Faith’s first stills starring Dr. Kim Hee-sun
by javabeans
Here we are, first stills from SBS’s fusion time-traveling sageuk (well, it’s other one) Faith, which is getting an early jump considering that it won’t air till August. Finally, a drama that can plan more than two weeks ahead of time!
Admittedly, this is the half I’m less excited about, since Kim Hee-sun is nice and all, but she ain’t no Lee Min-ho. Plus, his role is set in the more dramatic historical setting of the Goryeo Dynasty (spanning a time range from 700 to 1,100 years ago), so I’m betting his promotional stills will feature a bigger image transformation. Hold on, I need a minute to visualize him in sageuk garb, wielding a sword and generally being badass. *Daydreams.*
Okay, I’m back. In these stills, Kim Hee-sun is pictured in her job as a modern-day plastic surgeon. She gets kidnapped by a Goryeo warrior (Lee Min-ho) and taken back to his time 700 years ago and ordered to patch up a princess who has been attacked by an assassin. Ah, so we’re given a motive off the bat. It’s a compelling conflict, in that there’s clearly some element of control with the time-travel mechanism—on his end, that is—and refreshingly avoids Fates or Powers That Be jerking the humans around. (Aside from them enabling the travel in the first place.) And how did the kidnapper get access to the portal? That’ll be an intriguing point for drama to explore.
Park Min-young in Dr. Jin
And because the comparisons are inevitable, it’s interesting to juxtapose these stills with the new ones of Park Min-young, the doctor in rival time-travel fusion sageuk drama Dr. Jin. I tend to think Kim Hee-sun looks more at home in her doctor’s robes, but that’s probably because she has the advantage of age; Park Min-young still looks so young that I have a hard time buying her as post-collegiate to begin with. Doctorly authority is a little harder to project, whether you’re a real-life baby-faced doctor or just playing one on TV. But maybe her sageuk identity will fit her image a bit better.
In any case, I’m probably more excited for Faith than I am for Time Slip Dr. Jin, mostly because of my faith in writer Song Ji-nah (Sandglass, Story of a Man, Legend, What’s Up), and also because of its description as having quirky comedy elements, which seems unexpected and therefore intrigues me. And, okay, maybe a teeny bit because of Lee Min-ho.
We’ll get a glimpse of Dr. Jin first, though, since it premieres in mere weeks. Faith follows later this summer.

I wonder if this time Faith will have the same karma as City Hunter...
As you remember Fugitive -Plan B was almost a fail with the same synopsis as CH yet CH was the successful one

Kim Hee-sun is nice and all, but she ain’t no Lee Min-ho - This quote is EXACTLY what I was thinking. The stills are nice and all, but WHERE is my Lee Min-ho?!! I'll watch this one just for him.

I 2nd that comment and the "Kim Hee-sun is nice and all, but she ain't no Lee Min-ho" comment made me laugh out loud but, it is true, very true :-). Especially since on the pictures, gifs made by fans, LMH looks really good in sageuk clothes. August will be here soon enough and we will find out how the drama is like.

I'm hoping for a good drama of course, but I freely admit that I'll watch Lee Min-ho in a sucky drama just to watch Lee Min-ho. It's a sad truth, but I've come to accept it. :) The hot is just that strong for me.

Bring on another time-travelling drama! I'm used to them and loving the currently airing two so why not. :D
The doctor clothes really do suit her but like JB, I'm also eager to see some LMH.

Age gap is not the matter, it's the life stage gap here. She's a mother already, while he is still figuring out dating.

I think I'm more excited for Faith then Dr.Jin mainly because I have no faith(har har) in the cast of Jin. LBS is great but the two leads and of course the character description of a cold genius.
That's why the Japanese version will be far better,Minakata Jin wasn't a genius, he was a excellent surgeon who was driven forward in the hope of saving someone he loved.
And of course Jin had a great title song from Misia.

I'm interested in both dramas - since time traveling is where it's all at right now. LMH in sageuk garb I'm certain will be all sorts of hotness. I also do like SSH in his get up. Sure, I'm not fond of SSH's lack of good acting skills, but I still think it could be an interesting story. I do like LBS.
My expectations for Faith are much higher than Jin. Jin is up against GD so I'm thinking GD is going to win out in viewers anyways (?) ... maybe so I'm just going to enjoy Jin for what they give us. In terms of chemistry, if they have it, it can definitely work. I was really skeptical of HHJ and JJH in Dong Yi - but they were terrific. I feel like the age gap feels lessened when they are in sageuks. In modern times, I definitely would be uncomfortable with someone as young as PMY's character but she really isn't too young to be a resident.

ooh...the premise sounds mighty interesting to me now...I don't mind the gge difference one bit if we can get a K2Hesque chemistry between our leads....for once I'm glad that we're not going back to Joseon....I think this means LMH is definitely getting a mane of glory...can we have Bummie in sageuk with a MOG too please dramagods?!...that way the BFF trio would be complete
I do think this drama has big disadvantage though cuz it'll be the last of time traveling dramas to air...unless they have one more planned after this...LOL...but then one can never underestimate the power of Lee Min Ho's popularity

I am with you on this!
Just imagining LMH gets me all at twitter, and I don't even tweet. He just has that, what do you call it, hmmmmm ..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
OK, I'm back!
He has this low sexy thing that may have to do with his voice, his deep brown eyes, soft alluring lips, hands that look like they want to touch a girl, and that tall man's slouch - it kills me how he can be sexy because of bad posture.
I think that is part of the reason I'm smitten with QIHM's Ji Hyun Woo, too.

I wonder where the stylists for the K-drama get trained?
Most of the women leads who are usually non-chabol background have the worst hair styles and the wardrobe. Above picture shows the half-pony tail, half-WTF hair style no right-minded female will ever walk around with.
These style reminds me of the hair styles of the samurais, doesn't it? Except for the shaved parts...
Nothing wrong with a cute or simple (non-ugly) hairstyle even if you are dirt poor or you are always busy. If you have time for a samurai hair do, you have a time for a simple pony tail is all I am saying.
And the CLOTHES!!! I think they are trying for the "cutting edge" look, but it reminds me of 90's grungy look with layers.
I hope the girls (especially the leads) in the K-drama start dressing smart regardless of their supposed background. Smart doesn't mean expensive.

lol.... I do that hairstyle.... a lot of my friends do that hairstyle when we're busy... maybe it's just an asian thing. Since our hair listens very well... Plus, I don't think a doctor would have much time playing around her hands to be primping and proper anyways, would they...

I like JIN and I am disappointed in the Korean cast for JIN (and its writer) and I feel like it will be too painful to watch, so I am skipping it. As for Faith, the plot sounds kind of dumb...like, we have the loyal handsome warrior and a princess, right off the bat? Also, I just don't like Lee Min Ho.
I just want a good time travelling medical drama like original JIN! lol

I don't know about either drama...
I was more excited about the drama when Kang Ji Wan was signed on and the medicine aspect had a more magical, epic feel. And I have Lee Min Ho pegged more for an Iljimae type than a Goryeo warrior type. However, maybe this story will be better as a time travel drama and Western medicine in the Goryeo era, given that the writer have written some amazing stuff and now has had years to write the story. And this drama's got Kim Hee-sun dedicated to it for years - so that's a super plus!
Yeah, PMY looks more like a young lady starting her residency than an official doctor. Though her acting isn't top-notch, she has been improving. I think her acting if better than her 2 leading male co-stars, so this may be the drama for her to really shine, given the writing is done well.

For me, the good OTP is when I like the female lead...such as TEMTS...I love the OTP...because I like HGI..despite her lack of acting skills...because when it comes to male lead..they are all loveable..with soo many good actor in korea..hehehe..with hansdsome face to off course..just like PYC or KSH

Tried Dr. Jin, it made my stomach turn. Surgery is gross. Not even a bamf Jaejoong could make me stay. But, Minho may just be the key. I've stuck with Golden Time with Sungyun so Minho will probably keep me, too. I guess all a show needs is some carefully placed oppas.
