Lee Jun-hyuk reports for duty

Aw, another one goes. Lee Jun-hyuk met the press and fans outside the army base in Uijeongbu on June 19, to bid farewell before reporting for active duty. I’ve never seen someone smile so much on his way into army. Could he be any cuter? And why do all nearly-thirty actors suddenly look like little boys when they shave their heads on enlistment day?
Lee Jun-hyuk only debuted six years ago, and had a string of middling supporting roles until he knocked it out of the park as the stick-in-the-mud Man of Law in last year’s City Hunter, followed by his epic bro war with Uhm Tae-woong in this year’s Equator Man. In two roles he shot up to stardom, which makes his choice to enlist now very smart. It’s not the case anymore that army duty means that people will forget about you while you’re gone, but the smart ones always leave with that big project under their belts. (See: Gong Yoo, Hyun Bin.) Lee Jun-hyuk isn’t a megastar, but two back-to-back lauded performances of memorable characters? Definitely how you want to be remembered.
Lest anyone drown in a pool of army oppa tears, just think about what he’ll look like on his way out. Mmmmm…

He stole my heart in 2008 when I first saw him in Three Brothers. That performance was good too, but not as good if you compare it with EM and City Hunter of course.

He wasn't a prosecutor in City Hall. He was right-hand-man to a politician and by the end of the drama, a politician in his own right.

I really like his role in city hall. There's a short scene of him w/ mr. Cha eating porridge or something that cracks me up every single time I remember it although it's been years already. There's no conversation in the scene, mr. Cha was daydreaming about his mi-rae looking at her poster, and Lee Jun-hyuk just gave him the "look"! lol can't stop laughing now lol

Yes, I actually think it's the City Hall role that started his upward trajectory - he really made that sidekick role shine. He had some good comedy riffs off Cha Seung Won and really brought out the conflict for his character, an upright guy working for some very shady characters, father and son. He had some rough waters to navigate and keep his honor intact. It was sortof a taste-of-things-to-come for City Hunter.

I've never seen him in city hunter though but I loved/hated his character in equator man he did an amazing job in his role I was more invested in his character than uhm tae woong's.

Good Luck to Lee Jun Hyuk (Lee Joon Hyuk). See Lee Jun Hyuk (Lee Joon Hyuk) in 2.5 or 3 years depending on his length of duty on where he goes and what he does in the Korean Army.

In Korea, do the men have to go through re-service every year (like head back to boot camp for a week or two each year) until a certain age or is "imprisonment" just 2 years?

For 5 years after military service, they're all in the reserve corps and need to attend "re-training" camps once a year.

If we equate the average post-army looks, let's just say: a bit beefier (deffo yumyum for us wild fans), and looking more mature (which BTW the latter is a sad case point for my mom, since she claims army makes them look "old")
