Yeon Jung-hoon smolders for Can Love Become Money
by javabeans
Hot damn, Yeon Jung-hoon is looking sharp for his new drama, Can Love Become Money, which was formerly titled For the Emperor. The tux, the slicked-back hair, the cool attitude — he’s practically channeling James Bond.
Yeon plays a young CEO who considers money the most important thing in the world, who gets embroiled in a wild conspiracy. His personality as a arrogant rude bastard will allow Yeon to “ruin” his image a bit; the role promises to be light and funny, and Yeon explains picking the project because he wanted to change up his image, which has mostly been serious. Woot woot. I’m not sure I could be paid to care if this were a weighty drama (say, like Midas), but if it’s working in a comedic angle, I am there.
Aside from the smokin’ Yeon Jung-hoon, I’m also looking forward to seeing the two ladies, once I realized that we’d be getting Eom Ji-won and Wang Bit-na back together after playing makgulli-drinking best friends in The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry. Their roles may be pretty different here since it looks like they’re rivals (with Eom Ji-won as the main lead), but this IS being described as a “comic melo” so I’m anticipating a nice dose of humor. Especially since Yeon is so fantastic being cheeky. Really, he should’ve turned on that saucy charm earlier in his career.
The new title is a bit more literal with the premise — rich dude, romance — than the earlier working one, For the Emperor, which described the hero in a figurative sense. He’s a man with a Midas touch and therefore an “emperor complex,” rather than being literal royalty. But given the number of dramas in sageukland these days, it’s probably wise to steer clear of a potentially confusing title, even if you have to swap it for something a lot more on-the-nose.
Can Love Become Money premieres on cable channel MBN beginning March 3.

By coincidence, that haircut is similar to one Sean Connery sported in his earliest films . . . though he was going bald and had to wear a toupee as James Bond.

Lol. Yeon Jung Hoon really seems so adorable and devoted though, from what I see in variety shows.
Quite the power couple, aren't they? Han Ga In raking in almost 40% ratings with her new drama (and her recent upturn in acting intensity), Yeon Jung Hoon's vampire hit and now this.

From the description of the story and the chosen tone, i have a Salaryman feeling. Which is good.
On the second pic, i had hard time recognizing vampy.
But then he flashes his grinning smile, and i'm ohh, how i missed that goofy ironic expression.
He looks chinese / taiwanese, a la " In the mood for love "

I had to laugh at this. "I am hot! And other news" I'm sorry. Is there other news?!?!?! One of those sly smiles, and I have forgotten all about the economic crisis.

I really like all three main leads, so I might watch this.
I confess I'm in a kdrama lull, guys. All I do in kdrama land is wait around for Ojakgyo Brothers to get subbed, but I I've seen too many spoilers, so there's no rush. I'm all sageuk-ed out until a later date, and I don't feel like a teen drama.
I just want something different. Should I watch History of a Salaryman? Will it surprise me?

I would definitely reccomend it. Its absolutely hilarious despite the occasionally dark matter
For the past few dramas I've watched, I always end up not finishing it because I've already read the recaps here ( flower boy ramyun shop, for example) but I'm equally eager to watch each episode of salaryman despite knowing what will happen

I'll have to check out History of a Salaryman then. If you read the recaps and still want to watch it, it must be worth the time. Thanks!

Now that you say it, i effectively never saw someone asking for sadness, angst and despair on DB.
Truth is DB heads seem to prefer ( i say prefer because it's not exclusive if we want to be honest : Recaps of sageuks, A thousand days promise... ) light approach and comedic tone on stories, and so do their readers. I don't see what's the problem here.
Don't bother yourself making the phone call, because from what i can see on the " currently
airing " section from various Drama websites, we are largely provided with " fun and laugh " by the channels, thank you. You should better ask them for what you crave. We represent the majority, but if a community ( and an audience group ) as well structured and represented as the DB one surfaces to defend your point of view, you will gain attention from the broadcasting companies : Good luck in finding what you want, sincerely.

Am I the only one thinking this might be what Mickey will look like when he gets older? I can totally picture it.
At first I wasn't sure I would be interested in this but the comedy bent has captured my attention.

:O Now that you mention it, he and Micky really do look alike! I've never noticed it before, haha.
*sigh* So many dramas to watch and so little time. I've still been planning to watch History of a Salaryman, Operation Proposal, DH 2, and Twelve Men In a Year. Looks like this is getting added to that list.

With the exception of the drama Yellow Heinkerchief, the drama that they met on, they haven't starred in another one together. I would love to see them in another project together; however the chance is highly unlikely. They barely appear to events together, and I think it was only just recently that they filmed a couple cf together. However, it seems like being low key is working for their marriage, so maybe it's better this way? ;)

If you watch the BTS for JJW and VP, and I did spend a coupla days doing so after VP's short 12 episodes ended, he seems to be the one having the most fun on the set.
Smiling, making jokes, trying to catch the other actors' off guard in a scene, he IS fun.
I'm hoping there are some sly nods to VP, maybe have him really enjoy his red wine?

I agree : He seems to have a nice personality, funny but stylish. Teasing but not heavy. It must be nice to work with that sort of people.
Problem is, now i'm imagining a clown prosecutor. Not sexy at all, and scary. Take back the red nose and give me back my guyliner.

Thank you Msjoe42 for providing streaming links :)
What did you guys think about the first two episodes? I only had a chance to watch the first one, and I thought it was a fairly okay introduction. Plotwise, it seems simple and straightforward. Fortunately, there is no weak acting. If anything the writing is a little bland. I hope it starts to pick up soon, or the actors' talents will be wasted. I'm just eager to see Yoon Jung Hoon and Uhm Ji Won meet and Hwangbo's appearance, which will occur in the second episode.
