Lee Yoon-ji gets in touch with her inner princess
by girlfriday
Aw, I love Lee Yoon-ji. And she looks beautiful here in a shoot for Esquire in frothy, girly dresses that I want for self. She’s long overdue for her entrance in the new MBC drama The King 2 Hearts, where she plays a princess who calls Seung-gi “oppa.”
Yeah, you read that right. She’s playing Jae-ha’s younger sister Lee Jae-shin. The age-casting on this drama is so wonky it’s comical, but at least the gap isn’t as large between Lee Seung-gi and Lee Yoon-ji, even if she’s technically the noona. When Lee Sung-min showed up to play the hyung, I honestly had to pause and look it up to be sure. He’s a great actor (and awesome for the dark comedy tone) but he looks like Seung-gi’s dad, with the nearly twenty-year age gap. At least his character’s a father figure?
Anyway, Lee Yoon-ji plays the youngest sibling, Jae-shin, who is in current drama time studying abroad in England. She enjoys a carefree life, much like Jae-ha’s used to be, pre-army and goin’-north-of-the-DMZ days. (Shouldn’t that be a song on the OST: “DMZ Dayz”?) She returns to Korea for her oppa’s engagement, bringing her back into the thick of the family drama. Her character is apparently harboring some traumatic memories, described as fragments that bring her panic, but also hold the key to the future of the country. Hm. Can’t wait till she makes her grand entrance, fragments or no, ’cause she knows how to bring the funny.
The King airs Wednesdays-Thursdays on MBC, and her spread in Esquire will be out in April.

Aw, someone please just give her the lead in a drama one day.
On another note: "Lee Yoon-ji plays the youngest sibling, Jae-shin, who is in current drama time studying abroad in England." Please, no more broken english. Or an American accent.

yeah, it's a pet peeve of mine when the character is supposed to be good at english but ends up with broken english with a strange accent. actually, i think it's quite comical(i know the actors are trying- i hold no hostility). But i think that if your character is supposed to be good at something, you should at least train a little bit to get better at it. For example, some actors go through the idol training if they have a character that has to have that experience.

Yep this sounds a bit like her princess character in Goong - but an older and wiser one to eventually become the Queen.

She's purty ;-)
I never paid much attention to K2H so I was honestly surprised that the engagement is coming. Got all caught up in the WOC :-)
As long as her hero woos her with more serenade- I am very happy to be shipping them.

it think it's World Officer Championship... the drama is really good!.. i know cos i watched the first two episodes and there isn't anything bad that i can say bout it... (i know i'm both leads' fan but really, plot-wise, character-wise and chemistry-wise TK2H is flawless)... even in the dead of the night, i cant even doze off though i've only got minimal sleep the night before... oh well, i must admit for a while i slipped into a momentary wink but that was when the really freaky villain is doing his dramatic moments (when dad is about to be killed - spoiler?! i dont think so)... overall, i must say the everyone did a good job in this drama.. i so looking forward to this week!

Hi Crizzyville and thank you! You are right, WOC means World Officer Championship. I had seen episode 1 of this drama but I forgot what WOC stood for. I will wait for a while before I watch the rest of the show. You seem to be really enjoying the show, given your high praise of it. It's nice to see that you have found a show you are passionate about. I do hope that you will get some sleep however, you don't want to be without sleep (or minimal sleep) for too long.
Have fun continuing to enjoy the show.

Anything TK2H related brighten my day now :D
'The age-casting on this drama is so wonky it’s comical'
And its because all the more age-appropriate older actors rejected the Jaeha role. I guess most of the main characters have been decided before they cast Seunggi.
Anyway, when I read the character descriptions before this drama started airing, this was one thing that surprise me that I had to check to confirm that I didnt read it wrong; that Yoon Ji will become Seunggi's younger sister.
Hajiwon looks younger and has sizzling chemistry with Seunggi that I never thought about their age difference when watching the drama. Hopefully, Yoonji and Seunggi can also make it believable on screen.
Cant wait for Ep3!

Awww... I loved her in DH. :D
And who else is thrilled that she isn't playing a shrill, whiny, 3rd party princess?
I like the dongsaeng role for her. Hope she gets to be like the young Minhwa: fangirly and fun!

My god how I love this actress! She is, without question, (IMO ;) ) the greatest female talent yet to star in her own weekly series and, yes, is long overdue in making her appearence in this current series that I'm investing my time in mainly to see her. As for the actual age thing, she is always so completely bubbly and convincing that it is easy to be convinced that she is much younger (or older as the case may be) than she is in real life. I can do without the henna rinse that seems to be spilling itself onto so many females lately, but, at least we don't have to see her in that short haired look that also needs to dry up and go away already. Just allow these beautiful people to be who they are fer crissakes! Lee Yoon Ji and her mega-watt smile are welcome to visit me on my computere screen at any time. I can't wait to see her once again... :)

Lub her.....she can make a fine princess as witnessed in Goong....even though she was rather under utilized there....also it would be funny if jae ha abdicates the throne for her towards the end

I wonder if Jae Ha will be a protective oppa for her against players like him, or a couldn't care less one. Anticipating her entrance and love line with Shi Kyung.

It still kind of blows my mind to think that she and "trot idol" Park Hyun Bin are cousins lol. They both have that cute smile though.
I cant wait to see how she's going to act her role. I always love characters that act happy-go-lucky but are hiding something.

I've only seen her in Dream High and Heading to the Ground. The characters she played didn't really spark my interest. Wishing her luck in King 2 Hearts

Lee! Yoon! Ji! I love her! Her smile is so contagious, you just feel yourself smiling with her.
I find it interesting (though probably not that out-of-the-ordinary) that her oppa's name is Lee Jae-ha, which was also the name of her husband, Kim Dong Wook's character, in the family drama Dandelion Family (I watched 50 eps because of her). I wonder if there are different ways to express Lee Jae-ha in Hanja.

If you can afford a "little" more time to spend with her, there are 167 episodes of 2007's 'Pure in Heart' (aka 'Hearts of 19' or 'Pure 19') where she is at her very best. Not to mention about 200 plus epidodes of 'Nonstop 4'.... :)
