Daniel Choi joins the cast of Ghost
by girlfriday
Well so far the secondary cast is doing all the heavy lifting in getting my interest up for this drama. Daniel Choi (The Musical, Baby-Faced Beauty) has now joined the cast of upcoming cyber investigation drama Ghost, due out this May. It stars So Ji-sub and Lee Yeon-hee, who have already been paired together in a short drama special years ago, and now with the addition of Choi, there’s another reunion afoot: this will be his third project with co-star Eom Ki-joon, since 2008’s The World They Live In and 2009’s Good Job, Good Job.
Daniel Choi and Eom Ki-joon are pretty much of the same type (I could picture them running into each other in auditions for the same roles) so it’s interesting that they’ve worked together so many times. I suppose a cyber crimes division can never have too many bespectacled geeky types. Line ’em up! I’ll watch for the army of adorable nerds.
He’ll be playing So Ji-sub’s friend, which already confuses me, since I thought So Ji-sub was playing the gruff genius anti-social guy who HAS NO FRIENDS. It’s implied in the ‘anti-social.’ I… don’t get it? It’d be cute if it were a goofy one-sided friendship, like if Daniel Choi thought they were besties and So Ji-sub couldn’t even remember his name. Based on what I’ve seen of Sign though, I don’t think they’re going to veer much away from the dramatic procedural in tone. So… cyber cops investigating cyber crimes — that’s the name of the game.
Shooting begins in April, and Ghost premieres late May following Rooftop Prince on SBS.

I can't believe that these two actors are not getting the main roles when both Eom Ki Joon and Daniel Choi are both such good actors. I think they are going to be wasted in this drama because their roles will be too small and that's such a shame because they are so much more accomplished in their skills than the main leads.

Didn't Daniel got in The musical a main role?

He did, but that was poorly written and his co-star, who shall remain nameless cuz I'll get lynched, had zero chemistry with him. I was very disappointed, as I'm a big Daniel Choi fan. I'd rather see him in a good secondary role than the lead in a stupid show.

You got a point: Better an interesting secondary character than a first role in a train wreck. He should be able to steal a few scenes.

Agree with you. I consider both as A-list actors, and i wonder how they could end as sidekicks. I hope DC has not been downgraded "thanks to" The Musical, because i think he did the best he could do with what he was given.

I don't think so because his other main roles have been really successful so I doubt that one bad role would have affected him too much plus anyone can see that The Musical was a failure because of the writing, the nonsensical story towards the end and without trying to cause a war here but Goo Hye Sun "acting".
I'm not too sure why he agreed to this role since the character description doesn't interest me at all and it doesn't sound very challenging at all which confuses me as he is very capable in his acting to tackle difficult roles.
But I think I'm gonna wait until they release more information on his role and the drama before dismissing this drama entirely.

Without meaning to offend DC (and his fans) who is so adorable in Baby Face Beauty and become more famous in the recent years I think in term of who is actually in the A-list actor category (I still don't know whether such list is actually exist so we could have a look and see who writes it or how long one name stays in it) So Ji Sub might be a bigger name.
Just like THT will always be a bigger name than any other recent idol actors (except may be for Sukkie/Jang Gun Suk)

Excuse me, but who's THT ? I've been wrecking my brain but couldn't come up with a name ? I'm so curious now. Thank you !
Daniel Choi was the reason I stayed with Baby-faced Beauty. :)

Oops! My brain never work properly when I'm thinking of THT. I always assume that he is a very big star. So everybody knows him. THT (The Hand Towel) or should I say Mr. Hand Towel is none other than Song Seung Hun. He's the male lead in My Princess and some other old KDramas (which require nothing much of him except for looking gorgeous and quiet).
He's newest drama would be the spin of Jin (Japanese drama)

hahaha, my hunch was correct. I just got confused with the THT, i know him as Hand-Towel. That's the english translation of his name, right? thanks!

Maybe he took a secondary role in this drama, because as a So Ji Sub vehicle it will likely to get a lot of viewers, and it ups his visibility?

I think Daniel was also the main lead in baby-faced beauty where he did a splendid job!!! Hey, if Lee Jang Woo would ever drop "I do I do" (I know he wouldn't), Daniel would be perfect for the role! He is just brilliant...As for EKJ, what can I say??? He is just one TALENTED actor...I'm still waiting for his MAIN lead role and I swear I'll drop all other dramas just to watch him in action!!

I love Daniel Choi, but I do, I do is hand tailored for Lee Jang Woo's acting and looks (sexy, classy, proactive and a bit emotionally... threatening). Daniel Choi is too much of a cute (tall) clumsy puppy. He is a king of comedy.

And another cutie pie for the parade! Nerds of every country, unite!
Friend of SJS's asocial character? is it an unrequited friendship? Like Noodles sticking/stalkering the main character in Padam.
Or maybe they are both asocial, and daniel Choi's character is the more talkative of the two... Like, he is the one to open the door for pizza delivery, or the one who calls the hotline when the internet connection is cut (HORROR!).

I don't think it's hate, i think it's just frustration that he gets typecasted/ picks the same roles all the time? I'm new to korean film and tv, and have only seen him in the film 'Always' - can't really form an opinion.

Then why everyone loves Ha Ji Won and her roles? Because she also always chooses to play the badass.
And LSG the brat one. But no one complains....

She does play the badass a lot, but she approaches each of those roles differently even if just a little bit from what I've seen and changes it up every now and then. For me she has something that makes me want to watch her, she's cool, you know? I think even if she plays a whiny character, she's still tends to be badass in a way.
And people have pointed out LSG tends to play the brat but he has like 3 dramas as of now? So it's not a big deal yet, lol. He also has something that makes you want to watch him though (for me at least).
So Ji Sub doesn't draw me in like that though. Maybe this drama will be different and he will come off as cool rather than Mr.Broody. But I'm not holding my breath. I think he did really well in Always where he was kind of an awkward/loner type with a soft-spot for Han Hyo-Joo. I think he wouldn't suffer from branching out more with his characters, though (:

Because SJS has been "broody" in his last 4 or 5 dramas, whereas LSG has only acted as a lead in 3 dramas so far... and he's not really a brat in MGIAG.
HJW has a varied portfolio with a lot of interesting roles... Hwangjini and Damo are lovely shows which you should watch....Not badass at all.

I watched damo, she was badass there ^^ and also frustrating >< but I liked Damo a lot !
LSG was a brat in MGIAG I couldn't stand him being a jerk to Miho :(
I understand now. I wonder if SJS played the badass many times if people wouldn't mind he being typecasted.
I mean, I watched I'm sorry I love you and then Cain and abel and I don't think the roles are alike.
In misa he was depressing while in Cain and abel he was vengeful and sometimes scary, I liked :)
But it's true he just get sad/melo roles and dies in most of them....

Because on her, badass is AWESOME. And mixed with vulnerability.
I don't hate SJS. I think he's quite attractive sometimes, and I liked him in Rough Cut and Always. I find his acting in melodramas too...um...subtle for me to pick up on.

well i agree that lee seung gi always takes the "brat" roles but as the story goes on he always undergoes some change....
for example in my inheritance and my gf is a gumiho... he ends up you know not brat anymore LOL =)) maybe in king 2 hearts he'll jave a change of heart too... :)
and also there's just this quality about him that makes you want to watch him... even if he had taken those brat roles repeatedly... different sides of him are being shown...
he's good at comedy, drama etc etc he looks really believable... whether he's supposed to act "sad" heartbroken" etc and TAKE NOTE.... FUNNY TOO...
well tagline is... HE'S REALLY SUPER ENJOYABLE TO WATCH... =))))

Personally, I steer clear of his projects because the always seem to end in a nonsensical death after episodes of depression....not my thing. So, no anti-feelings towards him PERSONALLY, but a little bit of exasperation that his dramas seem to be such a ....one-note....collection.

I love Daniel Choi. This picture alone is enough to get me to give this drama a chance. I was relieved not to be interested in it at first. If I watch any more k-dramas, I will get further behind in my work. But then they give me Dr. Poopypants/best ex-love ever and now Daniel Choi who made me love, love, love him in Baby-faced beauty. Adorkable times two.

So it will be airing in May for Wed & Thurs slot.
What are the other drama in May?
If I'm not mistaken, KBS - Gaksital (Bridal Mask) with Joo Won also for Wed & Thurs slot.
I hope that Gong Yoo, Lee Min Jung and maybe Suzy will sign for KBS - Big for Mon & Tues slot. But this drama will be airing somewhere in July.

Aaaaaaaw. Daniel Choi is adorkable! Even on variety shows he's a dork. I still remember his Happy Together episode when he talked about why his parents named him Daniel. Too cute. X)
Eh. We'll see about this drama. I'm all about Joo Sang-wook right now (hey, he was such a goof on Running Man I couldn't help but check out his dramas) and that means catching up with Feast of the Gods and TEN. This is just one more drama to add to my ever growing "Must Check Out" List. Sigh.
