Hong Soo-hyun to play Ryu Shi-won’s tv wife?
by girlfriday
Ryu Shi-won is returning to dramaland? Man, I’m pretty sure this guy was in ALL the dramas I watched in the 90s. He was kind of the originator of the babyface leading man, because before him, leading men were always the super gruff, chiseled types, but Ryu Shi-won was just the boy next door. He’s kind of the predecessor to today’s Seung-gi.
He’ll be starring in a cable drama on Channel A called Goodbye Wifey (I’m using a cutesy word for wife ’cause the Korean title uses a shortened slang form of the word.) where he plays a terrible, immature husband who has to be tamed by his much smarter wife. And it looks like said wife will be played by Hong Soo-hyun (History of a Salaryman), who’s reportedly first in line to take the role.
In just three projects — Lie to Me, The Princess’s Man, Salaryman — Hong Soo-hyun has leapt out of boring stock roles and into some serious scene-stealing limelight. I’m excited to see her take the lead in a romantic comedy, because she’s got great comic timing, and doesn’t seem afraid to make fun of herself.
Directing is PD Kim Pyong-joong (of 2006’s Great Expectations starring Kim Jae-won) and writing is Kim Do-hyun. The rom-com drama is about a couple married five years, who are complete opposites. One day their first loves re-enter the picture, making them question the marriage, throwing everything into disarray. Based on the title and the descriptions, it looks like Hubby’s quick to say goodbye to Wife, except he finds out that perhaps life without her isn’t as awesome as he thought it’d be.
Goodbye Wifey premieres May 7 on Channel A.

Her leap tO lead role seems fast but well deserved for sure! After Moon Chae Won, she's another actress I like who's getting her chance to shine.. I guess LTM did her good.

I also disagree on her fast rising. I've seen her in lots of beat roles. I tihnk her first big role is in Temptation of an Angel and not in Lie to Me. But unfortunately, the ratings was not that high.
Anyway, i'm happy for her =)

yes, she had done her time, and I think she deserve the bigger roles that she is enjoying now. She is a very engaging actress.

i'm really loving Hong Soo-hyun after Princess's Man and Salaryman, she's a good actress and fun to watch in comedy scenes, so i can't wait to see her being a female lead in this drama for once.

I found her second lead character in Sangdoo really memorable. The character, along with Gong Hyo Jin's second lead in Ruler of Your Own World and Wang Ji Hye's in Personal Taste, remain among the most memorable second leads for me. So good to hate them.
Hong Soo Hyun's turn in Princess's Man just made me so happy for her! Go, chica!

YAY!!! She was the only actress that vowed me last year with TPM....I'm so glad that she's finally getting her lead role even if the drama itself or RSW for that matter doesn't excite me in the least (at least not right now)

He must be happy to be getting such a hot wifey on screen. She was on Kim Hyun Joong's Lucky Guy MV too, all smoldering.

That was HER! Why did I not realize that! I thought the first time I saw her was in HOTSM.
Yay! She's got a lead role! I'll see how this rom-com turns out! Hopefully it's good if these two are leads (though this has been proven false in the past, i.e. Lie to me)!

i liked her role in temptation of an angel, she's not the villain type there but a rather sweet sister to the lead character but i also like RSW in all the dramas i've seen of him! happy to see him again, i didn't quite enjoy the Style drama he was in a few yrs ago but this one sounds promising!

Not afraid to say but i am a fan of Ryu. Despite of his bad acting. He's still cute to look at. I remember loving him and Kim Hee Sun back in the days. He still looks pretty good.

Same here, I loved her in Sang Doo and always wondered why she never got any lead roles. Also really liked her in LTM, TPM, and Salaryman.

It's about time that she got a lead role. She's been in the industry for more than ten years. I'm so happy for her! I love her since Sang Doo too. And in the recently finished airing Salary Man she has proven to be a really top notch actress with great comic timing. I hope this is going to prove the drama, movie makers that she's the lead type and not anymore the wishy washy second lead. I'm glad that she got the chance to star in TPM which got her talent recognized again. I haven't watched it since I read that her ending is sad... Hong Soo Hyun you go girl!

Actually, I think this drama sounds more along the lines of Choi Ji-woo's 'Can't Lose' divorce drama.

FINALLY, Hong Soo Hyun gets a proper female lead role. Everybody was absolutely terrific in Princess Man, but her performance recalled Nicole Kidman.
I hope she takes this role opposite Ryu Shi Won . . . WITH EDGE!! (sorry Style reference there . . . )

Whooo Whooo! I really like her from The Princess's Man drama & she's doing so wonderful job! Ohh, I still haven't watch her drama "The Salaryman" yet but I will able to watch when I will have time, of course. ^__^ Wow, I didn't know that she acted in Lie To Me drama too, haha. That's reaaally AWESOME for Hong Soo Hyun to still working as a actress without having a break time. I hope that she will be all right (without being exhausted) & DO her BESSSTT in her drama, hmm! :D

Am I the only one who wanted to take her pretty head and bash it against the wall in Let's go to school Sang Doo.
Her single lie turned his entire life into the mess that it became
She was also in Temptation of an Angel (which I didnt watch), I think she played a nurse or something. She isnt one of my favorite actress ( i think she achieved her looks with one too many visits to the plastic surgeon) because of her range and for some reason, her looks dont grow on me
Maybe if she didnt scar me by what her character did in Sang Doo, I might have thought differently
Good luck to her anyway!
