MBC rom-com courts Kim Sun-ah as its leading lady
by javabeans
I Do, I Do is the name of a new drama series heading to MBC, and the front-runner to play the lead is reportedly Kim Sun-ah. As so often is the case, there have not been any final decisions made yet, though her reps have confirmed that she’s looking at the drama, among others.
On their own, each of the elements of the plot sounds pretty old hat — single careerwoman in her thirties, younger man, workplace romance — but when you put them all together for this particular premise, you’ve got my interest. Kim Sun-ah plays a “gold miss” (as in, single and proud of it, a defiant twist on the “old miss” designation) who’s at the height of her career as the top shoe designer in her company. She has a one-night “mistake” with a rookie employee and gets knocked up. Given that the title is “I Do,” I presume a slightly awkward wedding ensues, quite probably of the shotgun variety. And somewhere in the midst of all of this, the two find love.
It sounds similar to the setup of 2008’s low-key romance I Love You (starring Ahn Jae-wook and Seo Ji-hye, who marry after a one-night stand gets her pregnant), except with the age gap reversed between the leads. Which can be a significant difference, considering that she’s top dog and he’s a brand-new hire. The description doesn’t explicitly indicate that the love interest is younger, but it seems the likely setup; in fact I hope he ends up being a lot younger, because I see room for a lot of narrative potential in that. Reports hint at a “top star” considering the role.
Kim’s last drama, Scent of a Woman, frequently dipped into weepy melodrama territory — inevitable, since she was playing a terminally ill cancer patient — but Kim’s shown she’s got solid comic chops in previous roles. It’ll be nice seeing her back in the comedy game (I love her being funny and sly, as long as she steers clear of the cutesy-wootsy baby-talking) after doing a string of more dramatic fare.
I Do I Do won a prize in 2010 for the New Story Creation Project held by the Korea Creative Content Agency, which develops content and ideas for various fields, including broadcasting. I know little about that organization or its projects, but I suppose the fact that the story won an award in something gives it a little boost of confidence.
The show is currently in development at Kim Jong-hak Productions, and looks to air in May.

A new drama starring Kim Suna may be in the offing and so many are focused on whomever the lucky guy whose career will receive a major boost is getting most of the ink. This is a Kim Suna project. Any other inclusions are pretty much window dressing and are dwarfed in comparison... ;)

Yeah! More Kim Suh Ah! Love her.
I would love to see her in a drama with Gong Yoo. I know she did a movie with him. But they would be waaaay hot together in a drama.
Ok, so in my fantasy world for this drama her leading actors are Yoo Ah In, Lee Ki Woo, or Song Joong Ki and of course Lee Min ho.
*sigh*

yess... vote 4 Lee Ki Woo. I like his role in FBRS but plz no for Lee Hong Ki. he's too cute for me to be KSA's partner and maybe yes if he played as KSA's brother (or someone else brother). I love if Yoon Kye Sang played as lead actor as well (fell in love with him since 19 years old sis in law). but, plz.... plz... don't let any idols played as KSA's partner. they'll ruin my mood to watch this drama.

Kim Dong-wuk has my vote. He was born in 1983, so he's probably the right age, although he's filming "The Emperor's Concubine" and may not be available.
Oh Man-suk would be great, but he's not the right age.
Kim Young Kwang might be a good choice, he's 25 and is doing a great job in "Bachelor Vegetable Store".
Oh, we can wish and speculate but we'll just have to wait and see who they pick.

All I hope is that they won't give her a bad haircut. That old ahjumma from the 70's hair they put her through on "Scent of a Woman" was the ugliest thing ever. And our unnie Sun Ah is nothing but stunning beauty!!!
And whoever said Yoon Kye Sang...I can definitely see it! He's a great actor and he can pull off the mid 20's years old guy without looking either too young or too old effortlessly! And he's tall...

Hmmm....a rookie employee huh? Why can't it be a guy who is much older and had to knock a few years off his age to get into the company? For once, can they let the guy lie about his age? Would love the male lead to be someone on par with Sunny on ALL fronts. CSW is really her most compatible co-star to date. All I'm asking for is Jung Woo Sung. I don't want to see a noona-dongsaeng role consecutively.

Lmao I saw the first comments saying Jung Yong Hwa and then Lee Min Ho and then Kim Bum haha it's like every popular young actor is getting tossed around, I may as well throw Kim Joong Hyun into the mix while we're at it :P
Anyways I'm all in for this drama, Kim Sun Ah rocks when she acts and has amazing chemistry with all her co stars. I would much rather it not be a wooden actor though, seriously if your acting with Kim Sun Ah then you gotta be on par with her otherwise you will get COMPLETELY overshadowed.

Then I would prefer to see KSA with Lee Min Ho. Jung Il Woo also a good choice cause he can really act especially he can cry beautifully. I think both stand better chance in term of looks and heights. Chemistry wise will have to work it out while they are really on the scene. I am sure KSA will lead and bring them well and of course these guys also a great actors too....nothing to be worried about...

KSA rocks in rom-com BUT I'm not so keen for her to accept another type of noona romance type of drama. She already did that in MNIKSS and that's one tough act to follow.
Plus, I'm also fed up with noona romance types of dramas. What would be a good twist to this story would be if the rookie employee happens to be just in the same age range as KSA. I mean, who says a rookie employee has to be young always? A rookie employee could have been someone whose in his mid to late 30's who did a career change, right? Now, that would have been more interesting. And if it happens to go in that direction, I'd love her to be with Song Il Gook (Fermentation Family, Art of Seduction).
Though, if they're really keen on noona romance, I'd say Song Jong Ki. It's time he got a lead role in a drama.

It really is great news :D , I'm happy to see a new drama of this great actress, I hope the male lead is handsome and talented person that is most important to be near her, I like to see it with jo in sung or won bin, but if the role requires someone much younger because I tend towards yoo ah in, lee min ho, song yoon shi hong ki and yoon q I would be fine because its appearance is not a "child" in addition to their performances are not all bad, contrary to defend themselves as actors. Although when I saw the news that a young person will be immediately thought Jung il woo pity that this would be perfect in another project in the end I prefer yoon yoon shi think is best suited for the role, well who better than kim sun ah for nona-doaseng relationship, the acts well and she is talented and beautiful at the same time, have good chemistry. wait and see who decides to production and even now I look forward to seeing this drama :) ...
