Will Suzy go Big or go home?
by girlfriday
Suzy? With Gong Yoo? Um… isn’t that stretching the boundaries of cradle robbery? Oh wait… I guess that’s the point… but damn. So the next Hong sisters drama is the upcoming KBS rom-com Big, about an 18-year old hero trapped in the body of a 30-something man. Yunno, all Tom-Hanksy with the piano feet. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I don’t want to be friends with you.)
It’s an awesome premise for a drama, and with Gong Yoo (The Crucible) as the frontrunner to play the hero, it’s basically going to be the bee’s knees. Because… um, knees are awesome like that?
So at first when I heard the news I thought they were considering Suzy (Introduction to Architecture, Dream High) for the heroine, a role initially offered to Lee Min-jung (Wonderful Radio, Midas). And then I broke into a cold sweat. But no, as far as I can tell, she’s been offered THE OTHER lead, as in the 18-year old girl the hero is in love with at the outset, only he somehow steps into a transmogrifier and comes out the other side a hot older man with facial hair. As in, it would now be weird for us to hold hands.
Whew, because for a second there, I was getting nervous about this drama. So all three actors are reportedly considering the roles and no one’s signed on yet. Suzy’s still very green (hence my cold sweat about her carrying a whole rom-com) but she’s got a very likable quality despite her inexperience. The thing that won me over in Dream High was when she was able to make fun of herself as an emotionless bot. That bodes well for a comedy like this. I don’t know if she’ll ever be super emotive, but hopefully she’ll grow with every role.
I still think it’s going to look hilariously off, her and Gong Yoo in romantic scenes, but I suppose that’s the whole idea. We’re technically supposed to see that vast age difference onscreen, otherwise the teenager-in-the-body-of-an-ajusshi concept gets watered down. Not that anyone needs help getting swoony over Gong Yoo. Gah, my excitement for the age-swap hijinks are OUT OF CONTROL.
Big follows Love Rain on KBS and premieres in June.

Maybe I have become too liberal but I thought 12-year difference is no big deal, whether it's the man or the woman who is older. Tom Hanks 'Big' has a much bigger age difference, 12-year old becoming someone in the 30's and relating to a 30-something woman - that would make it 20 or so years difference.
Is it because they want to use Gong Yoo in both the 18-year old and 30-something characters?

I forgot to say:
O M G! Gong Yu is going to be on our screens for two hours a week for like 8 weeks!
Gong Yu! The beautiful one! The one with the EYEs and broad shoulders and omg, nice pants!
I cannot wait, I so completely don't care who is playing opposite him. He will have chemistry with any female and male. Gong Yu is going to be on our screens this summer.
Just like Coffee Prince summer. Remember that?
OMG!

Okay I am pretty creeped out though. As much as I love Gong Yoo and Suzy, the age gap is extremely wide. He's double her age. Haha. I can't imagine the lovey dovey scenes. I hope it won't be like watching a father and daughter being lovey dovey. Getting sick just thinking about it.

how old are you? 10?
Gong Yoo is 15 years older than Suzy. Yes, it's possible for him to be her father, but cmon. It's not like the age gape was of 25-30 years. Look around you. ZetaJones/Douglas, 25 years older than her... he's even older than her father and they're doing great.
Grow up for God's sake.

The story line part about trapping in a 30 men body sound a lot like a Thai movie about a father and his daughter body got witch.

I actually do know what it is, despite being Suzy's age.
Also, I heard that Suzy's acting got great reviews in her recent project, so I'm guessing she's made a lot of progress. :) I'm so excited for this drama. (Gong Yoo * D *)

Suzy wouldn't be a bad choice, she's cute and has a lot of potential..

Dude. Not cool. As soon as I read, "Suzy? With Gong Yoo?" I couldn't scan through the article fast enough. From what I gathered, she isn't going to be the main female lead, right? ..right? Don't get me wrong, she's great and I loved her in Dream High, it's just.. it's Gong Yoo. Gong-freakin'-YOO. She's going up, but she's not there yet. How's it gonna play out? I guess I'll have to wait and see.
But on a happy note, yay Gong Yoo! :{D

I have grown to seriously love anything the Hong sisters touch. Will watch for this. Question though, wasn’t “Big” loosely/copied/a remake of the short story/book/movie “Flowers for Algernon”?

Flowers for Algernon was a much heavier tone and moral about tampering with nature. It was heartbreaking.
Big did preach you can't always get what you want, but it was sweet and fun.

Oh my, how on earth did I forget that Gong Yoo and Lee Min Jung are (hopefully) doing a drama together?! : D And I have no complaints about the addition of Suzy. I think she's super cute and she's 18 right? That's the legal age in MY country (that sounded perverted but I just mean for the sake of GY not looking like too much of a creeper with her :) )

im so freaking excited!!! GONG YOO in a ROMCOM!!! whether it is Suzy or not, I just hope the story will be well written.
I dont get why some people are bothered by idols taking acting roles. HELLO! not all ACTORS can give great performances as well and their primary profession is supposed to be acting. So, I am always open to the idea of SINGERS acting. At least when they fail, they have a reason for it but when ACTORS fail to give an impressive performance, its MIGHTY DISAPPOINTING.
Look at TOP in In the Line of Fire. AMAZING!
I will be waiting FOR YOO!!!

on ep 7.. So frustrating how Han Tae Yang and Jin Shim works together, flirt, and do stuff together.. AND STILL manages to not even ask for each others names. way too dumb and Way too many cons, bout to call it quits.
first 2 episodes was the only thing worth it for me.
