A Gentleman’s Dignity: Episode 7

Today’s episode gives a sneak peek into Do Jin’s past and we learn that Mr. Confident also has battles with insecurity and anxiety. His body has a certain reflex to dealing with stress that’s simply mind boggling.

In contrast, Yi Soo is faced with a not-so-happy conclusion to one chapter in her life. She looks forward to a future without the tangles of unrequited love and hopes that a young studmuffin can whisk her away from all her problems. Do Jin, watch your…erm…wrinkles?

EPISODE 7 RECAP

It’s the day before Jung Rok’s wedding in 2002 and Do Jin, Tae San, and Yoon follow a crowd of soccer fans down the street to Min Sook’s house to pay their dues as groomsmen and earn access to the bride for Jung Rok.

They wait outside impatiently when the doors open to reveal three women decorated with jewels and fluffy L’oreal hair. Do Jin mutters that this marriage might be the best thing that happened to their group of friends and prods Yoon to sing a song for the nunas. Heh.

The next day, at the wedding, Min Sook finds herself unable to smile for a wedding portrait with friends because the people on Jung Rok’s side are mostly young, pretty women. Bwahah. Yoon narrates that Jung Rok’s marriage was a blessing for everyone except the bride and groom.

Back in the present, Yi Soo replays the kiss again in her head but reminds herself that Do Jin is a bad guy. She wonders what else he could possibly do to mess up her life. She even starts to get a little annoyed at how he kissed her without warning but then consoles herself that at least the kiss was just on the outer lips. Mmmhmm. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

She rummages though her underwear drawer while badmouthing Do Jin except for a short moment when she tries to remember where her kitty underwear went. She later grumbles about certain upper lady parts shrinking from losing weight and the camera pans up to Do Jin’s jacket to show that his pen recorder has been on for the past eight hours. Puahah. Uh oh.

Do Jin wakes up and states that today is April 18th. Yet his clock and phone flashes that it’s 7AM on April 19th which shocks him. He heads to his (huge) closet and searches for the pen recorder but can’t find it. He comes out into the kitchen and sees Yoon in an apron putting breakfast on the table. He urges Do Jin to go wash up. Hee! They’re like an old married couple. I love it.

He asks Yoon if he drank yesterday and Yoon responds that they came home together from the bar. Do Jin was drunk so he went straight to bed. Do Jin asks if anything else happened and Yoon coolly responds that Tae San made the mistake of hugging Yi Soo, thinking that it was Se Ra. Do Jin should know; he was there.

Do Jin’s eyes get wider and wonders how Tae San can be unharmed if Do Jin saw him hug Yi Soo. Yoon tells him to listen to his recorder and Do Jin replies that he doesn’t know where it is. Uh…what is going on here?

During a business meeting, Tae San thinks back to last night when Se Ra told him he’s the guy Yi Soo has a crush on. He sighs loudly and everyone shoots him curious looks. He asks that the meeting be postponed and requests a private conversation with Do Jin.

They go outdoors and Tae San asks if he should apologize to Do Jin for back hugging Yi Soo. He wants to know what kind of relationship Do Jin and Yi Soo have exactly.

Do Jin responds that he doesn’t remember what happened last night. He also asks if Tae San saw a pair of heels around the office. Tae San looks at him in alarm and Do Jin calmly states that “it” must have relapsed. WHAT IS “IT”?!

Dong Hyub and his friends walk past the school gates after class and spot Do Jin with his car in the parking lot. They approach Do Jin and Dong Hyub slightly kicks Betty’s wheels while asking for money. Oh no. Don’t do that to innocent Betty, Dong Hyub. You don’t know what will happen.

Suddenly, Yi Soo barks out Dong Hyub’s name when she sees him and Dong Hyub lazily tells Do Jin that he was just joking. He and his posse slip away as Yi Soo’s annoying co-worker drools at the sight of Do Jin.

Yi Soo approaches Do Jin who reminds her that he told her to pick up his calls. She sniffs that she doesn’t check her phone during school and Do Jin shakes his head in frustration. He opens the car door for her and Yi Soo’s co-worker squeals in delight at how dreamy the mystery man seems.

They head to Yi Soo’s house and she seems disappointed that he just plans to pick up his jacket. She carefully asks if he has nothing to say to her and he replies that he’s not sure what she wants him to talk about.

He retrieves the jacket and assumes that she was thankful for its warmth. She stops him before he leaves and inquires if she’s just supposed to ignore what happened last night. He asks if something important took place and she responds that the event might be insignificant to him but she takes these things very seriously.

Do Jin wonders if they slept together (d’oh) but before she can respond she gets a phone call from Tae San. Do Jin takes her phone and informs Tae San that he’s with Yi Soo right now. They’ll talk when he gets back to the office. He leaves after returning her phone and she stands at the door fuming at his nonchalance.

At the office, Do Jin glowers at a working Tae San as he listens to the moment when Tae San hugged Yi Soo. Tae San gulps nervously and tells him to just listen to everything first. Hee. Why does Do Jin look so cute in those headphones?

He gets to the part where he kissed Yi Soo and an “oh crap” look crosses over his face. Tae San asks what’s wrong and Do Jin replies that he thinks he made a mistake today. Yeah you did. I want to shake you by the shoulders until your memory comes back.

Yi Soo and Yoon meet in a park and Yoon tells her that Do Jin’s pen is a recorder because he suffers from short term memory loss when he gets stressed out. He can forget an event that happened a couple of minutes ago as well as an entire day if he’s really anxious.

Yoon explains that Do Jin and Tae San’s company went bankrupt three times. Do Jin lost his pride the first time it happened, his car and house the second time, and his self-worth the last time.

Yi Soo soaks in this information and carefully says that she would have never thought to label Do Jin as an insecure man. Yoon replies that even the most confident people have their own problems. She nods in agreement and then remembers the private conversation she had with herself the night before. She hurriedly says goodbye before running off.

Do Jin visits the doctor who shows him his MRI scans. The doctor claims that nothing is wrong with him and blames it on stress. He inquires if Do Jin has been feeling angry, anxious, or depressed these days.

He replies that he’s been battling all three. He claims that he’s recently started to pursue an unrequited love. The doctor lightly warns him to fix the love disease soon; unrequited love is very hazardous to one’s health.

As he walks out the door, Do Jin calls the doctor irresponsible because the patient has to take care of his own disease in the end. Why do I get the feeling that this won’t be the last time we see this doctor…

Yi Soo tries to call Do Jin and prevent him from listening to the recorder. Meanwhile, he sits in his apartment and is greatly amused by her grumbles about underwear and surprise kisses. Suddenly the recording gets quiet and he hears her starting to change.

He thinks of her changing right in front of him and moves around trying to get a glimpse of imaginary Yi Soo’s nekkid body. Woah there. It’s starting to get X-rated up in here.

The doorbell rings and he quickly turns the recorder off before letting Yi Soo inside. She asks how much he’s heard and he lies that he’s at the kissing part. She grins, relieved that he hasn’t listened to everything yet and cheerily reconfirms that they kissed underneath the cherry blossoms.

He laughs that his lips must have been fantastic enough for her to remember the kiss so well and she clears her throat to avoid responding. She tries to steal the recorder but he grabs it first. They play a short game of keep away before they fall onto the couch and end up in a very sensual position.

Do Jin grabs her collar to keep her from getting up and tells her that she must know of his strange illness if she talked to Yoon. He assures her that he didn’t forget anything on purpose and she nods her comprehension while commanding him to let go of her collar.

He comments that she should stop moving or he’ll be able to see her kitty underwear and her eyes widen in shock. So he did hear everything! He smiles and says that she really does fit his style; he’s always preferred Catwoman over Wonder Woman. LOL. Oh goodness. How can he say these things with such a straight face?

She puts her head on his chest to cover her red face and his heart pounds at the close contact. She tries to run away but he grabs her arm and mutters that she causes him so much stress.

His grip loosens after he shoots her one of his smoldering stares and he starts to tell her to go when she bolts towards the door. He said he didn’t finish talking and she cuts him off by replying that she knows he won’t let her leave if she stays longer.

He smirks and replies that he was going to say she should leave before traffic gets bad. She rushes out the door in embarrassment and he quietly states that her assumption was correct; he doesn’t want to let her go.

Yi Soo does her mortified monkey dance outside Do Jin’s apartment and looks up to the heavens to ask if she can embarrass herself any more. Hehe. After she returns home, she receives the red dress from the dry cleaning lady and calls Me Ahri over to return her gift.

She claims that the dress is too expensive to hang in her closet and Me Ahri assures her that the dress is less than a hundred dollars. Me Ahri also informs Yi Soo that she doesn’t have money; it all belongs to her parents and she’s just mooching off of her brother for now.

She continues that she just wanted to thank Yi Soo for looking after her and sending pictures of Yoon from time to time when she was abroad. Yi Soo responds that she’ll take the gift then and admires the dress while thinking of the event in the dorm bathroom. Heh. The sexy dress now equals a sexy Do Jin.

Se Ra completes a photo shoot for a clothing brand and goes out to have drinks with friends. She wills her phone to ring but then ignores it when Tae San calls. Her friend urges her to pick it up and she replies that Tae San won’t look for her if she answers. Ugh.

Tae San later barges into the bar Se Ra is at and she holds out her hand like the princess she is. He whisks her away and holds her hand while walking. He stops about 100 feet outside of her house to avoid running into Yi Soo, which incites Se Ra’s jealousy.

She accuses him of avoiding Yi Soo because he’s afraid of developing feelings for her. She then demands an apology for his “infidelity” but he ignores her request. Yi Soo calls right then and Tae San agrees to talk with her somewhere. He abruptly leaves and Se Ra wells up with tears.

Yi Soo meets Tae San and explains that he shouldn’t worry about mistakenly hugging her last night. She’s more worried that Se Ra might be upset and tells him to make her feel better, even if he has to bring up Yi Soo’s faults.

After a moment of silence, Tae San slowly says that he really likes Se Ra. Yi Soo’s smile falters a little but she forces herself to reply that she knows that he does, in an upbeat voice.

Tae San murmurs that it seems everyone but Se Ra knows that she’s the one he loves. Sigh. That was so passive-aggressive! So now you’re knowingly crushing Yi Soo’s heart? Oh Tae San. Yi Soo isn’t going sabotage your relationship and you know that. I’m disappointed in you.

Se Ra downs a shot of whiskey as Yi Soo comes home after her meeting with Tae San. Se Ra bitterly says that Yi Soo should just keep her jacket. A passive Yi Soo replies that the whole situation was just a simple mistake.

Se Ra gives her a sour smile and asks if the gloves under Yi Soo’s bed and Tae San’s high school picture in her notebook are also “mistakes.” Was Yi Soo just biding her time until Tae San and Se Ra broke up? Pft. Please drop the drama queen act.

Yi Soo stammers that she’s sorry for not guarding her secret more closely. But in her defense, she wasn’t planning to do anything or expecting anything to happen. Se Ra snaps that she did her a favor then; she told Tae San about Yi Soo’s crush yesterday.

Yi Soo starts to tear up and she admits that she was going to confess to Tae San the day she bought the gloves. However, he had asked for Se Ra’s number before she could say anything. She continues that Se Ra should have at least kept the secret from Tae San; that was her last source of pride.

Se Ra looks away guiltily and Yi Soo expresses that she should have thought to confess to Tae San before she came home then. At least her pride would still be intact. Yi Soo challenges that maybe she should try stealing him away. She leaves after telling Se Ra that she doesn’t want to see her face anymore tonight.

The next day, Yoon comes out from his office to see Colin asking Me Ahri out to dinner. She giggles at his show of chivalry but stops when she realizes Yoon is behind her. He walks past her without a word.

Colin takes Me Ahri out to a chicken restaurant and he eagerly asks if Tae San is married. She shoots him a curious look and then states that he seems both interested and uninterested in her.

She wonders if he’s pursuing her because she accidently told him that she’s rich when she was drunk at the club. He says no and she smiles, thinking he approached her because she was pretty. Colin rolls his eyes and then asks her to talk after swallowing her food. He has a weak stomach. Kek.

Yi Soo drives home but stays in her car to watch a baseball game on her phone. Do Jin shows up in Betty and he catches sight of Yi Soo outside. He parks and gets into Yi Soo’s car which startles her.

He tells her that she still hasn’t picked up any of his calls and she responds that she rarely checks her phone after work. She tiredly asks why he’s here and he presents her with a new laptop. She thanks him quietly and also returns the 30,000 won that she borrowed.

Do Jin notices that something is wrong and she explains that Se Ra told Tae San about her unrequited love. She says that it’s officially over now and accepts the laptop on the condition that he stops coming to see her.

He responds that he never agreed to something she decided on her own. She ignores him and declares that he’s confident, cool, and good-looking but he doesn’t interest her. She wants to date younger men from now on. HAHAHA. He blinks his eyes in disbelief.

She goes on to say that younger men with great comedic timing are especially charming. He sits back in his seat speechless and ends up pondering over her words later that night. Yoon sits on the other side of the couch from him, recalling the scene with Colin and Me Ahri from the afternoon.

Yoon suddenly spits out the word “younger” and Do Jin instantly sits upright, wondering how Yoon knew he was thinking about that exact word. Bahah. Do Jin then assumes that Me Ahri must be meeting a younger man now, which is how she influenced Yi Soo into falling for fresher meat.

An offended Yoon shouts that Yi Soo is the teacher. Therefore, Yi Soo must have been the one who taught Me Ahri about dating younger guys. He also picks at how little Do Jin knows about Yi Soo. In return, Do Jin asks why Me Ahri is going out with a younger boyfriend if Yoon knows everything about her. Hee.

Yoon scoffs that Do Jin can’t even be annoyed with Yi Soo because he likes younger women like Girls’ Generation. Do Jin starts to mention someone doing a dance for an autograph from Soo Young and mocks Yoon’s “Genie” leg move. Yoon quickly yells at him to go to sleep. Keke.

At the Im household, Me Ahri slams down a basket of laundry and rebukes Jung Rok for using six towels a day. However, Tae San scolds her for putting out so many towels at once; she should go hide all of them right now. Hehe.

Tae San demands that Jung Rok stop stealing his underwear as Jung Rok arranges to meet Min Sook at a local church to talk. Min Sook later finds Jung Rok kneeling in front of the altar when she arrives.

He confesses that he’s a sinful man for meeting and loving his wife, and then leaving her alone all the time. She lets out a sarcastic laugh and tells him that erasing her from his heart is just as bad as when he goes off with other women. He’s stil banished from home. I’d say you deserve that.

The boys head to a bar to celebrate Yoon’s birthday and are surprised to see Me Ahri there with a cake. Jung Rok also shows up with two models. After some light conversation, Me Ahri lights the candles on the cake and urges everyone to make a wish.

One of the models laughs that forty-year old men must still have an urge to blow out candles like little kids. Me Ahri calls the lady out on her rudeness and Tae San quickly demands that she go home; it’s past ten.

She bursts out that Tae San just doesn’t want her here because he knows she really likes Yoon. Tears stream down her face as Tae San starts to drag her towards the door. Just then, Yoon grabs Tae San’s arm and stands up to demand that he let go of Me Ahri. Oh snap.

Comments:

I had a slight panic attack when there was all this talk about Do Jin’s memory loss in the beginning of the episode. I feel like we haven’t seen the end of this “disease” yet and it’s making me really nervous.

For now, we’re told that his memory loss is caused by stress but I worry that we’ll slip into a sob fest about the end of Do Jin’s life later on. The memory lapses could just be an indication of how Yi Soo affects Do Jin but I believe there’s more to the disease.

It just doesn’t seem logical to emphasize the pen recorder throughout the drama and then clean up the significance of it in one episode. I’m not ecstatic that we have this memory problem and I pray that my expectations are wrong. Gah. Amnesia plots really need to be put to rest.

I haven’t written much on Colin because we’re given so little of him. There are times when I really wish that a more experienced actor had taken this role. Colin could be a complex character but the idol who plays him, Jong Hyun, is still awkward onscreen. ::ducks from CN Blue fans::

You can argue that he hasn’t been given much to do yet and I agree that I can’t judge him too harshly yet. However, I can’t help but notice his stiff line delivery and Jong Hyun doesn’t exude the whole mysterious, cool vibe that Colin is supposed to have naturally. I am willing to give him a a chance to redeem himself when the “who’s your daddy” plot unravels though.

The story arc of Yi Soo’s secret crush is finally starting to wind down which is great. The sooner she moves on from Tae San, the sooner she realizes that Do Jin is genuinely in love with her. The scene on the couch was sizzling with chemistry and it’s amazing how expressive Jang Dong Gun’s eyes can be.

The discussion about younger men between Do Jin and Yoon was done mostly for laughs but I like that we’re pursuing their anxiety about age. It’s mostly women who deal with constant pressure to look younger so I like this reversal that we’re heading into. Do Jin hasn’t even realized Dong Hyub has a crush on Yi Soo. Hehe.

Note: I’m going to save comments about the Yoon/Me Ahri couple for the next episode. Trust me, I have a lot to say about them but I want to see how this last scene plays out first.

Ahhh . . . The angst is coming. I loved finding out more about Do Jin's vulnerabilities and seeing his feelings for Yi Soo continue to deepen. But I'm worried about what's headed our way. I don't want to end up frustrated with the characters because they won't talk to each other or find myself sobbing in a corner because Do Jin has a terminal disease!

Thanks so much for the recap! I agree this drama sizzles. I felt butterflies in my stomach during their romantic scenes.
Do Jin looks at her so tenderly and smoulders too!

Thanks for the recap! I am also worried about the memory problem. But...post-traumatic stress really does exist. Maybe we learn more about Do-jin's past and better understand his issues.

the guys were pretty matter of fact about it. this infers that they have seen it all before and that the current relapse occured after a while. the doctor too was casual and advised less stress.

i think the writers are not going to go all 'melo'/angsty over the memory sub-plot. keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the rapid recap!

I'm not too concerned about the memory lapses. Stress-induced memory blocks aren't unheard of and I hope that this is used as a tool in plot development but not as a physical disease. We had enough of that in ATDP with Su Ae.

Had to laugh at DJ's expression when Yi-soo informs him that she's moving on to younger guys. Especially since the F44 are mentally functioning as F33's and are in a sore need of a reality check.
(Speaking of 'cougar issues' Yoo In-ah finally replied to the Love Confession. I placed the post at the end of the last OT thread. I am happy!! :)

i think its 4 years but it is a non-issue. they look good together.

YIN is 32 and korea is superficially age sensitive like most asian countries where you are old once past 30. its remarkable that she has managed to steer her career from second lead roles to lead roles in such a short time. i will feel bad if this incident hampers her career.

In a scandal-wussy industry it was perhaps not a wise move on JHW's part. there were stories of YIN losing projects because of it. and he is going off to the army for 2 years! a little bit of maturity from a 28 year old was expected if it was indeed not staged (i highly doubt it but some have opined it as a publicity stunt as their drama is planned to air overseas).

YIN if she is still going to do WGM will be great in it. and JHW is adorable. who knows once he is out of the army he will go looking for his noona! :)

I agree. It's a form of depression that can actually be treated with medication. The fact that he's normal neurologically (MRI) means the disease is psychiatric. The only wrinkle I could foresee is when he would go into the deep end after some huge stressful event (Major Depression).

What if the plot turns into progressive amnesia for the guy that eventually he completely forgets the chic, like in that (totally awesome) Ki Tae Young movie?!! imma shoot somebody if they bring melo isht after all the laughs we've had...it'd be just as bad as killing off Daniel Choi and SSK's characters in High Kick, after all the funny!
anything but sad pls, i'd rather they make that idol kid someone's son or sth like that...more laughs anyways, esp if the father is our resident unfaithful husband!

Before your comment or rant or agree to her behaviour and also the actress acting, - I always skip mae ri's scene,

I don't know how Yoon's character could be written such, ep. as a big hyung to the girl !

he could had even change her diapers when a baby !.

It is not that unusual for people 15 years apart in age to fall in love. My only issue is that Mae ri is so young. If they were 30 and 45, Maeri would have more life experience and have better judgement. Joon is a very sweet guy and he really loves Maeri for the cute and vivacious girl that she is. I don't think that there is anything smarmy in his feelings for her.

I don't think Maeri's acting is bad at all. I actually think she's adorable! She's a little bratty, but not in an annoying way.

And honestly it's a hoot to watch the 4 guys around her, they have much more chemistry with her than with Kim Ha Neul!

Man, I was worried Do Jin's "disease" would be some brain tumor or something, but I totally forgot about the amnesia thing. Damn you amnesia plots! I hope this one doesn't veer into a tearfest; I really like it's breezy tone right now.

I understand your squickiness about Me Ahri and Yoon, but it does happen, and I would like to see the drama portray that kind of relationship. There might be generational differences, but Me Ahri's sunny personality might be just what Yoon needs to get over his deceased wife, and Yoon's steady attitude is perfect for Me Ahri's flightiness. Plus Kim Min Jong is so freakin' perfect for this role that it kills me; he is the best at conflicted expressions.

Se Ra can be annoying, but I can't hate her because I feel like the character's behavior comes from a true place of insecurity. So, I think she annoys me how she's supposed to, in a sympathetic "aw, be more confident" kind of way.

Jung Rok and Min Sook are funny, but I really hope they show more of the relationship, and hopefully Jung Rok getting over his cheating ways. At the moment, I don't understand why he cheats; Min Sook is only annoying in relation to that, and seems lovely otherwise. If he didn't cheat and make her feel insecure about her age, she wouldn't act like such a harpy.

Like the fact they explained the whole recorder and him saying the date when he wakes up. I knew there had to be a reason like maybe he has blackouts. Well, I was sorta right. I wonder if thats why he left his shoes in the pool room. I thought that scene was weird because they zoomed in on the shoes.

I feel bad for Se Ra. I have no problem with her character. If she seems cold I know she isn't she just has a very thick outer shell. I don't think she's as money hungry as she wants everyone to believe. She genuinely loves TS but she has no confidence to keep him.

Love Jung Rok and Min Sook. But I want a reversal! I want Jung Rok to realize he loves his wife and maybe that can only happen when he thinks he might truly lose her.

I can't wait for the Colin story to hit the fan. This might put the F44s friendship to the test. Eun Sung was someone they all cared for, deeply it seems. Some of them or all of them probably loved her.

Thanks for the recap!

Thanks for the recap!!

I'm not too worried about Do Jin's memory loss. While I think we will revisit his disability(maybe it's connected to a previous lost first love) and that it may cause some drama, I doubt it's life-threatening. I don't ever remember the writer going in the life-threatening-disease route in her previous dramas.

I really like how the Yi Soo-likes-Tae-san issue is winding down a bit. While it was bitchy of Sera to spill the beans about her crush, I think now that Yi Soo's really rejected, she will start thinking about putting that part of her life aside to make room for a new love.

I think Jonghyun's done a fantastic job exuding that cool, mysterious vibe. But that's all he has really done. I have trouble reading his motivations. Is he out to reunite with dear ole daddy or knife him in the back? You really can't tell! The writing isn't helping either since it hasn't given him much to do besides make him cool and mysterious. I hope they will reveal more about his story instead of having it just hang out there like a sore thumb.

I completely agree with you about Jonghyun. He had done a good job with the little screen time and lines given to him. Considering also this is his debut in TV, his acting is really good.

I also think he's not a sticking out like a sore thumb cos he's so handsome(squeal!!!!).Sorry for fangirling for a sec....lol.Or if he is,what a gorgeous sore thumb he is!!!

Anyway, I think he will have a significant role in the future. Though I was in for this drama cos of Jonghyun, I fell for all the cast and the story. Makes my weekend more fun and relaxing. Waiting for your recaps on the coming episodes. Thanks a lot!!!!

I still don't understand why YS stays at SR's house. I think she can afford to pay a monthly rent room / apartment.

My guess from what I know...in So.Korea they handle real-estate rental differently from the West.

Instead of a small damage-deposit ($1,000 or more) they require several, several thousands of dollars in what is called *key money*.

Like a down payment on a house...$8,000 - $50,000 +

This is true even for apartments...basically, you have to have a giant wad of cash in order to obtain...the key.

The landlord 'holds' the money for the duration of the rental. Then returns it (yes, thousands), minus damage, when the lease is up.

I can understand that this method DEFINITELY deters people from moving out in the night and running away...(if you've watched a few KDramas this seems to be a consistent theme).....but it also places people in the position of NOT being able to leave if they need to -- because the owner may have spent the *holding money*

I think this is the case with SeRa...presuming from their conversation-she is the landowner, but has spent Yi Soo's deposit or can't afford to do without it at the moment.

My take....YiSoo should move into DoJin's work-hotel and stand by the bathroom door...maybe DJ will appear with unbuttoned shirt again....RAWR. ;)

RAWRRR... yep I want it too!!

Anyway thanks for clarifying this issue, because I would definitely move out if my friend hurts my pride. It's simple for others, but I take that matter seriously.

Well, at least this discussion helped to clear up some of my questions concerning all these adult children (in dramas) living with their parents - even after marriage. No key money....

Thanks for the recap orangy911 ~♥

I totally LOVE that the writer threw in the idea that the guys should be concerned about younger rivals.

I've seen plenty enough of Kdramas (and real life for that matter) make an issue of a woman's age = viability in the dating/marriage *market*.

To have the two most desided females in a story...both express interest in younger guys due to the "lacking" in older men's behavior...is sweeeeeeeeeeet. (Even if neither female is earnest in going about it...and I don't think they are)

Age is not something that can be re-newed with money or cleverness....so it's a wonderful plot point to force them to consider that 'younger models' are NOT only available to men. VIVA~ the Noonas of the World !!! woot.

I freaking love this show! It's hilarious, romantic, everything! the F44 men are just amazing, chemistry wise, bromances, them smart gentleman looks etc and I didn't even go ga ga over the F4 in BOF, lol.

Anyway, does anyone know the song that was played at the end scene? when Yoon grabbed Tae San's hand? I can't seem to find out what song that is..mad. Please, anyone? Cookies? =D

This episode was great. I really, really hope that this drama continues to be good. I admit that I feel a little uneasy, but we'll see what happens. Wow.. totally replayed the sofa scene too many times. This drama moves slow, but it's not a bad thing... love the characters.

I do like Yoon and MR a lot... but her reaction in the end had me cringing. She is 24.... she should not be overreacting and crying like that. It definitely doesn't help her case with TS...

Hi!

I agree, MR overreacted. My guess is she's probably stressed with the presence of Jeong Rok's girls. She was patently out of place and Yoon was being indifferent.

Didn't know that Colin is from CNBlue (I only know yonghwa), so I actually thought he's new young actor, and from what i' seeing, i think he did ok, not that bad, given his small screen time and few lines.

I like yoon and Maehri pairing, idc the age gap (though maybe the script shouldn't say yoon actually saw her from she was a baby? kinda spoil it a bit for me) but the crying scene at the end is like a bit childish, I dunno, just thought there's something wrong with the way she cried, overboard? I mean, I know I wouldn't cry like that at the age of 24. lol.

Required fields are marked *

I've cried like that at age 24. It's the crying of a person who has experienced a lot of frustration. I think Meahri is as sensitive to the age gap as Yoon is. She knows she is much younger. Her brother and his friends all treat her like a little sister, when all she wants is to be recognized as a woman. Even if they don't like her as a woman, just being treated like some high school kid can be frustrating. These sexy older ladies, who are more age-appropriate for Yoon, go and make comments about how immature it was to make birthday wishes- poking at the sensitive issue about age. Then her brother is telling her to go home because it's 10pm(!!) like she's a high school kid. All of this piling on top of the tiff she had with Yoon regarding the hitting incident and how dismissive of her he has been lately. It's like a dam of frustration that just broke.

At this point, I would have been like "eff all of y'all. I'm going to get drunk with a hawt young guy like Colin and I'm taking this cake with me, you ingrates", but I guess Im Meahri really loves Yoon.

Yes I totally agree with you, asianromance.

The guys really treat her like a kiddo, and not the woman she wants to be recognized as.

And it's nice that you pointed out that she's as aware of the age gap as Yoon is. As in a previous episode where she kissed him, she asked sadly why a young, rich, pretty girl like her would kiss him. So yup.. she really loves him.

JDG is so hot and his eye expressions are so great. He proves why he is one of the best actors in Korea. When I watched AAE I thought he was born for that role and in my wildest dream I never thought he could be this hilarious and he plays the role of DJ so perfectly, two totally different characters and he aced them both. Love him and love the bromance. :D

I agree with you, he's the reason why I'm watching the show--though the chemistry between the four guys is great . Do you think he's gotten too skinny? His face especially. I also think they could have picked a better actress to costar with him; he's such a good actor he really needs someone good. I could be wrong, maybe she's in something else good and I just haven't seen it?

I really like Yoon & MR, and I can even see the appeal of them together. Yoon is more quiet & MR is bubbly. She can brighten his world, BUT I'm just not sold on them as a couple. MR is too sheltered & childish to suit someone like Yoon who has been through heartbreak & life. It realky doesn't help she's more like 18 most of the time. Realistically, they probably only last few months in a relationship. I know people are annoyed by TS objection, but what older brother who had spend his life time raising his sister would approve of his her dating a man that is twice her age. Not to mention his friend whom has seen her when she was born. Do you know how weird that is?

Required fields are marked *

It is also complicated. Should Yoon & MR decide to start the relationship... Will Yoon & Tae Sang frienship still stands IF there is breakup between Yoon & MR one day?

If Yoon hurt MR, will Tae San able to befriend someone who hurt his beloved sister?

If MR hurt Yoon, will Yoon able to stay friend with a brother who reminds him of the woman he loves hurt him?

I cannot blame Yoon for keeping MR at arms length..

I too cannot blame Tae San for wanting to protect his little sister.. he is indeed a great brother

Dong Hyub is YS high school delinquent student. It seems he has a crush on her since the beginning. DJ has no clue yet. It will be so interesting when he finds out, and not to mention the fact that he's her favorite student as well. At least it seems like it.

I really do love this show. But PLEASE drama, no dreaded disease. PLEASE! There is plenty of story without it. No need to go down that road.

I'm still the biggest Yoon/Me Ahri shipper around, so I can't wait to see what happens with them.

But I did feel some real chemistry with Do Jin/Yi Soo this episode too. That scene on the couch was smokin'.

I still hate Se Ra with the power of a thousand suns. And it's making me not like Tae San much either. I didn't like how either of them treated Yi Soo this episode.

The married couple continue to amuse, but I did feel genuine sympathy for the wife this episode. I wonder what's going to happen there.

I am in love with this show. It was worth the wait, but sometimes I still remind myself of the show's writer, because I didn't like all her works.

There was a scene in this episode after Yi-soo left Do-jin's place (the hot couch scene that I keep replaying over and over again) that she was walking outside and acting too cute. I hope her character downplays this side of her because I find it annoying. For goodness' sake, she's supposed to be a 30-something-year-old. She should be all red and flustered after that couch scene with Do-jin.

Anyway, episodes 7 and 8 were a bit slow for me; they were more serious compared to the past episodes, so at least I won't get too excited to wait for the weekend.

As for Yoon-Me Ahri couple, who here is reminded of the Emma-Knightley pairing? Knightley is older than Emma by 16 years, and he remembers holding her when she was a baby. I don't want to analyse and compare their characters now, but I first thought of Emma and Knightley with this age gap.

And I thank this show because I have fallen in love again with Jang Dong-gun. You ahjusshi, you. <3

Ahem. I think this is my first time ever...taking into account Colinboy and amazing myself as I agreed with him. I also DO have a weak stomach!! Talk about manners.

This is something that I keep seeing in k-dramas so it's not that nouveau to A gentleman's, and it makes me wonder what underlying issue they have about it. Women tend to pig out. And they are the ones that get sloshed. I don't find it funny but at least now I cope with it.

I remember I had to quit watching Kim Samsoon (my baptism into Korean drama) on one ocasion Samsoon spewed rice of Samshik's face. So, I left Samsoon and pledged my time to Coffee prince...until the café's oler owner did that wet towel/feet gimmik mid dinner. That I became a believer and a steadfast follower, I will for ever be grateful to Obgyn docs and smoldering sexy hot paediatrician.

romantic interest pigging out, binge-drinking, wearing un-sexy clothes, not dolled-up are all tropes to showcase that the average char-lady is actually a breathtaking cinderella hiding right under the hero's nose.

agree that its been done to death in KDrama land and elsewhere....in this drama too there was a subtle indication that Tae San (who likes sexy drama queens) did not notice Yi Soo's hotness until she wore Maehri's short skirt in the picnic episode.

drinking is a cultural hot-potato in korea. office bosses are trying alternate morale-boosters instead of getting drunk after work. single women also tend to drink more than the average person. it also becomes a safety issue for women (sexual assaults etc).

i am a social-sipper (as opposed to a drinker) and fail to understand folks who get piss-drunk at social gatherings and behave abominably 9even if its a happy drunk). its not cool and people remember them for all the wrong reasons.

sigh. this drama is great weekend entertainment, if only i didn't have to see kim ha-neul in it. i definitely wasn't expecting to take such a strong dislike to her in this role- she was great in on air, and i've liked several of her films. but she's not pulling off this character very well in my opinion. it's the voice and it's the facial expressions. i cringe.

the actress playing maeri is really cute! like someone else commented above, she has way more chemistry with the four guys than kim ha-neul. or maybe if the actress playing se-ra had the main female role- she's a hoot as se-ra, and despite her pettiness, i do get where she's coming from and i think she will show us her better side soon.

i love jang dong-gun... but i do not, do not like do-jin's character. it's basically a kim joo-won #2. granted, do-jin is a bit more likable and i suspect that his illness might have been in part triggered by his divorce (yoon had said that being "betrayed," along with other things, was when his illness had developed). i suspect i'll like do-jin a bit more when the writer gives us more about him, but am i the only one who finds his pick-up/come-on lines rather squicky!? honestly, i'd run like a fox with a tail on fire if a guy said any of those things to me. *shudders*

overall, really entertaining watch, but too bad i'm not in love with the two main leads...

I am from the dislike group all the way. When omma required staff to viki's channel, she was the reason why I didn't want to take part of it. As much as I love to bits JDG, I couldn't bare the thought of her existence as his heroine. I know for fact that if KSR, KMJ, LJH and YSA wouldn't join in support roles, I would run from it I would run from it like a mine field. I HATE her character and I still get used to the idea of her as heroine, otherwise I will not be able to enjoy the interaction with JDG.

I find this to be a really good drama. The F-40's a nice change up from all of the plastic princes. Eager to see the match ups but most anxious to see who is Colin's Daddy.
