope Kim Hyun Joong is able to expand his skill set. I like the guy, he's got something going on that made me pay attention. I think he needs to develop range- I feel the BOF and PK characters had that same keep it under wraps vibe, and he comes off different in music video "characters." Then again I liked BOF and a lot of people don't, and I liked him in that. BOF was like crack to me, even with all the goofy stuff and some of the continuity issues. My concern is that CC is supposed to be edgy and dark and so is the character...not really seeing that vibe in the still shots. And it is going to be compared to City Hunter, there is no avoiding that. A lot of the press stuff said KHJ was going for a edgier 'image' with his last 2 songs/MV, um, Heat and I forget the other one, but, that so didn't happen. He needs to channel up what he had going on with Breakdown. I was like, whoa, is that Sunbae trying to be a bad boy, I like it, lol. I do not like Jung Yumi very much, but I'm open to see what happens. Anyway, after sucky badness of the BIG ending I am desperately waiting for something exciting happymaking fun to happen in dramaland so I'm looking forward to new shows.

I'm just looking forward for this drama. I never understood all the bed appreciation of KHJ 's acting - maybe they never took in consideration the script and director's indications and more - THEY NEVER LOOKED HIS EYES during acting. His eyes always said more than the lines.

He just recites his lines, I wouldn't call that acting. He has been like that constantly, you can't blame the director/writer/viewer for that.
And that his eyes speak to you I would call wishful thinking.

It would be good if KHJ's acting improved, but anyway I'm in if the story is good. I care more for the plot in a drama. I would rather watch a well written drama with mediocre acting than one with good actors and a trainwreck of a story. Of course, the ideal would be for dramas to have good acting, writing AND direction, but doesn't seem to come often.

If one of the dramabeans recappers will recap this, I will give this a shot before really diving into watching the series.
I'm not a huge fan of KHJ, actor-wise and singer-wise. I'm really hoping he'll bring to the table some decent acting skills, I've seen PK and he did an okay job. I wasn't cringing each time I saw him on the screen, so that was ok...?

I can't get over what Kim Hyun-joong did to his face. he used to be complete perfection. he was gorgeous imo but his face looks so damn odd to me. he went for gorgeous to just ok. so sad.

No matter how well-directed or action-packed this drama will be, I'll pass because Kim Hyun-joong is the leading man. I don't think he's fit for a revenge role when he's just about one of the worst actors who can't express his emotions well on screen.

I'm hoping his acting improved. He's not playing a stoic, anti-social high schooler with personality issues anymore so I'm gonna see how he acts as a normal person with not so normal vigilante hobbies? I dunno.

Taking on numerous action sequences, huh? Don't break your nose again Kim Hyun Joong but I suppose if you're in another drama you can take advantage of recession prices :).
I joke. Mostly. But anyway, I'm not going to completely write this one off because I'm not a fan of his acting. I didn't mind Jung Yumi in Rooftop Prince. So we'll see. I'm digging action-y shows these days and IRIS was entertaining enough. But it was painful getting through Lie To Me towards the end. Maybe the writer is better at action dramas than rom-coms?
I suppose if there's a lot of explosions and other noise-y stuff then it will distract me from any plot holes... for a bit.

Just lost all hope for it. The drama will lose a solid plot after a few episodes and the director will fill the blanks with explosions. :(

If he stepped up his "acting" since PK then I will give it a chance. Geesh he makes me cringe when he "acts".
But I do like Jung Yumi. She made me hate her character that I started liking the actress. :D So I may watch.
