Joo Ji-hoon hits roadblocks on the way to dramaland
by girlfriday
It’s been seven months since Joo Ji-hoon came back from army duty, with what was supposed to be a clean slate after he was busted for drug use back in 2009. And though he has successfully completed filming his first comeback project, the film I Am the King (due out in August), television just might not be ready for him to return.
Joo was rumored to be cast in the Ji Jin-hee sageuk The Great Seer, originally slated for SBS’s current season. He ended up not being cast, and there are rumblings that SBS was wary of being the Big 3 broadcaster to un-blacklist Joo Ji-hoon while KBS and MBC weren’t willing to budge, and thus pulled his name from the roster. (It’s not clear that SBS was necessarily caving to pressure, but it seems likely that the KBS/MBC stance is more fact than fiction.)
Well whatever the reason, he’s now rumored to star in a different SBS project, the 50-episode melodrama Five Fingers, from the makjang hit-makers behind A Wife’s Temptation and Temptation of Angels. But it’s not all smooth sailing, because since the possible casting announcement has surfaced, the reaction online has been quite negative. SBS has reportedly called emergency meetings to discuss the situation. No matter the outcome, it’ll be interesting to see how the broadcaster handles the online reaction.
If the hurdles clear, Joo Ji-hoon might be starring in his first drama since 2007’s Mawang (The Devil). If not, he may have to carve out a film-only career for a little while longer.

Give him back to the public! He is one great actor, who made a mistake and to be honest he surely isn't the only one but the one who got caught.
This hypocrisy is killing me.
He paid for his mistake. Now give him back to Dramaland!

I hope he can secure a drama soon. He's very talented and I wish him success. He's just a person like everyone else and he messed up, but he's trying to work and live right. I respect that.
We should stop deifying celebrities. They have the same problems as everyone else and mess up just like everyone else.

thanks gf
I guess we from other asian countries and some from western sphere think differently from the sk netizen.
They are not caring enough with thoughts and the word to forgive and to let the person have a second chance for
their life to go on because of their unwillingness to accept people change for the better when done wrong.
Infact the netizen give harsh critics in most kdramas
if they don't like the actors.

Ugh... really, I can't understand why they do this. So he goes all through the process of paying his dues, and comes out still the gray sheep in a sea of black. Really?
I don't know, I honestly think his charge shouldn't have been a big deal in the first place, and I agree with the comments above on the first page about how they are avoiding other issues and focusing on someone who has actually worked on rebuilding his life after a misstep.
The 3 Big C need to cut the bull and stop messing with people's lives.

All he was caught doing was ecstasy. That's not even a hard drug. And frankly, so what if he wants to do recreational drugs, so long as it doesn't affect his work?
Tons of people do recreational drugs and a sizable percentage of those people do far harder drugs than ecstasy. Frankly, his doing ecstasy is probably no worse than the binge drinking a lot of Koreans do.
It'd be interesting to see what percentage of us DB readers have done drugs recreationally at one time or another and continue to go on living productive lives.

Very disappointed in the negative publicity that has been put upon JJH in the public eyes. Every human makes mistakes, EVERY, wether it's small or big. And JJH was caught once doing recreational drugs, that is nowhere near as bad as most. Most go through a stage of fun and will go on with their lives. He has pay his dues and wants to continue a positive life, yet no one wants to give him the opportunity? The bad guys are able to move on and the good ones are pushed and shoved aside. Does it make any sense?!

I've only been aware of Joo Ji Hoon for about a month and a half and I'm head over heals about his acting abilities. Such depth, diversity and charisma, not to mention great looks to boost! I'm kind of annoyed by the S.Korean entertainment industys' reaction to blacklist JJH because of this one mistake. People change and it's in their nature to become better. No one deserves to be punished for life. The big execs. should put themselves in JJH's shoes to see how it feels like to not get a second chance. See if they'll still feel the same and continue to blacklist him.
I can't stand the Netizens. They sound to me like little bitchy, spoiled, unappreciative, no life experience teenage little girls. Someone needs to put them in their place.
OK. I'll stop my ranting.
I just hope he's redeemed himself enough for the big networks to open their doors again for him to continue making great shows/dramas/movies. It'd be a Shame to waste such a Talent. I have to say, IMHO, I feel he's become a much better actor after his discharge from the army. So much more mature. I've watched all his dramas and movies (yes, ALL, in a week or so! Told you I was crazy head over heels for JJH).
I support you, Joo Ji Hoon. My favorite actor! (OK...Only 2nd to Won Bin, though) ?
