The King 2 Hearts: Episode 14
by girlfriday
I love a drama that lets its secondary characters shine, proving once again that a king is only as strong as the people who stand behind him. With sidekicks this good, who needs heroes?

EPISODE 14 RECAP
At the WOC, Jae-ha draws the USA ball and everyone cheers around them, as the team shoots nervous glances around the room. At the palace’s banquet to kick off the peace conference, Bong-gu’s minion peels off the label on the ball in his hand: “USA.” They chuckle, as evil villains are wont to do.
Secretary Eun flashes back to his conversation with Bong-gu, when he threatened to tell his upright son that his father is cavorting with the villain. Secretary Eun freaks out and counters that he’ll spill the beans about everything, which makes me think you don’t understand what you’re saying. You’re going to stop him from outing a secret alliance by… outing a secret alliance?
In any case, the banquet hall is filled with tension from both sides, as Jae-shin takes a deep breath and comes out onto the stage. The orchestra cues up and starts to play… Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries,” aka Jae-shin’s trauma-trigger. Eek.
She starts to tremble, and Mom looks over at Secretary Eun, asking why the music selection was changed at the last minute. Oh please don’t tell me you changed it. Aaaand, of course he did. AUGH. Ajusshi!
Flashback to the reason for Bong-gu’s threats—a simple song request for the orchestra. Now Secretary Eun shoots him a look, and Bong-gu makes a huh-face at him innocently. I’m sorry, but Bong-gu’s face, plus this music… anyone else hearing “Kill the waabbit, kill the waaabbit, kill the waaabbit”?
Jae-shin pulls herself together and approaches the mic anyway, which is exactly when Bon Bon the Butcher enters the room, right past Shi-kyung, and pops a chocolate in her mouth.
Jae-shin freezes and turns her chair around to get off the stage, but in her haste she hits something and falls right out of the chair. Flashbulbs go off. The guards scramble to block the view, and in the commotion, the assassin strolls right out.
Or so she thinks, until Shi-kyung follows his suspicious instincts and stops her before she gets to the door. Thank goodness for you.
Jae-shin’s fall ends up on the front page and the prime minister calls Jae-ha to tell him about it. He also adds that they have to let the U.S. win the WOC—they are important allies, and they can’t go around beating them in war games when they depend on American military support.
Jae-ha finds that ridiculous, besides which, the bigger problem is that they CAN’T beat them, even though they desperately need to. That’s enough to appease the prime minister’s fears for now.
Hang-ah marches up to Jae-ha and grabs his ring hand, asking what it’s made of. She and Dong-ha deduce right away that the USA ball was magnet-filled, citing a similar case in the World Cup.
She’s like, whadja wear that stupid ring for, anyway? Right? Stupid need for bling. But he says it’s the king’s ring, as in, must be worn for all official king business. Really? Then how come we haven’t seen it before? Just admit it went with your outfit.
He snaps back that SHE’s the one who said to just grab the first one he caught. She thwacks him in the chest, yeah, but if something felt off, you should have tossed it away! I love their adorable bickering. But it’s spilled milk anyway, so they decide to start strategizing, and look around for Kang-seok.
He’s busy sitting on the toilet, making faces. But he happens to overhear an unfortunate conversation, between two American team members and an Israeli soldier, who tells the Americans that they’re lucky to be matched against such an easy team, since Korea’s a war-torn country that has no chance of winning.
But by the time Kang-seok comes out all peeved, the guy who badmouthed North Korea for being aligned with Iran and made snide remarks about the Japanese occupation is gone, leaving the Americans to shoulder the awkward misunderstanding.
They try to clear the air, but Kang-seok is so riled up that he takes a friendly gesture as provocation (though I don’t know where in the States a pat on the back of the head is a way to greet a stranger), and he attacks. Oh no.
Cut to: Kang-seok getting bitchslapped by Hang-ah. Dayum. She rails into him for being so stupid as to raise a fist, and when he defends his reasoning, she just gets more livid, kicking and punching him as she yells that he’s risking everything for his pride.
She rips the Korean peninsula patch right off his uniform and tells him to get out. Aw, you can see it now, the regret on Kang-seok’s face, but it’s too late, and Hang-ah screams that he’s disgraced his country, and points at the door, shaking in anger.
Jae-ha comes out and stands between them, calmly telling her to stop. He says that he’ll handle it, and she apologizes for Kang-seok’s behavior. Jae-ha tells everyone else to leave the room so he can talk to Kang-seok alone.
Meanwhile the Americans kick up a fuss with the WOC officials and ask Korea to be banned from what was supposed to be a friendship game, which they turned into a brawl.
Jae-ha sits with Kang-seok for a while, and says that he knows what Hang-ah is like, and she’s under so much pressure. Kang-seok says it’s okay, but Jae-ha prods—yeah, but truthfully didn’t it piss you off to be hit like that, without her listening to your side?
He has to prod a couple of times and Kang-seok finally does agree that the hitting was kinda sucky. As soon as he admits it, Jae-ha asks how he thinks the American soldiers feel then. They were just going to the bathroom and got struck by lightning, out of nowhere. Ha, so smart.
Jae-ha suggests that they apologize, and says that if Kang-seok doesn’t feel up to it, he’ll do it himself. Even Kang-seok doesn’t think it’s right for the king to be apologizing, but Jae-ha says too much is on the line—the monarchy, their countries’ peaceful coexistence.
“Hang-ah and I would have to be split apart. We wouldn’t be able to see each other for the rest of our lives.” Kang-seok looks over at him, struck by what is probably the first display of sincerity he’s ever seen from Jae-ha.
The team minus Kang-seok lines up face-to-face with the U.S. team, as the WOC declares that Team Korea will get ten points deducted for their misconduct. Well that sounds fair. But the American general is hungry to turn this into some international incident, and decides he wants a formal apology from Jae-ha, as king.
The Korean general tries to stop him, but Jae-ha is willing to comply, whatever it takes to get them back in the competition. So he addresses them as the king and begins the apology, biting down on his words…
And then Kang-seok storms into the room to interrupt. He bows at the waist and offers his deep regrets and asks that they forgive him just this once. The American soldiers in turn apologize and bow.
The only one who’s still upset is their general, but the U.S. team leader declares that it’s enough for them, and puts out his hand to shake Jae-ha’s, and then they all hold hands and sing kumbaya. Okay, maybe not, but it’s just as cheestastic.
Shi-kyung is busy interrogating the suspicious girl whose pockets turn up a recorder and a bag of chocolates. He says that they’re drugs.
What? You mean those are funny chocolates? Uh… wouldn’t that make an assassin kinda lazy? Or even maybe forgetful of who her target is? Dude, I totally came here to kill someone… I think… Ooh pretty lights!
She thinks they ought to check, and eats one, and then has an orgasm. This is the strangest interrogation ever. Don’t you people have handcuffs?
He reaches for the recorder and she slams her hand down on top of his, and leans in close. She tells him that there are endless ways to kill a person, and says that recent work involved a sunset and a fireplace. Clearly not afraid of getting caught for her crimes.
She says that she’s working on a new idea—death by fear, panic, and calls herself an artist. What sells it is Shi-kyung’s reaction, because he takes her at face value and thinks back to Jae-shin’s reactions both tonight and back in the ambulance. Finally, someone making connections! He orders them to cuff her. You sure did take your time with that.
He asks Jae-shin to ID her photograph, and says that the woman has been in country three times, and the dates conspicuously match up with Jae-kang’s killing, the ambulance incident, and now tonight’s appearance. Excellent. This is why you’re on the case, smartypants.
Though she can’t remember anything from the night of Jae-kang’s murder, she does remember the ambulance and tonight. He shows her the photo. It instantly strikes fear and she nods. That’s the one.
She asks if he has enough to detain a foreign national, and says that she’s not ready yet to testify in an official capacity. What? Okay, I was sympathetic to all your fears up till now despite the princessy behavior, but you won’t testify to try and catch the person who might be responsible for killing your brother? Seriously? He says he won’t push her to do so.
Shi-kyung returns to his office to find Dad lurking around in the dark. He demands to know why he’s being a cowboy and holding foreigners without proof. Shi-kyung tells him that she’s an agent of Club M, the people behind the king’s murder.
Dad flips out and tells him to back off, and Shi-kyung just pushes back, “Father, what are you afraid of?” This, actually, as is written all over his face. He grabs the phone and orders that Shi-kyung be reassigned outside the palace at once.
Way to show your hand, Dad. Now he won’t suspect you AT ALL.
But Shi-kyung just whips out his top-level clearance card, given directly by the king. It supercedes Dad’s orders, so he’s going to continue with this investigation and Dad can’t stop him. Niiiiiice.
Bong-gu takes a leisurely bubble bath and delights in everything proceeding according to plan—the WOC (which he insists they allow to be played fairly, since there’s no chance in hell Korea’s winning) and his assassin’s “capture.”
Meanwhile Team Korea takes a boat to a deserted island, where the games will take place. Jae-ha braces himself, repeating over and over that they can do this. Hang-ah agrees. And then he breaks down and whines, “Aaaaah, it’s the U.S.! What are we going to do?” Hee.
The rules of the game are simple: both teams get dropped off on the island, and each team is given one set of keys. The only way off the island is one raft boat, requiring two keys to unlock. They have to get the other team’s key and get off the island to win. In the case that neither team gets to the boat in time, they’re scored on a point system.
They pack their gear, which each person gets to choose among their supplies, as long as it’s under the total weight limit. So… no rocket launcher for Kang-seok? Boo. Jae-ha and Hang-ah put their peninsula patches on each other with smiles, and they arrive on the island.
Each general, North and South, leads his team in a different cheer, and Jae-ha laughs that maybe they ought to work on reunification on the go-team cheer front. Heh.
Shi-kyung gets briefed on Mia (thank goodness, she has a real name), who goes by “Bon Bon” in Club M. She’s British SAS-trained, and yes her chocolates contain drugs, but they’re laced with something they can’t even identify.
The prime minister calls Secretary Eun in a panic—Club M is holding a press conference. Oh no! Not A! Press! Conference! Sigh. Shi-kyung watches as Bong-gu’s minion demands their agent’s release, and Dad storms in to give him a big I-told-you-so.
It’s a friggin’ dude in front of cameras, not a sign of the apocalypse! But Dad insists he release the prisoner at once and apologize to Club M, because the palace’s dignity is at stake. I really think you ought to worry about your own dignity, sir.
The upshot is that Club M has the means to cause a giant ruckus over something like this, and it’s essentially bait that gives them cause to throw their weight around (and what Bong-gu wants).
Dad tells Shi-kyung to fix it, and lick the bottom of their boots if he has to. Great advice for your son, there. Lick the terrorists’ boots! For dignity! It’s seriously killing me how much you’re destroying your son’s devoted pillar of fatherly trust.
Secretary Eun personally bows in apology to Bong-gu, and then Shi-kyung comes in with Mia in tow. Bong-gu yells at him for mistreating someone he considers his own daughter, and Mia turns to whisper in Shi-kyung’s ear that Jae-shin begged for her life like a coward “that night.”
She asks if he’s slept with her yet, and coos that maybe he hasn’t because she’s crippled. Shi-kyung balls his hand into a fist, quaking in anger. Bong-gu thinks to himself, “Hit her! That’s it! Hit her!” And we see a camera trained right at them, hidden from view.
But thankfully Shi-kyung doesn’t fall for her bait, and tells Bong-gu that he regrets his actions, but maybe next time he comes to the palace, he ought to bring a more appropriate bodyguard.
He calls her insane, and names the incident that got her kicked out of British special forces. She glares and says that shooting was an accident. Shi-kyung: “Oh really? Then what about your mother’s death?” She snaps and screeeeeeams at the top of her lungs that she’ll kill him, as she gets hauled away.
Bong-gu watches all this with a keen eye, suddenly very interested in the tin soldier with balls of steel. He asks his name, and perks up to hear it. He turns to Secretary Eun: “Son?” Shi-kyung looks over at Dad curiously.
Bong-gu puts his arm around Shi-kyung and leads him to the next room, where he calls him sharp, and wonders why he’s wasting his time following Jae-ha around. “Why? Because he might spill a few leftover crumbs from his cookies? But he has no strength. Come to me. I’ll give you some. I have lots of cookies.”
Ha. Creepy Cookie Monster is weird but kind of awesome. You’re trying to buy the ONE person who can never be bought. Silly man, what’s a bot gonna do with cookies anyway? Shi-kyung turns to him without changing his expression, “I’m sorry. I don’t eat rotten cookies.” *GASP* So. Badass. Aaaaaah! I love it!
Bong-gu walks away with a grin, but it continues to bother him. He flashes back to Jae-ha’s video letter and his declaration that he has people who believe in him. Bong-gu mutters bitterly that it must be nice. I love that Jae-ha is STILL taunting him remotely, via Shi-kyung. It’s so awesome.
Back on War Games Island, the team discusses strategy. Jae-ha: “Let’s copy the key!” Hahaha. I will admit, that’s the first thing I would say. His team lets out a collective sigh. What, are they going to whittle a copy, out of aluminum?
He’s like, fine, we can just swim back! Hang-ah: “We took a boat for three hours to get here.” Jae-ha: “Did we?” Pffft. He adds that there’s a way around the kill sensor that they’re wearing, since there’s a digital reset.
Everyone gapes, and Hang-ah’s the first to call him out for his cowardice, saying that they have to win fair and square. Jae-ha’s like, what’s not fair in war? Was Yi Sun-shin unfair because he built turtle ships in secret? Ha. Well when you put it that way…
She counters that cheating is different in this case, and he’s the king. But Jae-ha’s got too much on the line to worry about ethics, and reminds her that they have to WIN to be engaged. He takes her hand.
But she turns to him, resolute, and pulls away: “I’m sorry, but I won’t be engaged that way. I want a man I can respect. I’ll only get engaged if you win fair and square.” Jae-ha asks, pained, “Respect? Then what am I? A coward?”
She looks away. So does Kang-seok. Dong-ha averts his eyes. Damn, there’s your answer. He steps away as Hang-ah and the rest of the team plan their next move.
But the Americans have been descending on their bunker this whole time, and they reach the perimeter. They shoot a putty camera at the window and watch. Inside, the team asks who should carry the key.
Jae-ha tosses it on the table, still pouting that he doesn’t want the responsibility since he’s a pathetic coward, and asks “Northern team leader” for the easiest assignment. She turns to him, “Are you going to be this pissy the whole time?” HA.
He says it’s his strategy, and suggests games to determine the key-bearer. They finally play rock-paper-scissors, and Young-bae loses. He doesn’t want the responsibility, but Jae-ha just pats him on the head and says the dumbest-looking one should carry it so they’ll never suspect. Ha. Don’t be mean to Young-bae!
The problem is, the Team U.S. sees this whole exchange, so they know exactly who to gun down for the key. Team Korea splits up into three pairs, with Jae-ha and Hang-ah fighting over who gets to drive the ATV. (“I’m still the man!” Well if you have to say it like that, I dunno…) They head out in different directions, leaving Young-bae and Dong-ha at the base. Noooo!
As soon as they’re alone (and Dong-ha sits on the toilet), they get ambushed. Young-bae scrambles and hides under a desk, but eventually gets discovered, and with no other choice, he pulls the key out… and swallows it. Whoa. Hardcore.
Team Korea reassembles in the aftermath—no Young-bae and no key. They technically haven’t lost yet, since the Americans have to get the key out of their prisoner, which they can’t do if they “kill” him. Young-bae screams at them to go ahead and try to get the key, and yells, “But guess what? I’M CONSTIPATED!” Hahahahahahaha.
He tells them they can wait all day, but he’s not going to be pooping on their watch, and then the Americans have a debate about the best way to make him defecate, which I swear, I’m not making up.
Apparently they think the characters need to be racist to make us root against them (lame), and so they launch into theories about how Asians must be structured differently because their eyes are different. (Cringe, cringe.) And also, what the hell does that have to do with intestines?
Anyway, it makes them sound like idiots, which I guess is the point (thanks, oh-so-subtle writing), and then one of them takes out a swiss army blade and Young-bae freaks out. They hold him down and open his shirt, and he screams.
But they’re not psychos, and they tell him to calm down—they’re just going to give him an enema. Ew. Ew. Ew. Don’t you guys have laxatives or something?
Hang-ah discovers the camera and then Jae-ha answers a call from the other team, telling them to give up. They say they’ll have the key in a few hours, so there’s no use. That finally angers Jae-ha enough to light a fire under his ass.
Speaking of asses, the key is out. Aw, poor Young-bae. Ow. Ow.
The U.S. team heads to the shore like it’s in the bag, only when they get there, the boat is nowhere to be found. Score one for Team Korea. Elsewhere, Hang-ah and Not-Shi-kyung come ashore with scuba gear.
The Americans split up, and Kang-seok baits two of them, drawing their fire. Dong-ha and Jae-ha sneak into the U.S. team’s bunker and while Dong-ha keeps an eye on Young-bae, Jae-ha gets to work building something out of a lightbulb and his cell phone. Are you making real bombs? Is that kosher?
As Hang-ah rides through the woods, we hear Jae-ha tell her in voiceover that this mission needs teamwork, and it’ll never work if they don’t trust each other. “Trust me. And I’ll trust you.”
COMMENTS
Well, not the most suspenseful ending that could have come out of that scenario (you couldn’t give us a nice mission-fail cliffhanger?) and not the most eventful episode given the amount of story we usually get crammed into an hour. But I like the return to the WOC team and all the personalities pitted against each other, and I love that Jae-ha has an arc even within the games. He’s the guy who’s going to go for broke, rules be damned, which makes him a cheating coward at the outset (a nice callback to the whiny prince of yore), but he’s the one to come up with the crazy twisted plan when push comes to shove.
While other people are straight-shooters, Jae-ha comes at everything sideways, which is a great source of conflict for the couple, and also gives him the best chance of turning the tables on the game. I liked their war ethics debate, because it’s literally love and war compounded into one scenario—what’s fair, what’s right, and how do you walk away with both the win and the girl? Jae-ha thinks all he has to do is win to get both, but Hang-ah makes it clear that he has to win with her respect intact, otherwise, it’s moot.
And that’s a relationship I can root for, because she’s forcing him to be a better man. (I love that the second Hang-ah confirms his love, she constantly uses herself as the carrot—I won’t marry you unless you beat Bong-gu, and I won’t marry you if you cheat to win.) The war games are just a metaphor, but it’s an extension of what kind of king he’ll be—will he be the kind of leader to win at all costs, even without honor? Or will he live up to her challenge to be fair and honorable and still succeed? It’s counter to his instincts, but that’s why she makes him a better person by challenging him. She’s uncompromising in the same way that Shi-kyung is, and while the rest of the team might have turned a blind eye and let him have his way, she doesn’t let him get away with anything.
There are actually a lot of parallels between Hang-ah and Shi-kyung, especially now that they serve such similar functions for the pair of royal siblings. Take Jae-shin, for instance, who gets handled with kid gloves by her family, but gets taken to task by both Shi-kyung and Hang-ah in crucial ways, with no leeway for her self-pity. Without them forcing her to face her fears head-on, she might never be on the road to recovery. And that uncompromising stance is the perfect antidote to Jae-ha and Jae-shin’s entitled upbringing. Like Jae-ha learned from his first love, all everyone sees is their titles. But someone like Hang-ah doesn’t give a rat’s ass what your title is, but she DOES care if you’re going to be a cheating weasel. How kickass is a heroine who can say, Be a man I can respect, or else I walk away?
I actually found myself wondering what Shi-kyung would have said during the all’s-fair-in-love-and-war debate, but mostly I can only picture him gasping at Jae-ha’s suggestion to cheat, all quivering lip and pouty, “Jeo-haaaaa!” Perhaps it’s better that he wasn’t there. At first it did make me sad that he wouldn’t be in on the team reunion, but when we got our first Shi-kyung/Bong-gu scene, I realized how much more he’s doing as the lone good guy, left to deal with all the baddies. It tickles me to no end that Bong-gu immediately saw his value, and made him an offer to join the dark side, only to be slapped in the face by his loyalty to Jae-ha. *FIST PUMP* I will savor that moment for a long time to come. I always knew you had it in you, Earnest.

Just read this article below about HJW and feel sad for her.
http://dramahaven.com/ha-ji-won-last-love-8-years-ago-with-total-only-2-times/
Actually, in ep13 when JH was recounting his first love, I was thinking about what they, both LSG and HJW, thought about the lines. Did they hit a little too close to home because they pretty much apply to them, in real life, too?
As celebrities, they must also constantly wonder if people get close to them or like them just because of their status. I'm sure it can get pretty lonely too. That's the price of fame.
Really hope that both of them can find true love, just like JH, a person who loves them for who they really are. As a die-hard romantic, I simply believe life is not complete without someone to love and share all your ups and downs.
Wishing them all the best in this...Muack!

LOL babes i was actually reading an article earlier about OUR ha ji won only having 2 relationships and the last one being 7-8 years ago.
Then again, she has the privilege of kissing some of the best lips in the entertainment bizz.
Comes to show that you don't need as much experience when it comes to love in order to portray it well in acting.
KUDOS.
But i hope she finds true love one day, just as all her characters have.
Her hard work is much deserved

I read that article too, isn't it coincidental? Seung Gi said he only has been in two relationship too, and both of them is before he debut (which I think quite unbelievable judging from how he kiss her *slapped*)
But if yes, I think that's what happen, their status as famous celebrity make them wondering do their partner love her/him self or is it their status. Pretty sad, many of the celebrities do so. I hopw both of them will find their true love. SOON!

I don't know. Am I such an innocent girl or what that I believe what seung gi said about his relationships? I believe he dated twice prior to his debut and no relationship after that, until now.
He's a working/studying hard type, a kind of someone who reads book, searches the internet, asks around, watches TV/DVD to learn something. The improvement in his kissing department, in my opinion, is more because of his learning by seeing (or watching?^^) strategy. Hehe.
I remember in one of his fanmeetings, he talked about dating.
http://lsgfan.wordpress.com/2010/11/15/news-clips-nov-2010-zipel-fan-meeting-videos/
I still think that he hasn't had any relationship, yet. Hehe.
Hopefully his future girl/wife is like Hang Ah who loves him for everything he is, not because of his title.

Oh yes....I remember in one of 1n2d episodes his manager said that Seunggi watched adult video a lot. LOL Besides, he watched lots hollywood movies which offer passionate kisses.
He admitted couple of times (to an interview back in 2007 if I'm not mistaken and to his hyungs in 1n2d when they were travelling somewhere in Autumn 2009 )that he watched those videos. So, as an innocent fan as you, I believe Seunggi, a notoriously hardworking person, is practicing the recent-advanced-kissing-scene from what he has observed and learned. :D

Haha...go..go..innocent fans!
Yes, a fan also asked that question in Yoon Do Hyun radio. He said yes he watched it. But, not THAT kind of video what I mean. As you said, perhaps he watched hollywood movies to analyze how to kiss. Haha. What am I saying?

@windmill-by adult video, do you mean porno? NOoooooo! Think he probably meant kissing scenes in regular Hollywood movies, right? Sob, sob....pls don't tarnish his rep!
Talking about kissing, it occurred to me that these poor dears only get to kiss during filming...guess having hot co-actors make up for it, heh?

@osi @windmill:
WAIT..wait..wait...so does it mean..I'm not innocent?? *sobbing-weeping* You are mean *pout*
Tbh, I'm happy if seung gi is as Innocent as seen. but I'll be very happy if he has relationship. Remember his story about writing lyrics 'Yeonae Shidae' in Japan? When he feels so lonely? That's what makes me, secretly wishing, hoping, that actually he has a real girlfriend, don't let him just down like that.
@babes"
Yes...unfortunately it is. Seung Gi watch 'yadong' too. There is cut about this conversation in 1n2d spread in youtube, unfortunately, KBSW cut this part, but I remember someone recap this, and finally I found this. Babes, you must watch it! When he admitted it, he is so sincere, so honest, but afraid that it'll tarnish his image too. But in fact, it's not! It just make him one of a honest TV personality I know. And watch how he said that...you'll feel you let it slipped, because..he is a male anyway. And boys will always be boys, rite? :) *overly biased to Seung Gi*-in good ways- ;p

No dear..you are innocent too, but not as innocent as us, Hahaha..*evil laugh
I just believe him in everything he said, at least until that fanmeeting, I believe he had no relationship after his debut. When he wrote 'Time for Love' to express his loneliness, until that time I believe he had no relationship with any woman, too.
I, too, want seung gi to have a relationship knowing how lonely he is. But don't you think having a secret relationship would be more stressful? Well, as long as he is happy, I'm happy.^^

" watched adult video alot "
I can just imagine seung gi just chillin on his couch watching a buncha love scenes.. @_@
This would actually explain alot how he was able to *swoon* kiss like THAT.
is anyone else looking super forward to the engagement kiss and THOSE arms wrapped around her waist?

@ ilikemangos
I am SO VERY looking SUPER forward, hehe.
Um, about watching that a lot, I think the word 'a lot' is too much (@windmill). I mean, he admitted he watched it (like any other boys out there), but I don't remember he or his manager said 'a lot' (I've already watched all episodes of 1n2d season 1, mostly from KBSWorld, and watched the deleted scene about seung gi watching 'yadong'). Hmm, am I too innocent? Hehe.

I deeply apologize for my word "a lot". I dont mean it to make it bad. I think my memory failed me for I watched that episode in 1n2d long time ago when seunggi, his hyungs, and all the managers had to play "Guessing movie game" for sleeping quarter (unfortunately, I dont remember in which episode). Then his manager said that seunggi watched only porn movie or something similar like that. I do believe his manager just teased him since it's in the variety show world. They need to be funny, right? In fact, Seunggi is always good in guessing Hollywood movies. Even the old ones. For you who are a fan of 1n2d season 1, you must know that the boys played guessing movie game several times.
Well, then in another episode of 1n2d seunggi admitted to his hyungs that he watched that kind of movie. Well, as his fan I dont mind about him watching it. I still love him A LOT, though :D

In that episode, if remember correctly, his hyungs was teasing him before that Seung Gi also watches those "movies", then during the guessing movies' titles games in which managers joined in, Seung Gi's manager was rather lousy so Seung Gi asked him didn't he watched a lot of movies and he replied he watched "movies"~
So Seung Gi's hyungs quipped that Seung Gi and his manager must have watched together~
To this, Seung Gi replied we don't watch together~ haha~

I think SG watches a lot of other movies and dramas. In one 1n2d episode, he mentioned the movie 'Inception", in another, he mentioned the Jim Carrey movie, (I forgot the title) where Jim Carrey's character was secretly filmed; he also seems to know the quotes from a number of k dramas. I think he just likes watching them.

I'm from the United States and being from here and knowing soldiers I like to view the "racist comments" the American made as a scare tactic. However, if the writers meant for it to be a racist slur I am not offended. Not all Americans are like that. There are racists everywhere so it's not that big of a deal because they could have very easily had another country say the same thing and it would still be messed up because let's face it he world is full of horrible people from everywhere.

I just wonder how many comments, especially those with harsh criticisms or with sweeping views, were written based on Girlfriday's recap (carefully read or not) and/or streaming without subtitles (for those who do not speak the language and with various degrees of understanding the content).
I think it's plenty clear right now TK2H is not your usual K-drama fare.
There is no "I wanna marry you, but my family just won't allow it," or "You hurt me before, now I hurt you." There is no just by taking one look, the gist of the scene can be guessed accurately.
The dialogues, the story line, the acting (yes, even those of the amateur actors), they all require attention and thinking. Sometimes more than once.
Every one is entitled to his or her opinions. But I just think that since this is an open discussion place, when we voice our opinions, it's highly likely that they are read and considered, and maybe eventually influence others in some way.
Give the benefit of the doubt - the TK2H team certainly earns that right in my view.
Just a wish from someone who loves the drama and this forum. Peace!

I too consider TK2H to be unconventional. It does not fit the standard KDrama mold. These types are rare and most of the time do not do well in the ratings. TK2H is different because of the draw of Ha Ji-Won and Lee Seung Gi; excellent script-writing and fanatic fans like us! Long Love the Unconventional! Hope to see more in the future!

There's something ominous about the Princess' memory. Just a thought: what if the Princess knows that the Secretary had something to do with it? How would she react then? Knowing Eun Shi Kyung is his son, that can't be good. Remember how she reacted with Hang ah when she thought HA had something to do with killing JK? Gosh, if SK heard it from her lips... that would be the ultimate heartbreak moment.

Thank you for the recap girlfriday.
I LOVE your analysis at the end of Jae Ha and Hang Ah and their relationship dynamic. You are so spot on!
Can I just say how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Hang Ah. I LOVE HER!
"How kickass is a heroine who can say, Be a man I can respect, or else I walk away?"
Exactly!!!! When Hang Ah was giving Jae Ha that speech about how he needs to win fair and square, with honor and dignity in order to have her respect and the engagement I was screaming, "Yes, yes, yes!" Hang Ah is so very awesome!
I'm so glad she schooled him because it would have been easy to just let him be a cheating coward under the justification that it's war....um, fake war.
Also that fake war scenario? What is up with that. A gold mine story wise, but it really, really puts a stretch on reality. Honestly a competition like the WOC can only end in disaster. There is no such thing as war *games* between people who are not on the same team. The reality of the situation as a game fades away and people assume the roles they are playing for real and then end up doing things they shouldn't given that it's a game. There have psychological studies (the Stanford Prison Experiment) that prove this - unethical psychological studies at that. I had no idea this show was going to turn into Hunger Games Lite. Is this alternate world a dystopia? WTH.
I was annoyed with episode 13, but episode 14 brought the Daebak factor back for me. Thank goodness! I hope Eun Shi Kyung takes Bong Goo to task. It's obvious Jae Ha will need both Shi Kyung and Hang Ah to beat Bong Goo and still be a human being we can root for and respect. It's really great that Jae Ha realizes how much the people around him support him and contribute to his success. Really I don't like Jae Ha. I just don't like him. Hang Ah and Shi Kyung are basically the reason I still give him the time of day because they are helping him become the King he needs to be. Plus I keep racking my brain thinking why did Hang Ah fall for him when he was so lacking in the beginning and is truthfully, still is in so many ways?
Most jerk leads I can ignore, but Jae Ha just gets to me because he isn't just a rich playboy, he actually has a great responsibility and so I want him to be able to meet it and rise to the challenge, but it seems just in his nature to look for the easy way out and well... kinda be a jerk about it, just like it's Bong Goo's nature to feel inferior and Shi Kyung's to be a straight arrow who puts duty above all else. I know I'm hard on Jae Ha, but so what! I'm not being unfair in the least bit. He's the KING! He should be prepared for at least that much criticism given the honor, power, dignity, responsibility, and privilege of the title he holds. I probably still won't like him by the end of the series, but at least by then he may be someone I can respect, trust and have faith in as the King.

@malta says "...that fake war scenario? What is up with that. A gold mine story wise, but it really, really puts a stretch on reality."
I wonder what is your definition of reality.
A king with honor, power, dignity, responsibility? A king who does not cheat, does not bend the rules, does everything by the book (what book?) Can you name one REAL example of that? Okay, not a king, a president? A world leader?
Things are not always black and white. One man's meat is another man's poison. Compromise is everything in a majority ruled democracy. I can go on and on about how a true leader NEEDS to play in the grey area sometimes.
Your view is really Utopian. What I love about TK2H is that it's trying very earnestly to give us some REALITY.

Judging from the tone of your reply it seems you're offended or at least annoyed by what I wrote...It's just my opinion. I simply agree with Hang Ah and want Jae Ha to be the best King possible that the nation can be proud of, love, and respect. I don't see what's wrong with that. I cheer every time she encourages him to be better than he has been in the past and make better decisions.
I don't have a utopian view. The criticisms I posted fall along classic Aquinas ethics. It's a way of understanding the world and how we should act in it that's been around for hundreds of years. I didn't invent that wheel at all. Look, everyone can't be good all the time, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna tell you to go ahead and be bad! I'm gonna tell you to TRY to be good and surely because we are human and life isn't all nice and tidy, we will fail at it sometimes...many times...often times, but you have to TRY to do what's right. It's messed up to start off with I'm going to cheat my way to my end goal.
And the WOC competition is unrealistic for the world you and I live in. (Israel and Iran playing a "friendly" war game! Now that is naive.) Like I said, maybe it is realistic for this alternate universe where there is a monarch in South Korea, but a little bit more back story as to why the WOC is so important in that alternate universe would help to explain why our characters, including Jae Kang, *chose* to invest it with so much importance. The WOC does fit into the story well as one way that the North and South can come together, but it will take more than just winning the competition for the two countries to unite.

@malta, I respect your opinions. That's why I am responding to them.
You stated very clearly that you don't like Jae Ha the character. I am saying the reasons why I like him. Or if my wording was too obscure, the main reason I like him is because he is not cardboard, not a compilation of lofty ideas, but seems very real, with flaws and imperfections. Those make him a very interesting character. And I believe he reflects what a real leader would be like, at least as closely as possible in K-drama land.
I guess I was questioning whether it is reasonable to judge a character using absolute values. Sure, Jae Ha changes and grows. But will he ever turn into a "good" king in your book? One who is a straight arrow in everything? I say if he does become so, I will be very disappointed in the writers.

Let's see this from another angle. Usually when one needs to survive or win badly, he reacts based on his basic instinct. And we all know what is Jae Ha's character from day 1. He certainly know how to behave like a king in public, but he is not Jae Kang, and he cannot be overnight just because he becomes King.
When in discussions with his teammates, they are those who he trusts and who have seen his worst anyway, he give his ideas freely and not just saying the right thing just because that's how a king should be. But did he insist on it, no he didn't. I'm sure if he hear himself again, it would have sounded just as ridiculous to him too, haha. That's the fun part in TK2H watching how Jae Ha grow up isn't ?
About fairness in WOC games, then we should all have started on equal playing field. No ipad , no wireless eyes, the organizers should have issued same combat boots same weapons etc. No injuries allowed ? Then maybe everyone should just play war game on a computer....
... so much discussion on this ep. I'm happy we shared our views on racism and now ethics, restrained or passionately, so much that we forgot (I'm guilty of this too) this is also a fun sometimes over the top drama too.

Sorry, just want to put this scenario up for consideration.
Suppose King Jae Ha, President Obama, and PM Noda are in a room to discuss fair trade agreement.
First of all, what does the 'fair' mean to those three people?
Yes, being fair is an important virtue. And as human beings, we should be one big happy family.
We all know that. But, Obama would think benefits to the Americans the most important aspect in his considerations. Noda would think of the Japanese. And if King Jae Ha did not think of the Koreans, he is not fit to be king.
It's each man for his own team.
Arm twisting? Backroom deals? Threats (maybe veiled ones so to take the sting away a bit) and not so honorable compromises (like two countries go together to beat on the third one)? You bet!!! It's done before. It's being done right now. And it will be done in the future.
That's not amoral. That's reality.

"Fair" in the WOC competition means following the rules of the game that were given out by the WOC officials. Fair in real life, as you pointed out is a little harder to define, but IMO not impossible to define. That's for another day though. I don't think it's asking too much that Jae Ha lead his team to victory in the WOC without cheating. It's pretty basic IMO. Just think of the consequences if everyone found out they cheated...disastrous. They would become a laughing stock and be seen as pathetic- worse than if they just failed the mission completely.
I don't know what would happen in the scenario you gave, but the WOC isn't a fair trade agreement. It's basically a "sport" (err, war game) competition and I for one, want the SK team to win against their rival based on their own ability without any tricks and to show their true ability to the other teams. I'm rooting for them and I think they have a legitimate chance of winning against the US team within the rules of the game. (Classic case of rooting for the underdog because "there is magic in the air." Who wants to root for an underdog who cheats? That's no fun.) Plus it is in the SK team's interest to win while following the rules so I don't see where the issue is...
We know somehow the team gets through the competition because there have been spoiler pics of Jae Ha and Hang Ah's engagement. I don't know if they get through it by winning the competition outright or if something else happens, but I'm willing to bet the writers didn't make the team advance in the competition by cheating.

Just my thoughts:
Sometimes we want our heroes to be morally just, upright, and flawless in dramaland because in reality, most people aren't like that. What I can appreciate from this show is that they give us a dose of reality which I feel the viewers can very much relate to. Jae Ha still has much growing up to do, but I appreciate how he's different from his upright brother because that is precisely how he can face an enemy like Bong-gu and the rest of the powerful countries who doesn't want a North-South reunification, in the sense that he's much more shrewd. He is not afraid to play dirty, but thankfully Hang-ah will be there by his side to keep a tight rein on him. Also, people (unlike in so many dramas) cannot miraculously change overnight, or in such a short time. We tend to lapse into our old behaviour sometimes when faced with a moment of desperation.
Sometimes we don't know why we fall in love with the other person; we just do, despite many obvious, glaring flaws. Probably too much pheromones :P

True. Love doesn't make perfect sense, but I'm still like...why?! Futile, but whatever.
I like that you characterized Jae Ha as shrewd. I can accept that characterization better than some of the others, that he's an anti-hero (he's not actually bad enough to be one and he isn't anti-authority...he's the King so he is the establishment authority) or that he's machiavellian. I think Secretary Eun is machiavellian and he's not very attractive at all. Usually shrewd is paired with serious, but his shrewd is paired with goofy, and being kinda lazy about how things get done. Weird combination. I think his shrewdness needs to be paired with a moral grounding to beat Bong Goo, hence why he needs all the people around him.
Still, it just gives me pause when people insist you have to do wrong to fight wrong. People call it naive, unrealistic or utopian as a tactic to dismiss the idea that it actually matters whether or not the things you chose to do are good or bad, but it still matters. I can understand fighting fire with fire, but please don't become an arsonist and Jae Ha has exactly the kind of personality to become an arsonist. This is why I want him to try to win the WOC competition fair. Even during the competition he is still learning how to fight and surely he will take what he's learned to how to fight Bong Goo... I do think you can be cunning and fair, maybe not all the time, but at least shoot for it. It's hard, but one example is when the SK team took the boat. It was an unexpected and genius move that put the US Team into a total panic and it didn't break the WOC rules.

I don't agree about doing wrong in order to fight wrong too, you just have to be um...more morally resourceful?
Your comment about the arsonist just reminds me of the time NK shaman on TV said Hang-ah is on fire in her vision, and Jae-ha should help her but he just pours more gasoline on her. LOL.

I think that whether or not you *have* to fight fire with fire, Jae-ha is the type of person that does not back down from a fight and will use whatever means necessary to protect what is important to him. He and Bong-gu are very similar in this way. What prevents him from being a Bong-gu or a strictly Machiavellian "prince" are 1) that he's not ambitious or power-hungry, and 2) the people around him. Jae-ha did not seek out the throne; he had it thrust upon him, quite literally. As he recognizes, he is nothing without his family and Hang-ah (as well as the Korean people), who keep him in check when necessary (see: Hang-ah in this episode). What keeps Jae-ha from being an anti-hero is that he is driven by the desire to protect those closest to him, and to carve out a happy life for himself. He isn't a noble idiot who feels the need to sacrifice everything he has in the name of "public service" (which is all well and good, but not as interesting to watch IMO), nor is he driven by the desire to amass wealth or power, like Bong-gu. Frankly, I think it's Jae-ha's tendency towards laziness or apathy that endears him so much to us and prevents him from being an overly terrifying figure. "Shrewd" is the perfect descriptor for Jae-ha.
I also get the sense that Jae-ha is a moral relativist in that he views his obstacles as problems to be solved and approaches them strategically, without much regard to what is "right" and "wrong." Fortunately, he seems to implicitly recognize this in himself and has surrounded himself with people who keep him in check when necessary (Hang-ah and Shi-kyung. That he welcomes these people into his life and that he respects them enough to listen to them (even if he does so begrudgingly) makes him a true hero, in my mind--not the fact that he himself is perfect, but that he knows what his flaws are and compensates for them.
That said, I do agree that cheating during the WOC would've had disastrous consequences for them. Outside of the context of this "game," I think that questions of "right" and "wrong" are much more nebulous, but trying to cheat a game that is being monitored 24/7 seems pretty stupid to me. Thank god Hang-ah knew just what to say to reel him in from off that ledge :).

I don't think of him as a bad guy either! And I don't think I'm just blinded by his charisma, either. He's a real, complex character with flaws and strengths just like any human being. He's growing into a truly amazing man, and that is just a joy to watch. It's telling that every time he's faced with a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, he steps up and does the courageous thing. At first, he did it reluctantly (enlisting in the WOC, completing the 60-km journey in North Korea), but now when the stakes are high, he willingly puts himself in the line of fire for those he loves (Hang-ah's pregnancy, confronting Bong-gu, re-joining the WOC, even potentially sacrificing his love for Hang-ah for the good/acceptance of the Korean people). And I think the fact that he feels so "real" to me (warts and all) means that his moments of honor and bravery get me right in the heart even more.

If I had to choose between JH and SK for my king and husband, I'll choose JH any time, cos he's imperfect. Sk's character though adorable, is too straight and unbending for my liking, not that I do not like people who are honourable. He would be someone too perfect to live up too and personally, too boring. Would want someone with a sense of humour and a fun n even naughty side. Em... Even for my king, I would like someone good, but with a personality that can play hard ball should the need arise, or else my country would always be bullied.

It's so amusing how people love this show. And how the character make us invested our emotion. Like how I love Jae Ha, and why you don't like him, I think it's all fair, because we love this show, and we had invested our emotion and put our self at their shoes.
It's so rare to find drama like gem like this, when we hate/love the character based on their character, not because of the writing I mean :)
Very glad to read your comment as different perspective among us here, and yes, deep inside my heart, I hope Jae Ha changing, but I hope no matter change he is he will keep being Jae ha...

Ha Ji-won just nailed the complex mixture of emotions that Hang-ah was feeling, the frustration not only at Kang-seok but also at the entire situation, the feeling of helplessness, the blind anger, the disappointment, the shame that she herself failed as team leader for not keeping her team in check. Oh, also! It's such a minor thing, but I LOVE the way Jae-ha interrupts things. He approaches Hang-ah so softly, with so much earnest empathy. He's not stepping in as a knight in shining armor or as the leader of the team, so much as he's giving her permission to pass the baton, so to speak. He's reassuring Hang-ah that he's got her back, that they have the same goal, that they're on a team and that she doesn't have to shoulder the burden of putting Kang-seok in his place alone because Jae-ha is her partner. It's like they're tag-teaming the leadership of the group, which is incredibly heartwarming. Seriously, these two may be my favorite kdrama couple ever.

guys, seriously. to those who think that what the american's say was offensive, dude, please go and watch russell peters. he's asian but says the most offensive asian stuffs ever. yet, it's all done for the sake of comedy. racism exists everywhere, no matter how much we choose to fight against racism and the writers are merely acknowledging it. so you've got to live with it or else you'll never survive with all the hatred boiled up in your heart.
besides, you know it's true. asians do have a different structure than caucasians despite the fact we're all humans. so, live with it.

Just on that note, when I was young I asked my family why it was OK for one of us to call ourselves names but if some outsider did the same, we would give them the beat-down of their lives. My mum told me it is because we can go home and beat the crap out of each other but we can't do the same to the stranger without getting arrested. LOL.
Russell Peters is hilarious and he takes (and gets away with) much of his humour because he is Asian. It's like we feel entitled if we call ourselves names because we earned it by living it daily. But woe betide someone not Asian who does the same because then it is racism.
I will not debate the rights and wrongs of this as each person's value system is different. It only become s a problem when we try to impose them on others.

true. but then again, think about it. by calling those similar to us 'ourselves' and those who are not similar to other 'someone else'.. isnt it discriminating as well?
why should there be 'us' and 'them' in the first place?
if there isnt a categorization of such, then the comment made would seem like a comment made between us, HUMANS. and so, it would seem like a comment made between 'ourselves' too, hence, it should be ok right?
get what i mean? if you dont, its ok.

I get what you mean but unfortunately, we live on earth and not utopia, where there are differences. While we are humans, the need to empathise by virtue causes segregation. It's an oxymoron and very much a chicken and egg situation. As you point out, who defines the "us" versus "them" and again, I come back to my point that it is for each individual to make that distinction if they choose. No one should feel they have the right to decide for others what their values are. We should live true to ourselves, without feeling the need to take from others.
And before you decide for us the "ourselves" definition I mentioned re my family, we are so notoriously mixed-race that we have always straddled gingerly between more than two worlds. Our "ourselves" is a huge joke in our family since we look a freakin' United Colours of Bennetton ad.
I respect your opinion but it's sometimes good to ponder the various possibilities and spare a moment to ponder the what ifs. And I still think Russell Peters is a riot although I think he might be a very tiring person if he was a friend. LOL.

LOL, same here, MrsB but I still thought his German was quite stilted and halting.
Mia, I think it might be because Korean uses more guttural vocalisation than English so Koreans seem to have less pronunciation problems with German? I also noticed that Malays seems to have less pronunciation problems with the Korean language as compared to the Chinese and I think it might be for the same reason.
It's all quite interesting, isn't it? Note to self: Stop revealing nerd instincts to DBers.

I agree Seung Gi's English is good compared to other leading men in K-drama, especially his pronunciation. And I think he was even better when he was in college. I saw an old game show where he was doing quiz with another girl who spoke fluent American English. Seung Gi could pretty much match her every step of the way. But now with him focus more on learning Japanese, he is a bit rusty. Still, this guy has language talent.

you definitely have a point, Korean seems to use a lot of the same sounds as German and vice versa ofc, ones that are different from English, the r sound or the eu/ü sound for instance
I tried to teach a friend of mine who is Canadian a few Korean phrases, it was so much harder for her to pronounce it, we couldn't stop laughing so we had to abandon the lesson
language is one of the most interesting things about watching kdrama for me, if that makes me a nerd, so be it :P it's a unique experience for me to listen to hundreds of hours of a language I don't understand at all, and even though I've only picked up a couple of phrases, the sound of the language is now very familiar to me, when I listen to music on my ipod and I don't pay attention I don't even notice whether the song is in Korean, English or French
I wish I had time to learn some Korean :(

I know Chinese, so I am using some learn Korean text books written in Chinese.
It's both good and bad. The good thing is there is some similarity in the two languages. So many phrases sound alike and I can get the meanings right off.
The bad thing is because of the similarity, interference comes in so I get confused or have a hard time remembering the correct grammar and/or about writing and pronunciation.
However, I love learning it. Korean is a beautiful language in its own right.
My Korean friends say watching K-TV (dramas, variety shows, music, etc.) will help a lot. So I am watching those with full justification!

Hehe, learning Korean is my not-so-secret way of justifying the insane amount of kdramas that I watch. I won't feel like I'm frittering away so much of my time if I'm using K-TV to learn the language, right? Right?! Heh, most of my language skills is also learnt from telly! Which can be dangerous, I tell you ...
I know some Chinese too and I noticed the similarity in some words, especially with Hokkien. I mentioned it to a few Chinese friends but for some reason they seem surprised. Like "chin jia" (spelling probably all wrong) which seems to mean the same thing in both language - "really/truly".
Telly is way under-rated for improving cultural adoption, I think. Like my German improved by leaps & bounds because I kept watching cooking programmes. I wow-ed all my colleagues when I went to restaurants and could order food like pro.
And because I like to watch Chinese wuxia drama, my Chinese is like saguek speak which can become really funny. Once mistook the Chinese word for "email" as someone talking about their flying brother coming in on a boat and a book.
My Korean has also improved by watching telly that my favourite Korean store owner is impressed by my increasing vocabulary. He did not know about Dramabeans until I told him about it and now he reads it occasionally. He asked how come these girls know more Korean dramas than him and he's Korean. Pfffttt.
But I find KTH the most interesting in terms of language diversity right now. Not because of the painful foreign dialogue but just the difference between North and South Korean speech patterns. So interesting! My nerdy self is happy.

@Duncerblur,
You are right about similar pronunciations of some Korean and Chinese words. Another example is newspaper, or shin mun (sounds like news in Chinese).
One friend is watching Bundesliga games to learn German. She said that's the best motivation ever!
I read some comments about the Eun Sr.'s English. In fact I find his to be very good. I can understand it without any problem. The distinguished actor, Lee Soon Jae, is pushing 77 I think. And TK2H is said to be his last but one show before retirement. And he still awes us with his presence, acting skills, English and German! What a great role model to us all!

I am no judge of good Korean or not. I just watched the interviews in the DVD bonus section and saw Jin praising her very sincerely.
By the way, LOST has amazing bonus materials. I wish when TK2H comes out in DVD, they put more stuff and thought in the bonus sections (like subtitles in interviews, duh!). It's a shame most K-drama DVD treat that as an after-thought. Or they don't think too highly of themselves? Well, TK2H is certainly worthy of the full treatment.

Heh, I wish I had the option to learn Korean when in school. Now I try to learn from K-drama! I love my excuses. But it is interesting how we assimilate language skills.
My grandfather actually managed to learn Hindi just from watching years of Indian shows. It's amazing but I realised there was a method to his madness when I found myself understanding bits of conversations among our Indian friends. It is the same with the other languages. If I play the telly in one language consistently, I find I can pick up the language sufficiently that I do not really need to read the subtitles to understand the gist of some conversations. Of course, that takes some time.
Language brainwashing ... hmmm, wonder if I can find some papers on this. Interesting ...

He's doing a more than decent job portraying an over-the-top crazy baddie that , that he's gotten us all hissing & cussing at his character. On the other hand , his right hand guy never gets the emotions right. Face contorted at the wrong time & range of facial expressions is extremely limited .Looks constipated all the time!Well , we know their spiel about lack of good foreign actors but they shd tried harder finding someone with a wider range of emotions .I dun believe there's no one better .

Well, I think that gopher is improving. In the peace conference he took out the WOC ball Bong-gu gave him and when he saw the country name he smiled. Then there's that exchange of looks between the two, wonderfully played by both.
I don't think he understands Korean. So perhaps a translator is on site to help him understand the PD's directions and everything that goes on around him. Not an easy working condition to make your acting perfect.
Love Yoon Je Moon. They should write a more beefy back story for him.

Of course. K-dramas are famous for same-day airing. It means that what you see at night was just cut and locked during the day. Can you imagine the actors receive pages of script (literally hot off the press) and only have time to read through them perhaps once before filming?
In that respect, TK2H is head and shoulders above. I think the script is done up to Ep. 19 at least. The filming schedule is like one or two weeks ahead.

Yes, that could be considered as weakness and strong point within K-Drama. Weakness because the actor&actress don't have much time to do real reading about their character, as @annmichelle said, hot press. Plus there is writer block which hard to avoided.
Strong point because as @Jane said, the writers could take fans consideration, and the story become flexible, although changing too much will have flaws too.
The best example is My Girlfriend is Gumiho. I remember how My Girlfriend is Gumiho shoot the last scene in the morning of the final airing day. But the writer consider fan's wish to not kill MiHo(which they actually intend to). This could accepted because they only change the ending and pretty fairly executed (though I nod my self when seunggi said he couldn't grasp full emotion when met MiHo again). But there are cases when the story was too much distorted by fan's wishes, usually happen in drama with high rating since midway. For consideration, take example: The Moon that Embraces The Sun (I'm sorry if there are fans here). Kim Soo Hyun's role get more scene than previously intended, because fan's wishes along with his rising popularity. As compensation, Jung Il Woo's role must be cut, which explain why we hardly see him in the drama. By this, JIW's character wasn't deeply presented than what he was presented to the viewers first, we should admit, his child presence(played by Lee Min Ho) even give bigger impact to the story then his adult role.
@Jane: By the point Shi Kyung...I saw spoiler yesterday, which I think is Shi Kyung & Jae Ha in airport, don't worry I believe Shi Kyung isn't dead (at least...until that episode)
@AnnMichelle: Do you notice that they don't film this drama in 'real chronological/sequences'? I remember the engagement party shoot was held at the end of April, but...please correct me if I'm wrong...the WOC scene in island seem was filmed at May 1st? -Based on the beach photo released- It's not a big deal actually, but if yes, then I become amazed again and again by the actors for able to grasp the right emotion without filming the chronological ways...

@reglest: Do you know by any chance in which episode the airport scene will be?
Aigo, meanwhile I'm so much focused on our Earnest Bot that I'm happy I can catch up about Jae Ha's and Hang Ah's character development by reading the comments here.
Oh, Shi Kyung, what have you done to me?? ô.ô
Although I didn't know it yet I always assumed Korean film-crews do filming and editing near-term to broadcasting time. But so close? I guess that puts the leading actors under huge pressure. What, if one of them falls ill?
Actually I'm not sure the writers are able to consider the reactions/wishes of the fans. The script is surely not just written shortly before filming but considerably earlier. Such a storyline is a complex matter, hence I can't imagine they will make substantial changes.
That's of course only my opinion. I don't know how they handle it for real.

Too bad, I don't know when the airport scene will aired either :( But I heard that is 'airport fight' scene, so I'm waiting for it
In fact, yes, that's what happened, the editing and the airing I mean I was quite surprised too when MGIG final shoot was spread at the morning when the final episode should aired, and the source is quite (if not very) reliable,tryp96. Since then, I realize what's the mean of 'on time' in South Korea. Another example is 'Sign' The editing was definitely in rush, viewers were complaining when the final episode airing (thought I read it in dramabeans too).
Regarding writing and fan's wishes/reaction, the writing is indeed considering fan reaction. I never see it, but apparently each drama in SK has its own Forum/message board, from what I heard the writers/production staff see fans reaction/wishes/critics/suggestion from there. When a drama start, the writer basically already has a plot, such as how it start and how the drama will end, but not the details. They only write few 1st episodes in detail, later episodes was merely a plot in order to get it modified according to fans request or fix it to increase the rating. Sometimes the broadcaster (if the drama was produced by the station TV) need to increase the rating badly, they don't even hesitate to change the writer, like what happened in Lie to Me
It's quite unbelievable, yes. But apparently that's what happened in the reality. I don't see it directly either, but from the news or drama, that's what I heard. I'd like to suggest drama ' On Air ' where the background works of a drama was portrayed as a reference about how close the shoot-editing-and airing of a show. The drama itself quite interesting, though I can't watch it til the end.

Regarding filming schedule, I think for a big production like TK2H, with so many location shoots, it's inevitable to be out of sequence. That's why preparation is so important. Like you said, actors have to get into the mood of the current scene; prop, wardrobe and set designers must be vigilant about continuity, etc.
Remember in one BTS, Jae Ha spotted one guy wearing a not totally black tie? They checked and confirmed that the scene was indeed after Jae Kang's death so the guy should be in mourning.
I am also amazed how they can give fresh and natural response take after take. I mean you have to look surprised or delighted or heart-broken after 10, 20 times??? Makes me appreciate good acting that much more.

Okay, this episode kind of pissed me off a bit, but I'll get to that in a moment.
First, my favorite scenes in this episode, were all Shi-kyung scenes. He is just so badass in all his earnestness that I melt whenever he's on screen. So. Cool.
Second, that Bon Bon lady is freaking freaky. She's crazy. Her last scene, where she was dragged away screaming, proves it.
Third, Bong-gu and Secretary Eun are both annoying as all heck, and I can't wait until they get what they deserve.
And Lastly, what the hell is up with this writer? Why does he/she have to make the white guys, the Americans, racist? Seriously. I am white and an American, and I watch Kdramas and listen to Kpop music, and I am not a fucking racist. That seriously pisses me off. Not all white people are racist! I hate that other people have to do that to Americans. Is it because of the Civil War and the fact that Americans owned slaves? Here's a news flash for you buddy: AMERICANS WERE NOT THE FIRST PEOPLE TO HAVE SLAVES! There have been slaves since the beginnings of human civilization. We're just the ones who had a war over it.
I know, this is really off topic, and I apologize to anyone who may be offended. But I just needed to get that out there.
Thanks for the recap, Girlfriday!

Dear Abbie, thank you very much for your perspective. We understand about your stance & perspective, and we really appreciate it. We believe not all of white people is racist as well, but we must remember that this drama is dark comedy, where we 'tries to laugh it off'.
Truthfully, about the thing you have complained is already discussed in the earlier two pages of this thread. And there is pretty interesting perspective from each DBers, which I could conclude by my self. If you still feel pissed off, I strongly suggest you to read each the comment. May it help to enlightening your feeling a bit :)

Lol, I am super late since K2H just ended recently and I have been marathoning while taking breaks to read the re-caps.
On the whole Americans/Yong-Bae thing, I was laughing the whole time (also American) mostly because it was SUPER ridiculous. But, yes they're are horrible people everywhere and so try not to feel offended at the bad eggs! Think back to how Hang Ah loves Brad Pitt, lol. I'm sure the writers weren't trying to insult Americans. I feel like even the Koreans in this show gets a stab more than once too.
And I noticed girlfriday said that we've never seen the ring on Jae Ha before. Actually, I've noticed that he does wear it sometimes in past episodes (I've always thought it was really pretty). So, it didn't just pop out of nowhere :D I thought that was well played, that Bong-Gu noticed the ring and decided to use it against him...that crazy bastard.
Really enjoying the show so far :)!

So Bong-gu literally was all, "Come to the dark side - I have cookies." And it didn't work.

When BG said he had lots of cookies, all I could think was 'Come to the Dark Side. We have cookies'. And here I thought it was Emperor Palpatine who was behind it all. ;) SK's reply ROCKED! Ooh, burn!
Patch=/=enema. Seriously, show, do your research. There's a BIG difference between a laxative and an enema. Your ignorance makes me laugh my ass off, but not as much as I would if the American team had actually given that poor boy an enema.
I'm looking forward to finding out what Korea's big plan is.
