Faith releases additional teaser, character stills

A new teaser’s out for Faith, and it continues The Epic that we first glimpsed in the first preview, melding action, history, and fantasy elements in what looks like a pretty badass blockbuster.

It also reminds me quite a bit of 2007’s Legend with the special effects and costuming, but that’s not a bad thing in my book. Legend had its flaws, but I did enjoy it, and it definitely delivered on production value and visual grandeur.

So, the premise, in case you’re new to the Faith bandwagon: Lee Min-ho plays a Goryeo-era royal bodyguard with an indifferent, “que sera sera” attitude about everything. Kim Hee-sun is the 21st-century plastic surgeon he kidnaps back to his time period, needing her medical skills.

Based on the trailer, it looks like Mr. Bodyguard has found a way to tap into some serious mojo, because he’s wielding some kind of mystical energy and purposely uses it to capture the doc. And this lone fact sets Faith apart from every other time-traveling drama we’ve seen, where the time-skipping mechanism is intentionally induced. (Operation Proposal allowed the hero to jump back somewhat at will, but he was kind of slow on the uptake about how to jump himself forward each time.)

(Even without making any judgments on Dr. Jin regarding quality, I can’t fathom how the Jin people tried so hard to block Faith, arguing that Faith ripped it off when… dude. Two different planes of existence entirely. One’s a medical whodunnit with small, episodic cases, and the other is sweeping action-thrills with a serious fantasy vibe.)

We also get a few more details on supporting characters, such as Philip Lee, who’s back in his third Song Ji-nah-penned series, after Legend and Story of a Man. I know I called him sex on legs for the latter, but I think he suits the look of a fantasy sageuk much better; he was gorgeous as Cheoro in Legend, when you got to see him without that mask.

In Faith, Philip Lee plays Goryeo’s best healer, which already tells me he’s at odds with Ms. Hostage. He’s professional and cool-headed, and a badass fighter to boot. His job description explains all the bloodstains he’s sporting in the still near the bottom of the page; he’s just come from treating an injured warrior.

There’s also Ryu Deok-hwan playing King Gongmin, pictured at the bottom, who ruled Goryeo from 1351 to 1374. He’s described as an intelligent ruler, and he’s the reason for Kim Hee-sun’s kidnapping; the bodyguard needs her to help the king.

Gurg. Excited. Faith premieres on August 13.

wooohoo! With the lackluster (for me anyway) dramas this 'season', I'm really excited for this to come! It seems to have all the epic vibes of the best type of manga series, combined with novel type settings and grandeur! Cannot wait :)

they should have let faith air first. then i wont have to waste my summer break. sheeshh. now that school is going to start in 1 month time, i have to allocate 2 hours watching faith. hopefully, faith will be good!

That's Sung Hoon (whose last drama was 2011 weekend drama New Tales of Gisaeng, where he stole my heart playing the lead. NTOG was uneven but the main love story owned me). I believe he is playing a (very Legolas-looking) villain in this one.

Ooh, me too! Sung Hoon totally saved NTOG for me, especially given the main female lead's plastic acting (not to mention plastic face). I totally broke down watching that scene when he cries after trying to disrupt the wedding.

Yea, well let me tell ya, the Jin people had too much tequilla.

Gah, that drama(Dr. Jin)... It's like watching someone botch up a presentation and it ends up being funny... but the person never meant for it to be funny. And it's been 14 episodes and I still don't (1) know what the fuck the fetus has to do with anything 'cept that it cause poor Hyukie headaches, and (2) why the fuck Chun Hong won't tell us why Young Rae and Hyuk "Cannot Be."

Yeah, we're in Goryeo, yeah...but why is it only now they announce it's in Gongmin's reign?!!!
I mean, the movie/drama loved that time period~!!!
Shindon & Frozen Flower are the main examples of why drama-land loved the waning Goryeo years...

...and I'm expecting the lead figures such as Shindon the monk, the Mongolian Princess-turned-Queen Noguk, and no less Gongmin's pederastic lovers...

Just can't wait.. Yeah! LMH is back!

Faith has to be definitely a lot better than Time Slip Dr. Jin which is such a dull dud. Loved the Japanese version because at least Takao Osawa can act better than Song Seung heon.

I was laughing so hard when they supposedly cut the horse's tail to make Dr. Jin (Song) top knot and when the people had cholera with everyone barfing and having diarrhea. An Image I wish I hadn't seen in a drama.

My problem: Lee Min Ho. The guy does nothing to me.

And yes I watched CH, but didn't enjoy it like I would if I loved the main guy. I actually watched it for sexy killer ahjusshi and hot prosecutor.

Im really excited! Finally a drama that got my drama addiction pumping again! Knowing that it's penned by the same writer as the one who delivered us the Legend and Story of a Man gives me tremendous hope that this one is going to be an EPIC! God of dramas pls. This year has been a lot misses and a few hits, let this one be a bang!
