And now, for a look at Bridal Mask’s other leads
by javabeans
We finally get a look at some of the other cast members of KBS’s upcoming Bridal Mask—not that we mind seeing lots of Joo-won, mind—starting with second lead Park Ki-woong, pictured here at the recent poster shoot.
The drama is set in the 1930s amid the independence movement against Japanese colonial rule, which makes Park’s character particularly interesting. He plays Shunji, a Japanese police officer with Korean sympathies and a gentle demeanor. I wonder if that makes him a sympathetic “enemy” type, or an unconventional ally. Or is that splitting hairs?
More so than Park’s photos, though, I’m loving the ones of Han Chae-ah, which get me excited about all the period costuming to be showcased in the drama. Her character sounds like a much more clear-cut antagonist: She plays Chae Hong-joo, a spy posing as a seductive singer. She was adopted to Japan and comes to Korea to eliminate that pesky hero Bridal Mask, the masked crusader fighting against the Japanese. But complications arise when she falls for him instead.
Last but not least, we have Jin Se-yeon, the leading lady who romances Joo-won. She plays Mok-dan, she of the lively Candy personality (aka, smiling in the face of adversity, like all good heroines do). Unlike most good heroines, she is a member of a circus, which just may be the first time I’m hearing that description for a drama lead. Jin’s photos are sel-cas she recently posted, dressed in drag.
The hero breaks off their relationship when he chooses to take up the identity of masked, unnamed freedom fighter, and thereafter Mok-dan becomes “a woman who would risk her life to protect him.” A heroine, protecting a superhero? Now that’s something I can get behind.
Bridal Mask follows Equator Man on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Also a circus member as a heroine?... interesting!

IKR! The circus thing makes me giggle. Korean circuses...I image, are different from Ringling bros. No? haha
I'm liking every one in the cast and the general storyline so far (unlike Dr. Jin. WHY DOES IT SOUND BAD ALREADS??)

I'm a sucker for any period drama that's extremely visually appearing. I'd watch it just for the pretty.
Good thing the plot sounds pretty intriguing. I wonder how PKW's Shunji will turn out. Antagonist? Ally? Bromance?
Is this City Hunter set in the 1930's? Two sides in law and politics, but bonding in the name of bromance!?

Count me in as well!
I can barely contain my excitation for this project, even though I'm trying not to put too much expectation (my default mode)...
But, but...the 1930's! JOO WON!
I ♥ Han Chae-ah's style and the atmosphere her stills give off. Not quite digging Jin Se-yeon's but I'll wait to see how it plays out. Though I pray she'll twist the Candy curse. Please, have a spine honey!
I'll take a "Nana" type over a "Candy" one anytime!
I'm mighty curious about how they'll deal with the Japanese characters, given how sensitive the colonization issue still is in everyone's mind in Korea.
Oh, calmdowncalmdowncalmdown...

One of the actress looks like Kot-nim from My Daughter the Flower. How can she be in two shows at one time?

It is her. Yang Kot-nim from SBS Daily Drama, My Daughter Flower.
I like her in that drama, much improvement from her previous project.

You can totally tell she's loving her mustache and clothes. Shoot, so would I. That is one sweet suit. Heck even if the story leaves much to be wanted I'd still watch for the clothes.

After "Never Ending Story", I fail to see PKW as serious actor... I keep seeing him as adorkable-loving-manboy little bro with sweet-innocent smile in his face... ^^

Oh god, these stills (and selca) look fantastic! I can't wait for this drama...though I don't want our delicious revengy Equator Man to end either. Damn. But I'm really digging the costumes. Kinda meh on Ki-woong's hair, but hopefully he'll tie it or something. A mini mane of glory perhaps? But seriously I'm very intrigued by his character. I know PKW will play him out great. (seriously, this guy was the only character I cared for in The Musical.) And some bromance pleaaaaaaaaaaaase! :)

Haha, just when I was going to go hunting for Park Ki-Woong pics myself, the blog posts this. Thank you.
No gripes about the hair (or anything else) this time...I'm pretty sure PKW looks like those young men in the 1940s/1950s pics I've seen from the War, so I doubt culture had changed all that much.
Not that I really mind. But, imo, as someone interested in history, it's hard to be "in the moment" when things off set it.
That said, this looks really cool and I hope for ONCE PKW gets to shine the way he's supposed to, and that Joo Won will continue to grow into the actor I hope he's going to become.

slightly disappointed that Han Chae-ah's character isn't the female lead. Much more interesting romantic story there IMO,
plus I LOVE her. She's the third most badass K-heroine after Ha Jiwon and Kim Soyeon - and thats a good list to be on.
But still super-stoked for this show!! Hopefully, it will be adequate replacement for when TK2H ends.

I hope they keep the romance to a minimum though. Hopefully it's not too cheesy.

This drama plot kind-of reminds of a Chinese movie starring Donnie Yen and Qi Shu. I mean minus the cross-dressing circus member heroine.
Though I can't remember the name.

Why can't Park Ki Woong ever have a first lead role!! He has been playing second leads for ages but think he's talented and likeable enough to play a main role.
Besides from that I think the drama looks really awesome, I love the period look of it and that its different from the influx of Joseon era dramas. Also cannot wait for Joo Won to become totally kick-ass as the hero in this role.
